  1. I think a closer game is often better for sharpness and match fitness - lots of debuts, players coming back from serious injuries (both, in the case of Barnes). If it had been me and I picked that back four I'd probably have stuck a more experienced GK behind them but hey I can't complain about a manager really willing to give the kids a chance. After the opening two games I'm much less worried about our forward line. I'd still like to bring a striker in, but looks like there are goals in the youngsters and it's a promising start from Ennis. Garrett looks better every time he gets a game. I thought last year Scott whartons bad form came from rushing him back after injury whilst we were a bit thin on the ground - I'm a bit disappointed he doesn't seem to have picked up much after pre season. Worth giving him the time though, because if he can get back to where he was he's an important player.
  2. I fell into that trap - the other Tom Bloxham is a centre forward, not the one we signed
  3. Cheers, it's a way off but I'd love to see two sets of brothers in the team if we hang on to the Wharton's.
  4. Who is Edmondson on the bench? Not a name that usually comes up when talking about the youngsters.
  5. I hate 120 min penalty taker subs, never seems to work.
  6. I'd plan for 45 each for Ennis and Leonard, good for the fitness and it would be harsh to drop Leonard completely. If the players know in advance they can manage their games accordingly.
  7. Earps has a decent record Vs penalties too, but honestly I can't see us getting away with this one. Might just be nerves on my part but we're second best here and the players know it. Gets in your head.
  8. One substitute used... The players look exhausted even without a player down. Surely we've got players on the bench who could come on and run their hearts out for fifteen minutes.
  9. England are losing this. I always used to think Ellen white was a bit clumsy, but the one thing we've really missed this tournament is a strong centre forward. If we had a player like Oshoala or Popp up front we'd win this tournament. Absolutely brain-dead from James, did she seriously think she'd get away with that?
  10. A very... debut debut from tronstad. Hopefully he can build on it. We've certainly seen worse, remember Ooijer, was it an own goal and a red in his first two? I said before the game we needed to see that Markanday and Leonard needed to show they could make the step up. Can't fault them there! Also said I hoped a full preseason with JDT and playing next to another more defensive mid would help Travis... One of our best players today. Very, very happy!
  11. I think pace is his problem for sure. The rest of his game is actually pretty good - he can pass, tackle, has decent on the ball technique - but he gets skinned if up against anyone with a bit of speed and opposition teams know it. I have been a bit of an advocate of playing him as a defensive mid, next to Travis, where he wont be as exposed. Problem is we don't really have a tested alternative at left back, just Batty who may or may not be ready or you're playing a right footed left back in Brittain.
  12. I'm also pretty interested to see what players like Travis, Pickering and Dolan look like after a full JDT pre-season, I think they were all players who struggled to adapt to the change in tactics and setup a bit last season. I think that having a player like Tronstad next to him may help Travis out too if it means he can share the covering of the back line a bit and not be pulled from side to side so much during the game. A lot of movement in attack when JRC gets forward too, Dolan and Markanday can both drift around a fair bit. I'll be honest, I'm expecting a loss here, but hopefully we'll see some good signs for the tactics going forward.
  13. Pears JRC Carter Hyam Pickering Travis Tronstad Markanday Szmodics Dolan Leonard Lot of pressure on that front line, need players to show they are ready to step up.
  14. If we aren't signing a ton more players we need Markanday to step up this season, might as well chuck him in and give him a chance.
  15. I guess shirt numbers are a bit meaningless these days, but I'd expect #15 to be given to someone first team adjacent. Smacks of the 'automatically assign numbers' button in football manager.
  16. Pat Gamble given senior shirt no. 15, seems unusual for a player who hasn't made a first team appearance yet. How close to the first team squad does he look? I don't get to watch the u21s very often living down on the south coast.
  17. Russo is playing like a striker who needs a goal, she's letting herself get pulled out of position chasing things she shouldn't be chasing. Against Haiti she got in the way of other players a couple of times rather than taking a position for a pass or to close down a rebound. I think if she scores one she'll relax a bit and get more.
  18. All the players who can make a bit of time for the team are getting injured... Williamson, Mead and now Walsh. You need those players. Also, I know she scored the winner at the euros but Kelly just isn't very good - she's got some speed but the vision, end product and decision making just isn't there.
  19. Leah Williamson is such a massive loss, our defence is so much shakier without her - Jess Carter keeps pushing up, missing the interception and leaving us open at the back.
  20. Not my cup of tea on first viewing, but I can see it possibly growing on me once I've got used to the slightly odd collar. For what it's worth the online store has stock in small to large right now, so I'm not sure what happened earlier - I can at least add a shirt to my cart. Also noticed that if you want to get a player name on the back it's £12, but if you want Rankin Costello its £15, which made me chuckle. edit- and whoever Ogrady Macken is will run you £13! One whole extra pound over everyone else, must be a good prospect!
  21. I like the quote at the end about seeing other youngsters having a path into the first team being a strong motivating factor for the youth players.
