  1. Kaminski did it plenty of times.
  2. Hopefully it's just that it's the standard corners procedure (I disagree with it, but then again we have a fairly short team right now and someone said one of our goals resulted from it, though the highlights don't show that part) and they defaulted to it. An oversight from the coaching team maybe...I would hope it will be analysed in training and they'll make it clear that any late late corners should be sent straight into the box.
  3. I was pondering this too. But I think it's a bit of a risk to lift the ball from the angle his body was to it at that time, and it made sense to focus on making sure it hit the target instead. Easy to skew it wide or over if you try to lift it from there. I think if he'd been aware the defender was there he may have taken a touch to steady his position and get a little closer first, that's why I assumed he hadn't seen him before he confirmed it.
  4. Ya know, Szmodics kinda has the look of someone who would have the wrong attitude (to unfairly judge a book by its cover here), but he keeps showing he doesn't. Hard worker, has the humility to accept his first half wasn't good enough but has the strength of spirit not to have let it affect him - in fact, for it to drive him on to a much better second half. He's growing on me all the time. I also happen to think he's the most clinical finisher currently at the club. I think it's harsh to judge the penalty miss too much tbh. He hit the inside of the post, and if Dolan (who I like) had reacted better we'd have scored anyway. If that penalty had been about an inch to the left, it would be as precise as penalties get and we'd be praising it. The pass for Rotherham's first was utterly abysmal. A much more sensible pass was on. He did seem to lose balance as he hit it, which makes me wonder if he was aiming further over to the right flank, but whatever the case it was a car crash pass. His first goal had an element of fortune for sure, I don't think the shot was going in without the deflection (hard to say without another angle). But he controlled it and set it up for himself nicely. Second goal he took very well, although the Rotherham player did nearly get it. I'd already thought what he said in the interview, that he hadn't seen the player, which makes sense given the angle of his run and how he'd be mostly focussing on his technique.
  5. I love when one of us (has happened to me too) says something like this and the player promptly scores.
  6. Unable to watch, due to work, but sounds like some of our fans underestimated how anathema to our style Rotherham are. Again.
  7. Since he hasn't played a minute of football yet and hasn't exactly set the world on fire so far for us, I'd say there's absolutely no way he should start in a team that have just won two in a row without him. He should be on the bench and very likely will be.
  8. I agree, thought it was a bizarre thing to post. Imagine being annoyed a player scored for us. Buckley has been guilty in the past of shooting when he should pass, and passing when he should shoot. And he's missed some sitters too. But he got that one exactly right and notched it into the bargain. What's to criticise? Just the one poster though.
  9. Your mate had one of the most confused moral compasses I've ever heard of then. Sick of fake fans, so deserts his club for another....riiiiight.... Sounds like a prick tbh, and a hypocrite.
  10. Apparently Gally is back for this one. Presumably he'll only be on the bench though.
  11. They also pummeled us 4-0 in this fixture last year whilst finishing 19th. That might be a bit to do with it.
  12. I think his decision making is bound to be flawed due to his lack of senior game time. It would have been really helpful if his loan hadn't been a bust
  13. It has terracing? Thought that wasn't allowed in the pro leagues. If we were at home I'd agree it's a terrific draw. But away, with the young team we will likely put out...I can see us coming unstuck here, which would also of course be a bit embarrassing. I think psychologically it's very different for the youngsters to turn out in front of a hostile crowd at a cruddy little ground, probably a bog of a pitch, than playing in front of a supportive crowd at a proper stadium on a newly stitched pitch. Harrogate have started the season well too. At the very least I expect it'll be a test for them. Could be character building. And I get that people want to go to a new ground. But personally, my consideration of whether it's a good draw is always down to if I think we'll progress, and I have a bit of a bad feeling about this one. Hopefully it'll turn out to be nothing to worry about, but I don't think we'll thump them.
  14. I must have missed the part where I said something was wrong with it. In fact my original post makes the very same point about it being helpful for potential youth recruits.
  15. It'd have to be some dramatic blossoming indeed to make us give a new contract to a nearly 22 year old on the back of how he played in the Welsh league. He'd need to score 15 or more from midfield I'd imagine. Pretty sure it's all been done for the player's benefit not so much ours.
  16. Agreed, another strange one. Like you say, why extend for a year just to send him to a level we'll learn nothing from his performance at. He'll be 21 next month, sounded promising at times. I can only think we extended it to give him time to find a new club. Doesn't really benefit us though, other than in showing our young lads and prospective youth signings that we take care of our boys.
  17. LT says that one was top corner though, so presumably nothing much to be done about it?
  18. I wasn't thinking of the Shrewsbury Tom Bloxham. It was a lineup thing I read earlier that had him down as a forward.
  19. No? Fair enough, thought I'd read he was.
  20. Surprised it's not Bloxham they've brought on for him, or Markanday. At this stage, with Pickering and Hyam brought on to shore up the defence too, you'd hope the game is won.
  21. Clearly decided the defensive shambles needed shoring up. Sounds like Wharton would have been the one to take off though over Barnes.
  22. Poor do that. Not even four times their borough's population.
  23. And like I said in my post, I'm not saying he won't make it. So we both agree, he may or may not make it. I'm only saying it's not a good standard of loan. I don't think we've done well by the lad there. I suspect we've taken it because we've hoarded too many youth keepers and he wasn't going to get enough game time in the U21s with Hilton and Eastham around, plus the likely need to play whoever our backup keeper turns out to be there from time to time. I think we do a really poor job finding the right loans for our youngsters, on the whole, considering the standard of our academy. Carter, Wharton and Raya (that one a long time ago now) worked out well but other than that I can't think of any. Far more players have managed a pathway straight into our team. Anyway, this game.
  24. Attendance: 6,173 (579). I momentarily read this as 6,173,579. Which would have been fairly impressive.
