  1. My grandad raced greyhounds and he bred and owned Red Shadow back in the day. My only advice would be don't take them to the track on a bus whilst feeding them a mars bar
  2. Plymouth Argyle 1 Rovers 3 This was my first ever away game. As I remember, Rovers had to win to guarantee a play-off spot and Plymouth had to win to avoid relegation, so this really was a massive game for both sides. My family were on holiday staying at a nearby Haven caravan park. It was a bizarre holiday camp in which both Phil Parks and Geoff Capes made special appearances! Anyway before we went to the game it came out that one of the entertainers on the site was a Plymouth fan and was going to the game but had no transport so we game him a lift to the game. Before the game some kids were shouting to the warming up players to get their autographs and them some little swine with no shame whatsoever shouted for Chris Price to come over and he trotted over ready to give autographs to his adoring fans but was put firmly in his place when the kid said "will you get Speedie to come over and give us his autograph". David Speedie scored a hattrick on the day. My dad and I were right at the back of the Rovers fans leaving the ground because we were in no rush as we were staying nearby so we took our time leaving. As were milling around the away end I saw David Speedie on the otherside of the fence supping a pint outside what must have been the players bar! A fine way to celebrate a hattrick! My dad forbade me from asking Speedie for his autograph because it would have spoilt his pint if everyone else had seen us getting his autograph and then rushed over. In the away end we were joined by two Plymouth fans who couldnt get into the home stands so they came and watched with us. Rather bizarre fan segragation going on there but I remember in the same season when we played Newcastle at Ewood that when Newcastle scored first all these little Geordies were dancing in the Walkersteel Stand. They just appeared from nowhere. Anyway they were good sports and took the defeat with a brave face unlike the rest of the crowd. As the final whistle blew, onto the pitch ran all these Argyle skin heads who looked determined to get some revenge. I remember one in particular because he seemed to be running directly over to me and my dad with a brick in his hand. Fortunately the police weren't as fat and easily outran them to get between us and them. I was 9 years old at the time and that was really scary and put me off going to away games for a long time. As the crowd filed out and we were led through the home side stand all the seats had been smashed to smitherines, I can only assume as some sort of retribution by the Rovers fans for attempted attack by the greenies. In the car driving back to the caravan my dad said once again said I wasn't allowed to do something when he forbade me from hanging my scarf out of the window afterwards because it wasnt fair to the Argyle chap who was sat in the back with a face on him, so I had to hide my glee.
  3. She crashed her car into a wall recently
  4. I was done by a HUGE fella, not some multilingual girl! Speaking of which whats with the girls walking around with postcards asking people if they speak english? I fell for that one too!
  5. Its obtaining money by intimidation. I have no idea why the police allow it to happen around the major landmarks of Paris. They should crack a few skulls. And I was surprised by the amount of begging taking place.
  6. Got back today from Paris and it was great! Even more expensive than I had anticipated though. Best thing about my trip had to be shopping on, and then drinking a bottle of wine on, the Champs Ellyses! Was a great laugh. Went to the Louvre and saw the Mona Lisa, saw the tapestry of the woman and the unicorn, went to the Eiffel Tower but the queues were biblical saw we passed on that. Notre Dame was great and we went to the top for 7.50 euros. The only negative was when we went to Sacre Coeur and got off at the Chateau Rouge metro stop which seemed to have brought us to the equivalent of a deepest bronx ghetto. Then we got roughed up outside sacre coeur by some tit/lucky lucky man who stuck a piece of string on my finger and then my wrist when I wasnt looking and then insisted we pay 15 euros each, fortunately an American tour guide came and saved us. God bless Americans!
  7. I actually meant this http://events.skyteam.com/sisp/?fx=event&event_id=57258 but the one you suggest there looks good as well.
  8. Eddie I've read somewhere that there are going to be movies, that were filmed in Paris, played in the open air on the 3rd August. Do you know anything about that?
  9. Where are the Tuilleries and what are they?
  10. Thanks Eddie but I've just found their number on the Pompidou Centre website. Certainly looks swish! Is the Pompidou Centre filled with different exhibitions and museums? Do you think its possible to spend a whole day in there or just a couple of hours?
  11. Thanks for your help guys! Eddie do you reckon that "George's" is going to be too popular to expect to be able to turn up without booking a table in advance?
  12. I'm off to Paris for a week with my girlfriend in a fortnight. Can anyone recommend anywhere to see, other than the well known landmarks? Any recommended places to go to eat or places to avoid? Any other tips... ie should I pretend to be Welsh to avoid a potential London 2012 backlash? Thanks for any help
  13. Despite the tragic content of this thread I have found it very interesting to read the posts concerned with the specific events of Thursday and its nice to see the care that some of you show for your fellow members well-being. This thread is very interesting if you read from beginning to end as it shows how people's opinions changed and what people were thinkingand feeling as more and more information came to light and events unfolded on Thursday. Its a pity that the arguments about racism etc etc couldn't have been kept in a separate thread away from the the discussion about the bombings as, for me, they merely distract from what the thread should have been about, whatever the title says. I am sorry to say that, of the four or five forums I regularly read, this forum is by far the most unfriendly that I visit and I seldom post here because of that. Why am I telling you this? Dunno My cousin was in London on Thursday and he is safe as was my girlfriends nan and she is also safe. Thank God! Thoughts are with the chap who's business associate is missing and with that person's family.
  14. What the (Please don't use that word again) do you think you're doing? This is London. We've dealt with your sort before. You don't try and pull this on us. Do you have any idea how many times our city has been attacked? Whatever you're trying to do, it's not going to work. All you've done is end some of our lives, and ruin some more. How is that going to help you? You don't get rewarded for this kind of crap. And if, as your MO indicates, you're an al-Qaeda group, then you're out of your tiny minds. Because if this is a message to Tony Blair, we've got news for you. We don't much like our government ourselves, or what they do in our name. But, listen very clearly. We'll deal with that ourselves. We're London, and we've got our own way of doing things, and it doesn't involve tossing bombs around where innocent people are going about their lives. And that's because we're better than you. Everyone is better than you. Our city works. We rather like it. And we're going to go about our lives. We're going to take care of the lives you ruined. And then we're going to work. And we're going down the pub. So you can pack up your bombs, put them in your arseholes, and get the (Please don't use that word again) out of our city. Source: The London News Review
  15. My first home game was Blackburn Vs Plymouth Argyle 1991 My first away game was Plymouth Argyle Vs Blackburn in 1992
  16. I remember that! Flying down the left wing and tried to cross it and swung at fresh air. Oh the shame!
  17. Tim Sherwood was the proverbial donkey when we were in the old 2nd Division but transformed into a midfield maestro when we got promoted. What about Richard Brown? Or Darren Peacock?
  18. I like the look of that But its already at £30 Out of my price range
  19. £1000+ ????? Is that what they normally go for from that era? I bought a Geographical Dictionary (First Edition) Published in 1793 for £97 on ebay... I know which seems better value to me! Would anyone on here ever even consider forking out a grand for a programme?
