  1. It's a sign of the weakness of Bolton's squad with the African players away that a guy who has is way short of match practice can go straight into the squad the day after signing.
  2. You have to think that there's something serious in this, as otherwise Newell wouldn't stick his neck out so publicly.
  3. I think Hughes would be too sensible to go to Newcastle in the event of an offer. A large part of Souness' motivation for going there was that it was probably his last chance to manage a 'big club' again. Hughes has no need to risk a move somewhere where he would have to put up with constant fan attention and interfering board members, when he can continue to progress at Rovers and maybe move to a better club than Newcastle somewhere down the line.
  4. Cannabis is one of the few drugs that you can never 'overdose' on; even with clinically induced high amounts (i.e. not possible to achieve by smoking or eating it) in experiments. This puts it apart from other drugs including caffeine.
  5. I'm surprised at the lack of praise for Paul Dickov. Listened to the match on Radio London and the commentators were very complementary throguhout, and he got a rousing round of applause when substituted. Hughes was keen to emphasise what a good game he had too. I sense a bit of a negative attitude towards Dickov from some Rovers fans, which I find surprising considering how hard he works for the team, and his decent scoring record.
  6. Haha it's hilarious when politicians bring out that old line. Reminds me of the politician on "The Day Today" saying "yes I have taken ecstasy but i certainly didn't swallow it".
  7. Should have made it clearer; it was a poll of 1000 of the general public but presented on Newsnight
  8. In a Newsnight poll last night, 6% of respondents would be more likely to vote for someone who had smoked cannabis at some time in the past!
  9. I can imagine that if one of our players was the subject of this kind of abuse, for instance "don't forget your helmet" to Matt Jansen, the anger would be much more vocal. Whilst banter between opposing fans, and sometimes between fans and players, is a part of the game I think most fans would consider that the chants aimed at Cisse were out of order. Whether or not it provoked a better performance from Djibril Cisse is debatable, but I know if I were in his position I would be all the more determined to play well. For decency and the team's sake it's just not worth it.
  10. The article refers to class A drugs in general. Cocaine makes up most of the Class A drug use in the UK, and has relatively few fatalities which makes the statistics for Class A drugs in general misleading. If the statistic were for heroin only, it would probably be more clear how destructive it is comparative to tobacco. Legalising cannabis is something I'm in favour of, as the current law criminalises a large number of people who are otherwise law-abiding citizens (the strong link between heroin and crack usage and crime puts these drugs in particular apart).
  11. Crouch gives England something different, as long as they don't fall into the trap of tossing everything up for him in the air. The variety of play is the important thing; last season at Southampton during his scoring streak they were playing it into his feet too which can catch defenders off guard (rather than the predictability of balls in the air). His touch is underrated by Benitez- Liverpool seem to treat him like a head on a giant stick.
  12. Sounds like a typical FIFA game- high quality presentation but flawed gameplay. Every FIFA game I've played over the last 10 years has the 'sweet spots' that are easy to score from. I'll wait for ProEvo 5 instead I think.
  13. For a time the campaign was noticeable in Lancaster, but then disappeared just as quickly as it came. It would be a good idea to cast the net a bit wider, as Bolton and Wigan have been added competition for us in terms of the casual football fan living in the North West who wants to see some Premiership action. At worst these un-attached football fans will provide the club with short term extra revenue, at best they may be converted to loyal Rovers fans.
  14. This is typical of the state of tabloid newspapers today. They leak information before a story is printed to build publicity, and speculation on who it is, for when they decide to name names. Creating a buzz on internet forums and such is a current popular marketing tool. Sales inevitably increase when the "exclusive" finally appears on the front page. I just hope that they've checked their facts, as some of the mud sticks regardless of whether any charges are brought.
  15. I agree. Lucas Neill seems play at his best when he's not complacent about his place in the team. Maybe Zurab playing at full back would be good for Neill in the long run.
  16. Although Sven's tactics have been very confusing in recent matches, I feel that the England coaching staff have got off lightly. Eriksson is not so much of a "hands-on" coach as some of the previous managers and prefers to leave this to his coaches, and therefore poor performances are the fault of the whole coaching staff as well as the manager and players. What really annoys me about Sven is the way that he fuelled the "Eriksson to Chelsea" rumours in order to inflate his contract with the FA, and then lied to his employers about his affairs once he had landed the bumper new contract. England are not getting value for money with Sven.
