  1. I can't imagine that any other clubs are interested in Brereton. Prem teams are out the equation. There is probably only Villa, Boro and the 3 relegated clubs with the money to buy him at prices mentioned. *Derby have about 9 strikers so not including them. All of those have the wage structure for more proven options. We are bidding against ourselves. Should now be at the 'final offer, 24 houes take or leave it stage'.
  2. We shouldn't be bothered if they eek more money out of us. It's not our money anyway ?
  3. I think those 3 on a permanent would make it a very good window.
  4. And still get £4.5 million change!
  5. I'm scratching my head over Chapman. If we are talking £8 mil for this 19 year old then surely anything under £1.5 mil for Chapman is a bargain. Got pace, can play either wing and pretty certain he could play the 10 role. Seems the perfect player to recruit for what we are trying to do. Injury risks potentially but just seems a strange player to completely ignore.
  6. Only just listened to Mowbray's interview. Sounds like we may be moving away from Brer Rabbit and onto pastures new. Also sounds like clubs are asking for more now our budget is out there. Edit:. encouraging hearing TM talking about replacing pace with pace. A commodity we've been short of for years.
  7. Yes, was quite surprised to see one or two journos tipping them for relegation. Seems they are on a downward trajectory. Millwall have been the biggest yard stick so far. As it stands, we should give most teams a game with our first 11. Wigan also seem to have made a decent start. Nothing to fear.
  8. Well pleased with that. Thought we may struggle today but by all accounts we played really well. Good thing TM knows what he's doing. Pace is a wonderful thing to have in a side. Fancy us for another 3pts on Weds now. Back from holiday Wednesday lunch. Can't wait ?
  9. Excellent. Hope Dack is ok now.
  10. Yikes. Thought TM preferred 2.5 attackers. Not even got that. Be very surprised if we get anything with that line up.
  11. Couple of wins would do our recruitment chances the world of good you would think. If we are bottom 3 after a couple more games, can't see many wanting to come permanently.
  12. Draw wouldn't be the end of the world. Unbeaten and all that. Win would make it a good start. Lose and you would have to say (given who we've played) that it's a poor return. Don't fancy us today. I think we will get our first win on Weds. 2-0 Hull.
  13. Agreed. For that kind of money you would be wanting a ten to fifteen goal return this season.
  14. Out of interest if £8million was enough to purchase McGinn, Maddison, Chapman and Bauer. Would you take those four or just Brereton?
  15. If we are being picky, Lambert still has two first 11 players starting each week. TM has had 3 windows now and you would only say that Dack and Smallwood are consistent first 11 players (with jury out on Smallwood at this level). Obviously the likes of Bell, Rothwell, Davenport and Armstrong may progress into the team as the season progresses. Still got to see if TM can sign players that improve the first 11 straight away. Not a Lambert love in, just the facts of his transfer dealings compared to TM - so far.
  16. We may have a substantial amount and yes TM certainly deserves to spend it. Still baffled why this wasn't done in the transfer window - if our kitty is so decent.
  17. Lambert signed Ward and Bennett for peanuts. He also got that Simeon Jackson in for free (6 month deal). Loans were Danny Graham, Jordi Gomes and Matt Grimes if I remember correctly. Then sold Rhodes on the promise of funds in summer.
  18. Not disagreeing with you. The point I was making Is that Venkys have previous for promising funds and not delivering. I would be very nervous at spending all we have on one unproven player, in the hope that funds do appear in the next window.
  19. He made some shrewd signings and only had one window. TM has now had 3. Not saying he was the answer and the footy was s*** but he certainly knew that the squad at the time was dire and needed massive investment. The point being it was promised, then taken away. Certainly wasn't given to the next manager either (thank God). I keep wanting to believe that we have a plan forward and Venkys know what they are doing now but....
  20. Different owner with club at heart. Building off a solid foundation. Silly comparison.
  21. It would seem that most teams are getting round it by hitting lucky on transfer sales. Derby have sold a couple for £10 mil to balance books, Boro got £18 mil for their winger. If Villa need to, they can offload Grealish for £25 mil. Etc. Likewise if they hit the jackpot of promotion, problem solved. Wednesday spent big but haven't been able to sell anyone high enough to balance their books. That's the gamble I suppose. Looking at the Championship, Brentford seem to be the model of a well run trading club at the moment. They sell a couple each year and reinvest at a sensible level. Dark horse team for a play off place each year. Edit: you would expect that with Dack and Lennihan, we would be able to get good fees to offset losses - so we are compliant in the three year period. I'm guessing that is the logic- if any.
  22. The whole problem returns to the owners being unpredictable. If TM sold them his vision of building a promotion team over 2/3 windows, and he gets £10 mil each window, we can afford to spend big on one or 2 players each window. However, the owners have never shown any previous indication (Rhodes aside) that they will spend that level on transfers consistently. Lambert thought he was getting it and look how that turned out. Most likely, as TM even mentioned himself, if the money isn't spent, it may not be available again. In which case signing 3 or 4 is much safer option. Strengthens the squad and provides better odds of a profit on at least one player - enabling us to become a trading club once more. It really is the only way we will ever 'wash our face' outside of the Prem.
