  1. For those in Melbourne and Adelaide, Australia: SEN1116 and SEN1223 will have the Rovers/Norwich match live. Premiership Live will be broadcast, so tune in.
  2. Guess what came number two in Football365.com's "Very Favourite Chants... Source: http://www.football365.com/features/fun_fe...ry_142808.shtml
  3. He was in defence. I kept tabs on all three of our players and I think he played the better out of all three, although he didn't have to work very well.
  4. He was the best of a very poor general bunch, even though he cheaply lost the ball which ended up as a goal for South Africa.
  5. Nobody said you voted for Jansen (and it is recorded that you didn't). You provided reasons to vote for him and I pointed to your post. No insinuations were implied.
  6. I just had to respond because my selection was disrespected... As I understand it, we are voting for the "greatest", rather than the "best", which is quite a difference. If we were voting for the "best", then we would all be voting purely on statistical evidence. However, since we are voting for the "greatest" team ever, we are all going to have differing opinions on who was "greater", since we have different interpretations of what the "greatest" is. I don't think Bellamy was being disrespectful just looking for reasons. The number of Jansen votes stands out like a sore thumb. We all agree he's a v good player and also that he has an excellent relationship with the fans (which is just as important when picking this team) it just seems that saying he is the 2nd greatest striker we've had is a bit of a stretch no matter how you define "greatest" I agree he could have been but for many reasons he hasn't fulfilled it. If we were picking the 'Greatest' team from the last 10 years (as some people on here seem to be) then I would agree, but not the greatest of all time. I voted Garner but I can see excellent reasons for voting Briggs, Southworth even Sutton or Speedie. Again, not being disrespectful just saying that it's not obvious why you would vote Jansen so please give us your case. My interpretation of Matt Jansen is that he was a quality player and a fan favourite who was a bright spark in a poor division one team that eventually went on to become a good Premier League team again. Well, that and what Eddie and shillitto15 said, but I take your point.

  8. My second, greatest ever striker was Jansen for me, just a needle-thin distance in front of Garner.
  9. I would like to see Reid, Jansen/Stead, and McEveley given a chance, at the expense of Thompson, Neill, and Matteo. We could line-up as the following (4 - 4 - 2 formation): Friedel Nelsen Todd Mokoena McEveley Emerton Savage Reid MGP Jansen/Stead Dickov If we have been playing Thompson in the centre of midfield, I don't see why Reid cannot. He couldn't possibly have his first touch and passing any worse than Thompson. We could use Thompson as a "super sub" for this match. And I must say that I am very optimistic about this game. I believe we can take it by the scruff of the neck if we can play positively and with enthusiasm. In light of this, a 3 - 0 win is my prediction, with goals from MGP, Savage, and Dickov. If we lose, I expect we will be relegated back to Division One (or whatever its ridiculous new name is). Losing to Norwich would definitely see us deserving of relegation. That's just my two cents, anyway.
  10. We have lost the last two games with back-to-back 1 - 0 results (again, against Chelsea and Middlesbrough). We now, at least, have a solid-looking defence. Our attack is still toothless, though. My verdict: We have improved. Hughes...stay!
  11. Yes we have lost 3 games in a row, but look at how we have played in the last 8 games or so. Its bloody depressing! Our last eight league matches includes: December Sun 26 H Newcastle D 2-2 Tue 28 A Bolton W 1-0 January Sat 1 A Aston Villa L 0-1 Mon 3 H Charlton W 1-0 Sat 15 A Portsmouth W 1-0 Mon 24 H Bolton L 0-1 February Wed 2 H Chelsea L 0-1 Sat 5 A Middlesbrough L 0-1 Now, I have only watched us in two of those games, so I can't comment on how we have played with much authority, but a W3 - D1 - L4 record is hardly depressing, is it?
  12. "[savage has] been telling Blues fans that they are a bunch of Bob the Builders!"
  13. Does anyone know if there will be a free live internet broadcast of the match?
  14. You're spot on. In fact, it was Mark Hughes who said that his first impressions when he re-joined the club was that mediocrity was accepted by the players. I have no doubt that Hughes is encouraging the players to give each other a bit of a tongue-lashing every now and then to keep up the standard. That was my impression. There was one (on Duff?) he definitely should have got a yellow for. He surprisingly didn't get booked, but that foul was just cynical, anyway. If anything, I was impressed by Savage's attitude. I remember one incident where Mokoena wanted to argue with the referee after a foul, but Savage told him to get on with the game. Savage did likewise when he fouled.
