Well no, he isn't likely to be gone when he realises how hacked off and pessimistic some of our fan base are. Let's not be melodramatic here. I don't think football fans are renowned for their sunny dispositions. Especially so at a club like ours where the owners are billionaires, but there doesn't seem to be the wherewithal to keep the ground in good nick, there's been a parade of time servers through the club for the last decade or more and add the club stagnates, the only people to have done on out of it appears to be the agents.

So yeah, I'm pessimistic. Although my post was tongue in cheek, it belies a weary resignation that had become my coping mechanism over twelve very long years. Of course, I how we get promoted and things start to improve, but that's just how talking, you can't live off hope.

Conversely some people would welcome venkys back with open arms and consider Mowbray to be some sort of legendary messiah, who should have a statue erected in his honour. I don't get that attitude at all, but hey, it's all part of life's rich pageant

I can't argue with most of your post, you make some valid points. What I do have an issue with is some on here 'liking ' posts which state a manager we all seem to be hoping might be the start of something better will be gone by Christmas when, in effect, he's only just got here.

I still don't get that and don't think I ever will. It suggests cynicism is their default position and I find that both sad and probably unhealthy.

They scraped the John Park list of players who didn’t have baseball caps & torn jeans & started from scratch ….

Hourihane & Marcondas were on the old list …..

Anel was the player lined up for this week ….

Anel was the pressure relief signing …..

Plus Now they can’t sign the loan players from PL clubs ( Mads Bidstup etc ) until Mid August who want to see the players in pre season so they stuck down that avenue !!!

Berget is hard to justify to the money men  ! He’s 32 or something…. They could have sneaked him under the JDT “we need experience” line

Malmo now in Champions League so not in a rush to let Veljko Birmancevic leave ..they just received 6 million bonus from UEFA for there run from last season & 3 Million for Anel ….

As much as this is going to kick off another outpouring of misery I don't actually mind hearing this.

Park's list has thankfully been thrown out.

We need a fresh start - hopefully we'll see a few fresh start signings soon...

I don't understand some of you people - seeming to enjoying the thought of everything coming crashing down & JDT feckin off. Closely followed by the usual suspects 'liking' said posts. I don't get it...

He's just as likely to be gone when he realises how miserable & fatalistic some of the fan base are.

I agree with your analysis on what sort of players we need. But realistically the absolute maximum number of players we've been able to bring in over the years in a single window has been about 4 perms and 4 loans. So eight signings is the max achievable imo. it's also worth saying is even the best managers do well to get more than 60% of their transfers right.

So while it's cathartic to say sell Ayala, Gallagher and Hedges I don't think it will be wise to move out more players when we already need to sign eight or so before they leave. Plus I think under new management they may improve. It's worth giving them a chance to see if that's the case.

I tend to agree - I don't see any of those 3 going for the reasons you state above. If I had to choose one to vacate the premises however it would probably be Ayala, especially if it helped facilitate getting the Bosnian centre half in.

Jack Walker, Daniel Levy and most owners have the best interests of their club at heart. They also tend to show an interest in what’s going on and employ competent people they trust.

Can’t say I’ve seen any evidence of this being the case with Venky’s.

Daniel Levy doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Jack Walker as far as I'm concerned. He's a snake oil salesman...

The Club would have been in a far better position imo  if the owners had actually been a lot more invested and  hands on and over-ruled Mowbray on various occasions over the years.

    - Not paying £2m over 2 years for Mulgrew to play for League 1 Clubs

    - Not handing Gladwin a new deal to train with us to get fit.

    - Not handing out lengthy deals to dross like Evans and Bennett and the ageing Graham

    - Not giving Downing another deal then never using him.

    - Not paying players who hadnt featured at all  in the Covid hit season for another 3 months at the end

    - Not paying £5m for Gallagher who wasn't particularly good first time he was here

    - Not signing Chapman twice and rarely playing him on either occasion.

    - Not signing Davenport and rarely playing him

    - Not handing out a 4 year deal to the useless Pears and another to a Greek keeper who was never used

    - Pre pandemic, not running massively bloated squads full of squad fillers

    - In conjunction with the above, stipulating on the contrary that the key assets in the squad should be protected and not be allowed to approach the last twelve months (or less) of their contracts.

You think I have an agenda against Mowbray and you'd be right in that respect as I regard him as pound for pound one of the worst managers we've ever had. On the flip side of the coin I find your insistence on defending him against every single word of criticism very odd.

It comes across as if you were related to him.

At least you're honest enough to admit your agenda. I'm no Mowbray apologist and wanted him gone but the bolded comment is clearly BS. Just off the top of my head I give you Kidd, Ince, Berg, Coyle,  Appleton, Lambert and Kean and that's only in the more recent past.

To say he'd happily have sold all 3 at Christmas after they'd played key parts in getting us into automatic promotion places speaks volumes of the brains and ambition.

Who in their right mind would have even considered that at that point unless the baliffs were knocking.

    Clowns.

Well it seems as if it was sell 'em or see 'em go for nowt. Like others have suggested I don't think there was ever really a third option option (i.e. they had no real intention of signing new contracts..)

Personally I'd have flogged them. We weren't/aren't ready for promotion and if we had gone up I think next season would have been a car crash...

Again, it isn't so simple. Nobody had offers on the table 2 years ago. The club did nothing on new contracts during the Covid lockdown. This is part of the issue. We were too late addressing things.

Of course it is a simple fact the players declined the offers made to them. The issue is what offers were made, when, how were these players treated in negotiations.

Very easy for the Club to offer 'improved' terms. But if it is too late, disrespectful or a pathetic raise then that adds another dimension to the simple situation you refer to.

And you'll never know will you, just like we'll never know what happened at your last pay discussion at work.

There's lots to get stoked up about in the world but how these ex-players were 'treated' in negotiations is definitely not an issue I'll be getting my knickers in a twist about.....

Game of opinions, but I disagree completely. I think he's going to be the biggest loss actually.

I would've agreed earlier in his career, but I thought he was very strong last season. Actually for the last couple of seasons, there's a massive difference between our win % with and without Lenihan in the team.

I'll grant you he was better last season but his lack of composure on the ball and crappy distribution always wound me up. JPVH was so much better in that regard and that's why he's at a Premier League club and Lenihan isn't...
