  1. Personally I wouldnt be sorry to see him go as his work rate at times is laughable - against Peterborough he showed what a good player he could be but that was against a 10 man Championship side, in the Premier League he has shown precious little in recent years to justsify his wages IMO! After failing to secure his move to Chelsea he hasnt been the same player which is a shame...I would let him go but only if and when we had someone in to replce him. Benni is undoubtably talented but never achieved his full potential due to a lack of application and willingness to appreciate that hard work AND talent is what makes for a decent player.
  2. Im going for Rovers to win 2-0 with Bellamy grabbing one of them. After the nightmare of the last home game and then winning away to ManUre I think the players will be determined to put on a good show for the fans...We look more solid at the back and with certain players finding form / full fitness we actually look like posing a threat up front... I would go for Bentley on the right with Reid in the midle and Emerton in the car park selling programmes...Kuqi up front with Bellamy.
  3. Truefox, that is a sentance that has been written on this board countless times this season !! I think that both games against Bumley and Leicester need to be taken seriously as Rovers are great at cocking things up. It is an easy route on paper but in practice we know it will be harder...This is a nice distraction from the league seeing the games we have coming up though.
  4. My prediction: Bumley 0 - Rovers 2 Goals to be scored by Dickov and a towering header from the captain Andy Todd (their reaction would be brillaint !). I would also be amazed if this game finished with 11 on each side at the end !
  5. I wasnt going to put anything about this but then read the article again and want it public that I too think him a complete gobsh*te and will be hoping for a Celtic win this weekend !
  6. This comes as no surprise and as Ive said before in another thread the man was never fit to captain the club based on his effort on the pitch or attitude. We get £3.5 for him and that will pay for Savage and I know who I would rather see in the blue and white ! Send the 'wee ned' back to 'big club' Rangers where he can look like a 'decent player' in a pub league.
  7. It does appear as though this is the work of his agent and it is about time the spineless FA crack down on these characters... That said, if Fergusson wants to go then let him. I havent been convinced by him yet and am certain that we could buy someone who is just as effective with the money (use 500k to up the savage bid and leave £4m or so for a striker ??). With the players we have been linked with and the ones he has brought in so far Hughes seems to like players who will stand up and be counted and are physically strong and 'up for it' (wonder why he likes these players...?) and I dont think that Fergie has shown any of these qualities with enough consistency.
  8. Im not saying we cant pass and indeed, we do so brilliantly at times, but we should remember that was against an average Fulham and the reason we were able to pass is because people were running all over chasing the ball and closing down. What I said was that we arent the best passing team in the league (though we arent the worst) and as such improving the fitness and getting the players to work at 110% has seen us perform better. Im certainly not putting down the performance on Saturday.
  9. No - no Drummer !! At least we dont have the full brass band that Sheff Wed used to have !
  10. Whilst we may not put Brazil to shame with out attractive and skillful football it is effective and full of effort. This is the sort of thing that will get us out of trouble and leave us safe at the end of the season and certain players will play better in this set up. Dickov, Reid, Neil, Nissa and even Emerton are looking better players now that they are only being asked to do the basics that their position demands but at the same time give 110% to make up for it. We havent got the most gifted or talented sqaud in the league and Hughes knows this so he has worked on the fitness of the players. What you lack in skill you make up for in effort... This has worked with teams like Everton and Bolton in the past, and if it gets us out of the brown stuff then its fine by me. I would of course like to see us playing attractive passing football but we dont have the personel and I will sacrifice one season of playing as we are now for Premiership survival.
  11. I may be wrong but I cant see the illustrious Simon Grayson mentioned anywhere here ?! Not only was he totally inept as a footballer but he also collected a fortune in wages for sitting in the reserves for years. No other team would buy him because of the ridiculous wages we put him on when we signed him (I saw somewhere it was around £30k+ please tell me this is wrong !)
  12. Amen to that ! The landlord of my local is a Hammers fan and he has a different 4 letter name for Dailly Although surely Simon Greyson is going to get a nomination for this particular award ...
