[Archived] Womens Football

Perhaps there's a little bit of jealousy in thinking that a woman may be a better player than you? Why the hell shouldn't women play football? Should we stop them voting as well. Do women footballers scare horses? And what exactly is "monkey tennis" is it monkeys playing tennis, or playing tennis and using a monkey as the ball? I've not seen either before. -

Just to add to what thenodrog said, there should definitely be a maximum wage. And Rio Ferdinand should be made to give up football. -

[Archived] Mark Hughes - Good Choice ?
broadsword replied to Ste B's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
It doesn't always work like that, Alan. Not a season ticket holder myself, so wouldn't wish to be too presumptuous, but I'd be very surprised if all our major signings are in by 25th June. If they are, then it will be disappointing in a way. Because you'd think that big transfers would take longer. Perhaps they'd need a headline-grabbing signing by then (Bellamy?) but other than that ... well, my guess is season ticket sales will be down anyway ... -

Why do you have to hand it to him? Two wrong decisions, how big they were doesn't matter. Stead is the best striker at the club, alright that doesn't say much but we shouldn't be selling someone of his age. We were being offered around £1 million for Dickov in January from Birmingham weren't we? He should go first because of his age. 319027[/snapback] Gotta say ... I find myself disagreeing with you quite a lot ... Parkes had to go, and who's to say we might get someone in in place of Stead (in Stead's stead?) on less money and for a profit, who bangs more goals in. But don't let that stop you bitching and moaning, we only have 10 weeks in which to get players in - madness! -
Souness started off with an incredible run in the transfer market, everyone was a winner (and that's no lie!) Just goes to show how things can change ...

Wages, perhaps?!

Yep, we're on skid row, with Sheff Wed, Notts Forest, MK Dons and the rest. And Vinjay, what does "Walkers Out" mean? You want to get rid of teh trust fund? What good would that do?

I think we are talking at cross-purposes here ... - You do realise I am talking about Berg leaving for Man Utd, don't you? - I am not saying you were complaining about Le Saux, why did you think that? I am complaining about the way he left (although I recognise what he did while he was with us), but I get the feeling you'd rather people forgot about his narky exit and just remembered him being good. I feel that we should remember him, warts and all. I really can't put it any more starkly than that. -

Dave, there's more than one way to leave an employer - cf Berg. To criticise the way Le Saux left isn't to criticise his contribution, is it? -

If he didn't leave with good grace then it should be pointed out. There's too much of this "I've won something for this club so I am absolved of all sins" attitude amongst footballers these days. Now someone like Henning Berg I have a lot of time for. That's not to say I don't appreciate what happened in '95 ... -

"Another link to '95 disappears" Is he dead, then? No wonder he's retired! A good player, but didn't show us any respect in his last days with the club. -
Fact of the day, fact fans! "Chortle" is a portmanteau word, a combination of chuckle and snort.

Sigh ... ! Lauren comments I really must've been watching a diiferent game. Maybe these chaps should see a few games from the Seventies, then they'd know what a kicking was. Foreign poof.

Can't see Johnson making it. He tried some nice touches on Sunday, but reacted too slowly afterwards. Maybe I'm being harsh, because he was up against a big lug in Ledley King, but he really didn't make much of an impression. Maybe he'll do better next year when we have some more strikers at the club. Didn't think much of McEveley either, he almost got caught out once or twice. Why Jonny Douglas was on the bench I don't know.

Thirty-four quid for a ticket - that really was outrageous. I mean, it really is! Should have got a rebate after missing the first ten mins stuck in traffic. Looked like a typical end-of-season game. Thompson was running down blind alleys trying to find an outlet whilst retaining possession. McEveley I'm not convinced by, Neill looked surprisingly secure, Brad was solid, Pedersen struggled to get the better of his man and Stead just looked worn out. The drummer got right on my t*ts (as usual), and there seemed to be a bit of antagonism with the home fans. Roll on next season. -
Am I being melodramatic in thinking "human trafficking". God, it's bordering on obscene.

I don't know, perhaps he's relying on the brand name, ie fans will still turn up without any further transfer spending. I think he'd have to be a prize chump to demand that players eg Rooney are sold off. But I guess we'll find out. -

He's an incredibly rich chap with incredibly large liabilities. I wouldn't say that he has the same business strategy of Abramovich. I should imagine he'll be looking to maximise profits, and then sell the club on a few years down the line for more than he paid for it. -

There's a lesson in there for Rovers! Jack was considering turning the club public, I'm thankful that he didn't. You can easily fall prey to people who see the club in purely monetary terms, rather than equating success with money, they equate extracting as much money as possible whilst spending s0d all, as their aim. Or so it would seem, anyway. Long way from Michael Knighton making a ?10m bid anyhow. -
His agent is blek though as well!

You can't keep on blaming luck. Sooner or later it will go on so long that it's clealry nothing to do with luck. No-one has a 2-year unlucky streak.
