  1. Like the line "endured a stint at Birmingham" I know we don't like them but I didn't know they were quite that bad to work for.
  2. The difference is Jeffers after his assist for Bentley's goal was amazing. Imagine what he'll be like if he ever scores. And how far did Bentley run to score that goal? They always pick out other teams and highlight the runs they make but when you see Bentley wide right putting in the pass to Neill and then see where he ends up to score it's like watching one of the top teams!
  3. Try Hawksbee and Jacobs between one and four. andy Jacobs is a Chelsea supporter but takes the mickey out of them and Paul Hawksbee is even forgiven for being a Spurs fan because together they make me laugh. Agree with you about fighting talk though - quality radio
  4. Can't see a problem with his being offered a new contract as long as we don't expect him to play all the games. Craig Short stayed at Rovers whilst hardly playing just because he was such a good example to younger players and could still play some part in the first team
  5. The errors in grammar and punctuation are laziness when I type on here and not any lack of knowledge. I actually teach French and German and can be as pedantic as anyone else about grammar and so on. I just prefer to get messages written quickly, especially on Friday nights, and can't be bothered to check when there are more interesting things to do!
  6. Andy Townsend has just been remarking that Rovers are yet again going quietly about their business and Mike Parry actually said what a good manager Mark Hughes is. Mind you the Everton biased idiot had to mention them as well even though it was nothing to do with them.
  7. Sorry message above is yet again me not my son who is too lazy to log off my computer. well it is his birthday so I'll forgive him
  8. thing that really annoys me is that this morning I've got kids in school telling me that rovers were rubbish last night. they hadn't been to the match but will just always say they are rubbish. Rovers unfortunately are still not winning the battle for fans in their own town despite the fact that the crowd last night was quite a good one.
  9. Doesn't matter to me who we get in terms of being able to travel because the only real disadvantage of being a teacher is that you can't take days off. Can't even try pulling a sickie because everyone would know where I'd gone! Would like a french team in the group stages though because I saw Bordeaux play in the summer against Lorient and they were rubbish so if they are Champs league material it doen't say much for the rest of the league. Also not very impressed with psg when I saw them lose at home to Lorient so one of the French sides would be nice. Would mean my daughter could probably go too as she's living in france this year.
  10. Did have the impression Pompey are beginning to believe the media and starting to think they're actually good, which meant that Bolton were bound to turn them over.
  11. It just occurred to me today actually how young Zurab is because they say defenders don't really reach their peak till they are about 30 when, even though they lose pace, they have so much experience in reading the game that their positioning more than makes up for the lack of pace. All defences make mistakes. The key is to learn how to minimise the effect of those you do make. I thought it was very noticeable on saturday that with a full week to work on the defence it held together reasonably well. Yes there were chances for the Boro but it's a very rare game where there are no chances. ( City away last season?)
  12. Disagree with Revidge about Bentley. What you see on TV even the full game and what you see on the pitch are 2 very different things and Bentley played really well. He was always working to create space and interchanging with emerton and I'll take more performances like that from him any day.
  13. Thought the defence had improved from last week despite giving Euell those chances and seemed to grow in confidence throughout the match. They are beginning to play as a unit and, although they'll still make too many mistakes for comfort, if they continue to play together they can only get better. Stable back 4s make for good understanding of one another's game and create the ability to cover for one another. There were the first signs of it happening on saturday.
  14. Mark Hughes agrees. He wants to win everything!
  15. Thought it was great to hear the fans chanting Emerton's name yesterday and I bet he loved it too after some of the stick he's had in recent seasons. He just looks a completely different player now that the pressure of having to beat his man is taken off him
  16. Certainly not impressed with whoever washes his underpants. Should use Daz!
  17. Try telling that to my kids! One a student and one a recent graduate. I pay for their seson tickets so they can continue coming to Rovers but if I didn't they couldn't .
  18. Not a big club - now that's a whole different can of worms and we don't want to get involved in that one again. The plain fact is that Blackburn and those parts of the Ribble valley not infected by Burnleyitis should be able to provide bigger gates than Rovers currently get even in the current economic climate and with the current downward trend in a lot of clubs' gates.
  19. Yes but then you don't live in Blackburn so the cost of travel becomes a factor. I think the people we really have problems with are those who live a stone's throw from the ground and like the benefits in terms of employment and kudos that having a premiership team playing in Europe bring to the town but can't be bothered to come to ewood even on reduced price tickets
  20. However, have to say Ramadan will have started so my chances of persuading pupils to go is minimal. Also there are school open evenings that evening - unable to be changed because of clashing with other schools. In fact you'll be able to spot me that night because I'll be the one looking like they should be in the posh seats whilst sitting in the family stand as I won't have time to get changed.
  21. The problem with lowering ticket prices across the board is that if they are cheaper than the price per match of a season ticket then there's currently no incentive to buy a season ticket because there's no difficulty in getting match tickets. Rovers need their season ticket sales to give them at least one guaranteed source of revenue up front. They then know that whatever happens at least that is money and in most cases fans guaranteed. You can only really offer low price match tickets on anything other than an ad hoc basis if you have a waiting list for season tickets and a shortage of match day tickets and then you wouldn't need to anyway.
  22. Not necessarily. Previously more 17 year olds went into employment. Now at least 65-70% of kids are expected to stay in education till they are at least 18 and the student population has increased massively. When I went to Uni you got a grant-not a lot but you weren't expected to pay it back. Now students get landed with horrendous debts based on the false assumption that they will earn much more money than non-graduates. However, when 35% of the young adult population are aiming for degrees or other higher qualifications then it's harder to get that well-paid job, at least initially and when you do the government starts clawing your money back.
