  1. You've named two players that for one reason or another we won't sign. Chaddy, I'm with you. A ball playing CB is absolutely critical to playing the style TM wants. If it were you and me, we'd spend the money there. For some reason (look at the last 9 -10 yrs), we've spent an absolute pittance on defence. I just can't see that changing if, as is rumoured, we won't shell out £800k on a good keeper, we aren't paying £2million on a CB.
  2. Look at the players out there who can play the role. There aren't many. Then tell me which one we will pay a sizeable fee for. TM dug himself a hole with Tosin and his possession football approach. He based his tactical approach around Tosin playing out - Stupid move when you don't own the player. Build your system around the core players at the club (ones we own). Use loans to embellish the system. That is what should be happening. *That's not an over reaction by the way - it's common sense.
  3. Given that Mowbray wants the next Beckenbauer, we've, no chance of finding anyone. Just put a no-nonsense, big unit in there and play the football in the top half of the pitch.
  4. .. a right footed midfielder preferred at left back, one winger and two 6ft4 strikers that can't hold up a ball?
  5. The standard of player linked so far is absolutely depressing. I hope to God we can raise our expectations to the 'Y' list.
  6. That's the most realistic yet based in past windows. I'll be fuming if we don't get an experienced keeper in permanently.
  7. Agree wholeheartedly. with that. Sheff United have been the best example of that in the last few years and as much as I hate to say it, Burnley also. Different approaches but both effective and you know what to expect. We've been at our most dynamic and effective when we've played with a high intensity press. Developing an approach around that would be more effective than this possession lark.
  8. But our post lockdown results were shockingly bad despite the possession! Surely a case for not adopting that approach.
  9. Probably an unpopular opinion but...If Wigan have to offload players and we are looking for a midfielder, I wouldn't be against trying to get Sam Morsy. Nasty little bastard. Just what we need. To be fair he also weighed in with 3 goals and 3 assists, which is better than our usual midfield return.
  10. So yet again defence is neglected at the expense of other areas...and we wonder why we ship goals.. There should only be one priority at Ewood -strengtgen the defence/keeper. We have reasonable academy cover in other areas of the pitch but nobody stands out in defence - especially full back areas.
  11. Don't know much about James Chester but given that he's only 5ft 11, he doesn't strike me as the dominant cb we need. According to the Stoke forum (where he's been on loan), he's also slow and they don't want him. But if he's a nice bloke and free, he'll probably rock up here on a nice 3 yr deal.
  12. Lack of a cb is a recurring theme for town team trials. I got shunted from CF to play there. Had a shocker ?
  13. That used to be the first tackle put in by a defender if they knew you were better than them. You took it and hope they got a yellow and not just a ticking off and a wry smile from the ref. At least on a yellow you, knew they'd be off after the next one!?
  14. If you go out on loan to league 2 and stand out in that side, then you certainly deserve a crack at this level next season. Certainly as a squad player ahead of Williams.
  15. Your probably right about a set budget. But we also have history of having a set budget and chasing players we can't afford, then bemoaning that they were too expensive! Apart from the fact he's a midfielder (and we have glaring issues elsewhere), I like the idea of signing Whiteman. Good age at 24, best player at his club. Bit like a 'Dack' signing. That's the kind of profile I'd like us to aim for. He could dove tail very nicely with Travis. Though not sure how good he'll be playing right wing?‍♂️
  16. Expensive loan signings like Tosin over a permanent signing like Bauer are only a master stroke if that bit of extra class gets you promoted. Now we're stuck trying to play this passing game that Tony rambles on about - which he based on Tosin playing out through the press. Now we are without the only player who could make it work and no CB. Not such a master stroke.
  17. His set pieces have been poor, Mulgrews were much better.
  18. Oh for a player that can get round the back of teams and cross. Sick of our lack of width.