  15. My prediction: 3 - 0 to Rovers, with Dickov, MGP, and Savage scoring.
  16. I have held the opinion that Jose Mourinho is extremely arrogant for quite a while. Judging by his performance last night, he is closing in ever so fast on the level of arrogance displayed by Alex Ferguson. Last night he showed great disrespect to Blackburn and a former Chelsea player in the form of Mark Hughes. Hughes said: "I was a little bit more upset that the opposing manager was not gracious enough to shake my hand. Sometimes you have to be gracious in defeat but you also have to be gracious in victory afterwards." Too right. And what did Mourinho have to say in reply? "I think this is ridiculous, the game has finished, I'm happy, I want to be with my players, I don't want to be with other people. If I see him when I leave the building of course I would shake his hand.'' What, couldn't he walk two metres to Hughes and shake his hand, and then celebrate with his players? The arrogance of the man. But wait, there's more. His disrespectful comments didn't end there. He continued to show disrespect to our players: "The blond boy in the middle made 20 faults and no yellow card. It's difficult to control emotions.'' Since his team didn't dominate the match to his liking, he decided to spit the dummy, just like he did after Chelsea's first Tottenham match: "They felt they couldn't beat us playing football so they tried to beat us in a different way - direct football, first ball, second ball, being nasty and hard and trying to intimidate players." In the following comment he overlooks the bad attitudes of Terry and Makelele, and further accuses Blackburn of having a "special attitude" (covering the terrible way his players handled pressure): "It was difficult for us against a team who had a special attitude. If I was polite I would call it a special attitude." The pitch wasn't prepared to his preference on an opposition pitch, apparently, and he made sure he mentioned it in very derogatory comments: "During this afternoon it rained only in this stadium -- our kitman saw it -- they tried everything. There must be a microclimate here." Have you ever heard Mark Hughes show so much disrespect to the opposition? He almost never has a bad word to say. He gets on with the job. (I will gladly eat my words if you can prove otherwise.) My conclusion? Mourinho is a spoiled and arrogant millionaire who spits the dummy when things don't quite go his way (losing is no prerequisite apparently... you can win and still spit a dummy). [/rant over]
  17. Yeah, I forgot to mention that in my post-match analysis and was just about to post it, after checking whether it was already mentioned. That ###### me off. Did he really have to do that at Ewood Park?
  18. I'm not sure about winning, but we could have drawn. If only Dickov got that penalty! And a penalty should have been paid to us when Makelele (or Gallas) pushed MGP over in the box. At least we performed well... a lot better than I expected. The likes of MGP and Savage (he didn't go missing, Izzitnot!) really impressed me. There is some hope for us yet, but we really could have used a quality striker (understatement!). In a good overall performance, I will pick out the bad individual performances... Lucas Neill: The Chelsea players were running rings around him. He seems to get sucked in to attempt a tackle on one player, whereby another player runs behind him, all the time. Dominic Matteo: He is very slow and left us exposed all day. I have to give credit to him though, since he did recover a few times when he seemed beaten and kicked the ball out of danger. David Thompson: His first touch was terrible, and his passes were going all over the place today. I would like to give Reid a start in the next few games and use Thompson as a substitute -- to use him as an impetus in the last 15 minutes.