  13. I honestly dont think he knew just how bad the sqaud that he inherited was before he took the job - if he did he would probably have stayed at Wales or waited for a better offer !! I hope that the board support him with money in January and that he is able to improve the sqaud (though where to start ... ?) We shouldnt be worried that he doesnt know what a relegation fight is just yet as neither do alot of managers who find themselves in there. Last year Dowie, Megson and Worthington were all winners and top of the first division tree and this (Megson aside) will be a new experience for them as well. The same can be said for Wigley at Southampton. It is man managment and coaching ability that matter not nesseccarily experience (Coleman for example) and I think that in Hughes we have someone who will prove he has both of these qaulities. That said this will be a tough season and if last weekends defending continues as well as our inability to score goals it may well be all over bar the shouting by Xmas
  14. How about : Friedel Matteo Short Amo Neil Fergusson Todd Flitcroft Gamst Ped Gally Stead At least this way we have bodies in the middle of the park to make passig difficult and the defence is that bad I dont think we can rely on just two of them to stop chelsea when they come forward. Up front we would have two lads who are young and would work hard and Todd would provide an anchor in the lightweight midfield. Just an idea...
  15. Would be a good signing for the rest of the season. Gives something different to what we have as he likes to play in the space behind the strikers, gives opposition defences something to think about as well. Would maybe more of a signing for homes games when the emphasis is on us to attack rather than away when we have to defend.
  16. Dont get me wrong I dont think there were to many people who covered themselves in glory last night and I never singled Fergusson out he was one of a few annonymous / bad players. However, I do think that he is an example of how we have wasted money on average players and then wonder a: why we get into trouble and then b: why we cant get out of it ! He is an average player IMO and in the games I have seen him in he hasnt lead by example and got stuck in - that is what I expect of a captain and thats why Im disappointed in him ! Still, I hope to be proven wrong in the games to come...
  17. As he did yesterday, I lost count of the number of times his name was mentioned and that wasnt a one off ! Massive price tag and for what ?
  18. I too thought that Amo had an ok game, nothing superb but I feel better when he is there as he is a centre half, not a 'convert' to one (Nissa). Stead was doing ok but he didnt look sharp and needs a goal. An incident on the edge of the box when he and Dickov both went down injured summed that up. Wanted 5 touches rather than just hitting it - things arent going for him at the moment but they will do as he is a very good player. Emerton put in lots of work for little end product and Im not convinced he has the ability to be the creative player he wants to be. At the time we bought him alot of clubs had had a look and decided against him - why ? What did they see that the clown who managed us didnt ? Fergusson - dont get me started. At no point has he looked like a premiership player and the sooner someone else comes in for him the better. It is an insult that this man captains our side given the complete lack of effort that he puts in. My nominations for man of the match were either Grey or Dickov with the latter edging it for his workrate and never giving up. I thought it mad that we kept buying centre midfielders but last night showed how much we need them. The reason Grey was hitting long balls, and Amo too, was that the midfield werent coming and collecting it. There was work rate there last night and it wasnt a bad performance but we didnt play football and are relying on grinding a win out of teams rather than outplaying them ! Oh to have the mid 90's back again !!!
  19. Long ball is the worst type of football but at the moment I dont care ! If it means we win games and the confidence grows then fine as thats when we will start seeing some proper football by players not scared of loosing or the critisism that follows it. Give Hughes a chance before knocking him. He isnt even in post and people are already commenting on the tactics he MIGHT use !!
  20. Very profound Bucky Rover ! The fact is that there is every chance that Hughes will be a success and this is something that we have to beleive if we are to give him 100% support - something that we MUST do if we are to save an already stuttering season. Lets save the moaning and pessimism until there is a need for it (if ever) !
  21. Just appeard on BBC Sport... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ers/3655384.stm Personally I would be glad to have him, he may be inexperienced as a manager but he was a well respected player and has done a great job at Wales. We have gone for coaches in the past (Kidd, Hodgeson etc) and look where that got us so now lets try for a proper manager !
