When the current crop make it into the first team as at least squad members, or don't. There really is no other worthwhile metric of it. I know it's sadly a waiting game to judge it, but that's just how it is.

January Transfer window

According to wiki it's a 7 mill obligation to buy at the end of the season. But that's not money now, and more to the point as my subsequent post states, they haven't been getting fees for a very long time now but spend a bit most seasons. Going back to 2018/19 there is only that summer and next summer where they've received a fee of note, and in 2018/19 they spent nearly half the proceeds, and have spent something in most seasons. If I recall rightly, when I looked they didn't receive fees in 2017/18 either. Yet we consistently have large sales and apparently can't spend hardly any of it despite similar crowds. -

In fact, Millwall seem to have had a net spend in the transfer market every season since 2018/19 (except the 2020/21 season where they neither spent nor received fees...well, 3 were signed for undiscloseds and 1 sold for undisclosed). In 2018/19 they received 7.8 million Euros for George Saville (and reinvested nearly half of it), which may be the only time in this period they've received more than the 670k Euros they got for Tyler Burey. Technically this might not be fully accurate, as there have been 7 for which the fees aren't known...1 to a then Championship Wycombe, and the rest to lower leagues or inferior foreign leagues (Irish Premier Division). Doubtful those were big fees. -

But we can't compete with giants like Millwall, their attendances are *checks notes* about the same as ours! Plus in the summer they brought in...looks like nothing. And spent about 5 million. And last year they brought in 600k and spent about 6 million. Our tens of millions in surplus raised transfer revenue is nothing compared to that! God, I wish fans would stop being ungrateful and remember it's not 1995.... -

I think the Travis injury makes that a much bigger ask now. The Trav-Tronstad combo has been fundamental to how we play, and nobody else we have in reserve plays like either of them. We essentially need a new system for the next 6 weeks. It'll be huge credit to Eustace if we can get a good points haul whilst Trav is out. Look at what has happened to one of the most highly rated managers of all time, Pep, when he has lost his fulcrum player in central midfield. Even with one of the best squads in the world he doesn't have a sufficiently similar player (or a sufficiently quality replacement for a Ballon D'Or winner) and is struggling to adapt, putting them in freefall. -

I'd rather he be of some use here for a month with us in a promotion fight, and continue to be backup for that style of midfielder when Tronstad or Travis inevitably get injured or suspended again, than potentially end up notching just a handful of League One appearances again. -

As you would be for virtually every club in virtually every window if every time a rumour came out you said it wasn't happening. -

Not if he said it on the ones we signed too, which is what the person you quoted was replying to. But yes, denying every rumour will statistically result in getting more right than wrong. -

I think a recall and a loan to League One should work for Rovers and the player, assuming there's interest. -

That is their philosophy. And as far as their caveman crowd are concerned it's playing the right way. (Not actually knocking that style tbf, the game is mostly about winning and nothing wrong with a bit of passion...Millwall fans are proper scum though by and large) -

I knew that, so I've no idea why I didn't think to bet on under 2.5 goals and also on Travis being booked, which was an inevitability in this game! -

Ah, then I'd just consider whether to activate it dependent on what happens between now and the end of the season. More than likely I wouldn't bother. It seems stupid to me to be in negotiations with him now, but I guess Eustace clearly likes him as he has been involved in every game and played more minutes than the others in his position. -

I didn't realise that, but you're right, he's played in every league game this season, wow! ....and scored 1 goal and notched 1 assist, from left and right midfield/forward. In 20 games. Less goal contributions than Travis, a CM (2 goals, 1 assist). The same as Hyam, a CB. Looking at similar positions, half of what Dolan (2 goals, 2 assists) in 18 games, Weimann (4 goals) in 15 games, and Joe Rankin Costello (2 goals, 2 assists) in 13 games, with some games spent at CM and RB, have contributed, all in less games. Erm, bit shit really isn't it? Btw, minutes comparison makes him look even worse next to Weimann and JRC. Hedges: 1,289 minutes (1 GC per 644.5 minutes aka 1 every 7.16 games) JRC: 726 minutes (1 GC per 181.5 minutes aka 1 every 2.016 games Weimann: 720 minutes (1 GC per 180 minutes aka per 2 games) -

I'd agree...I mean, at most I'd consider offering him a one year extension, if he stays fit and moderately consistent til March-ish (when I'd start negotiations). Depending on what he's on, and what our budget is likely to be. But if he wanted a raise or more years I'd end negotiations right there (if I even started them). He's been ok in spurts, but there's never been a run of form where he has felt like a matchwinner more than very occasionally. Quite frankly, we can do better, even on the cheap if we're smart. If he was a symptom of that, he'd be a lot more expensive. He was a very small fee (not free as RF99 said) and will be on a fairly low wage for a Championship player. He's a symptom of cheapskate ownership and a dried up transfer budget for years now. -

We gave virtually all of those players a fair crack of the whip. Sometimes an unfair crack of the whip (see Tyler Morton). We didn't see them get rave reviews in their first appearances, peter off a little bit in the next couple, then get dropped from the bench entirely and play them in far less games than they'd played the prior season in the Prem. I can't think of one example where that's happened here. -

Garrett's stats for Bristol: Appearances (Starts) 6 (3) Goals (Assists) 0 (0) xG 0.22 Shots (On Target) 4 (1) Pass Accuracy 81.1% Chances Created 3 Tackles Won 81.8% Duels Won 60% Aerial Duels Won 45.5% Recoveries 10 Obviously I haven't watched him, but those look like solid stats for a CM in minimal game time. Certainly not 'get frozen out of the whole matchday squad in a team that aren't even doing well' stats. -

And regardless of what RF99 said, I do think the piss has been taken with Garrett. If he doesn't play any more games by January he will have played 7 games in half a season. He managed 21 games last season for us, so averaged out, 50% more game time in a far superior team in a far superior league. I wouldn't loan anyone to Bristol for the next three seasons personally, and I'd be telling them why. -

Garrett and O'Riordan not even making matchday squads....definitely getting recalled. Turned out to be pointless loans, shame, they both should have been able to secure reasonable game time. Garrett I expected to be a regular, O'Riordan a squad player and hopefully showing promise. Just a wasted half season. -

Mad that Gueye will get an assist for that 🤣 Can't believe he didn't smash that home, nice for Beck to get his first goal I think it is? -
For all his flaws, Gueye doesn't remotely strike me as someone who is afraid to mix it with defenders. I expect he was trying to peel off the defender, which is a common and often effective tactic.

bluebruce replied to Upside Down's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
I already answered that on page 19. Nobody here is trying to take it off him, primarily because we don't have the power to do so, but also because obviously we want him to be the scorer for his confidence. That makes utterly zero difference to any objective debate about whether he did in fact score it or not. Emotive bias doesn't factor into that. What we want to be true isn't necessarily true. -