  19. With the rest of the footballer followers in my household ardent Chelsea fans, I did the following question and answer session for my own curiosity, more than anything else. Here it is... ---------- Question & answer session, with Chelsea-supporting Joe King, from eplchat.banterboard.com: Do you think you will win the league this season, now that you are eight points above Manchester United with 14 games remaining? Eight points is a large gap and it can be extended to eleven provided we can get over the Rovers in this match. In the next fourteen games, anything can happen and I can't say it's in the bag just yet. Man Utd are in pretty good form and they will be hungry to try and catch up to us. Having said that, we are in sensational form ourselves. We have won our last seven Premier League fixtures and undefeated for the last fifteen games, and funnily enough, we beat Blackburn in the match after our first loss of the season against Man City. We haven't lost since. Only Arsenal will be kicking themselves right now, having dropped so many games and wont be happy with the 4-2 defeat at the hands of Man Utd yesterday. Provided we can keep our team morale high and continue with the good form, we should be lifting that trophy at the end of the season, and i can't wait. What is your impression of new manager Jose Mourinho, and how has he performed? Jose has been fantastic for Chelsea this season. He's such a tactical master and knows how to get the win. You can see this with our performances on the pitch. We have such a solid defence but also a devastating attack and our goal difference of 40 shows this. He has won many trophies with Porto, (the Champions League last seaosn being the one that stands out most) and Chelsea could see he had the title winning credentials. I was actually quite sad to hear the dismissal of Ranieri. Although, whatever doubts i had about Jose before the start of the season are all now out the window. The results he has been getting have been great. He can be extremely arrogant at times, (but nowhere near as arrogant as Sir Alex Ferguson) he backs up his comments on match day. I'm looking forward to him being at the helm for many years to come. Jose Mourinho has bought several new signings in his time at Chelsea, and a couple of Ranieri signings have also joined during his managerial reign. Who has impressed you the most? Arjen Robben and Petr Cech. And These players were both signed by Claudio Ranieri! Arjen Robben basically turned our season around after many unimpressive performances. We were accused of playing too defensive and playing boring football. With Robben's pre-season injury ruling him out for the first few weeks of the new season, we didn't have much flair going down both wings. That was considered our problem concerning our lack of goals and with the sheer class and creativeness of Robben down the left wing, the goals starting coming in. Robben has really made a good teaming with Duff on the left and right side of midfield. I feel so comfortable watching matches when Cech is in goal. You just know that there won't be too many goals conceded in the match whilst he's in goal. The stats just show what a great season he is having. He has produced 18 clean sheets out of 24 matches and only conceded a total of 8 goals. I have never seen stats like that, it's incredible. I'm hoping he can continue this great form and at 23 years old, he can only improve. I just feel sorry for Carlo Cudicini. You just cannot drop Cech. So thank you Claudio, excellent signings! Looking at signings from Jose, Drogba has been the stand out. Can become a real goal machine, but the long injury earlier in the season has set him back. The likes of Ferriera and Carvalho have been solid in defence as well. And quite frankly, i don't even want to say anthing about Kezman. Damien Duff was a product of the Blackburn youth system who has figured in Chelsea's plans ever since Ranieri bought him before the start of last season. How has he performed? To describe 'Duffers' in one word... sensational! We all know Blackburn have a fantastic youth system and Duff is just a great player. All his skills have been developed at Blackburn and Chelsea are very fortunate to have a player of his calibre playing for us. With his spot in the first team threatened by Robben, it was dountful as to wheather we would see much of him this season. But Mourinho has used him well down the right wing and it looks like he enjoying it. An overall of 9 goals really shows how well he is linking up with Robben. Has been an essential member of the team this year, no doubt. Which player do you think Chelsea will have to look out for when you visit us at Ewood Park? Paul Dickov for sure. Blackburns leading goalscorer with 7 goals overall. Very good striker. Gallas and Terry will have to be careful back there. Savage should also a player to watch out for in midfield. And of course you can't forget Emerton. What are your impressions of Blackburn this season? I'm actually quite surprised at where Blackburn is sitting at this current moment. I was expecting them to be at least around the middle of the table or slightly higher. Blackburn have made some good signings and have enough potential to be in the top half of the table in my opinion. The signing of Craig Bellamy would have been terrific and would have helped the team a lot. Souness was not the man. Hughes, given time, will do some good things with this team. What is your prediction for the Blackburn-Chelsea stand-off? I am never usually confident in matches like these. Blackburn have really tested us in previous matches. I mean, we won our first match against the Rovers at Stamford Bridge for the first time since 1984 earlier this season! I think our form will get us over the line. We will be wanted to really increase our lead on top, especially with Man Utd now chasing us. We wont to kill off that threat. I predict a 19th clean sheet of the season to Cech in a hard fought 2-0 victory to Chelsea. Drogba to bag the first and Robben with the second. And a penalty shout to Blackburn but not given yet again.
  20. I just realised that the match will kick-off on my birthday (GMT time). Hopefully I get a birthday present! If they don't win, then I will be getting extra stick from the Chelsea fans in my household. I already get way too much.
  21. pg, ESPN in Australia have been showing FA Cup games, so if the game is on at midday UK time, the chances of them showing the game are pretty high. I would only say there is a slight chance of that happening. I would be willing to place a couple of ice creams on them showing one of the "big three"... like they always do. I'm still hoping, though. It would be my first Blackburn/Burnley match "live".
  22. Yes, I think that his sale was right. It was ultimately going to happen... he didn't want to stay. Any unhappy or unsettled player has to go eventually. Being sold now, rather in summer, doesn't bother me very much. The amount of money we got for him was the important factor. I would have liked him to stick around, but that would have to have been for his whole contract.
