  1. Who cares about Neill anymore? He's in the past and we ended up with Warnock which is what Sparky wanted. Lucas was never popular with followers of the Reds after his appalling tackle on Carragher (yes, I thought it was when it happened). Guess he won't be intimidated walking out at Anfield though. Claret and Blue - equates to the colour of bruises, injury and disease.
  2. Maybe the best thing is to use the old undisclosed fee trick and let Bruce claim they got a good deal. Bruce didn't help his sales pitch by pointing out how difficult it had been to get Dunn fit. Still, there has to be a little sympathy for the St.Andrews planks, feels a little like the Ferguson saga but at least Dunny hasn't whined as much as the little 'Gers ex-captain.
  3. I only wish Noel could return, we miss him dearly. God rest his soul.
  4. Jeffers looks like he is getting better with more games played. We might not have any other choices up front and I would prefer not to risk Nonda unless he is fully fit. There are some tough league games coming up where we will need all the squad we can get. Anyway, I'm hopeful that Jeffers will fit well enough with McCarthy given more time on the pitch together.
  5. Full marks to UEFA, I'm sure they have been waiting for some idiot to give them a chance to demonstrate their commitment to eliminating racism. The Serb dummy obviously made the comments in front of witnesses other than Benni which clinched it. The only disappointment is that they didn't increase the sentence. It will seem strange for some of our Polish friends to hear how we feel about this but we have gone a long way from the days (relatively recently) when racist abuse was part of the terrace noise in England. So overall a good result, a five match ban and we win in Krakow. Suspect that Wisla will finish bottom of the group.
  6. Can't say I'm happy about the lower than expected attendances but the dropping gates are common at most clubs in the Premiership at the moment. Lots of reasons - Cost Frequent changes to kick-off times and days But most of all televised games. See how many pubs are showing the games live. As for Bolton some of my neighbours are Whites (in Chorley, although born and bred on Highercroft), the old couple have been Wanderers season ticket holders for well in excess of 35 years. I use the past tense as they told me that they have chosen not to renew this season. Their reason? Not cost, not league position, but quote "The football they are playing at the Reebok is appalling and we shan't be going again until it changes" unquote. I can guarantee that the game on Sunday will be the worst we see all season at Ewood, it always is against Bolton. They have an effective style but entertaining? Groan. I will still be there because I bleed Blue 'n White but I will be pleasantly surprised if there is any passing, flowing football played. It will be a day for shin pads and cricked necks. Oh, and more than a few 'collapses' close to and in the Rovers box. Its football but not as we know it. Thank heavens we only have to see Bolton once a season at Ewood.
  7. Plenty of places to stop nearer to Rotterdam than Amsterdam. The trains from Amsterdam Centraal do take about an hour to Rotterdam and then you need to get to the ground. You could even stop over in Belgium, its not far to travel from there. Anyway I suspect Krakow to be a tougher game, if only because the locals will be more intimidating. Worth a trip though, the Dutch are great football fans (memories of watching games at the Philips Stadion). Enjoy!
  8. Maybe he is on his way, if so we've had damn good value for the pittance we paid Millwall. He still seems to be putting his all into his games so lets hold him to his contract unless a good offer comes in. Anyway, he isn't even the first choice right-back anymore - what's happened to all the other left-backs? Micky Gray seems to have gone to the same limbo land as Toddy. Guess McEveley or Taylor might be the next choice.
  9. Several memories of this, easilly my favourite game ..... Trouble kicking off before the game thanks to the hordes of Arg ai ull dumped well before kick-off in Blackburn so their coach drivers could get a break (tight gits could've had two drivers per coach). Mick Hickman scoring, grabbing the ball out of the net and sprinting back with it to the centre spot. He had the heart of a lion, perhaps not the most skilful player but on the day a hero. Seeing the most amazing comeback I've experienced from a team in Blue and White. Five goals! Gordon Lee's team were not goal machines that season but what a defence. And for those who weren't there and don't know what it meant on the day, the tears of joy streaming down the face of the old man standing a few feet from me on the Riverside. Everyone was hugging each other whether stranger or not. What a game! PS Didn't Bobby Saxton and Jim Furnell play that game, I remember Furnell but Bobby I'm only guessing at.
