  1. Just to say thanks to everyone who has replied & those who fancy writing & recording a contribution...just let me know if you need any help re scriptwriting &/or recording...

My original plan was to have 1 memory per podcast but if everyone who has said they’ll do one actually does, we might have 2or 3 per episode or even a dedicated podcast specifically.

    Fingers crossed...??

I wish one of the old timers who has all the facts and figures would do a Pod of Rovers in the '60's, say up to our relegation from the First Division with a focus say on my first ever live match at Ewood, Rovers 7 Spurs 2  and the players in that superb team.

Sadly I don't have facilities out here to do it justice but one or 2 posters on here are better qualified anyway! :rover:, come on you know who you are :)

All you need is a laptop/smartphone/tablet; a Skype account & some spare time....I’ll gladly provide hints & tips ?

  3. *BUMPED* Please see end of thread for latest update...

I’ve had some interest expressed in having a regular recurring item  in podcasts of fans talking about their first Rovers memory....when, where, who, what happened, how did you feel etc. (I’d also consider Fave Rovers memory...especially if it avoided the obvious 1995...! )

I’ve got one in the can already and I’d love to have some more...anybody fancy contributing ?

Help writing &/or recording it is available as required....

    Anyone ? ?

65' - Save! A superb 30-yard drive from Dack draws a stop from Vickers in the Lincoln goal, before Williams volleys over from the resulting corner. 0-1. #Rovers

68' - Save! Vickers is there again, this time diving at Samuel's feet after the substitute had burst into the area. 0-1. #Rovers

We didnt start with at the back 3 at all. Back 4 of Lenihan Downing Wharton Bell

From what I saw, we did start 3-5-2...whether by accident or design. Rich Sharpe Tweeted that we were 4 at the back but the evidence of my eyes on the field was 3 CBs with Bell left WB & Bennett right WB

  5. As part of a new podcast series - "Revisionist Rovers" - we look at different characters, eras and events from Blackburn Rovers history and bring fresh perspective.

In this, the first episode, we take a look back at the impact and legacy of Ken Furphy upon Blackburn Rovers, through the pen of Jim Wilkinson.

It should drop in iTunes feeds soon - but can also be accessed here :-

    New shirt is terrible.

    Basically not Rovers colours.

Anyone imagine Man U or Liverpool bringing out a new light red shirt ?

Someone should get fired.... apart from Cheston.

Have you seen this year’s Man Utd kit ? ?

Spotted on Facebook that even Birdy isn’t buying one - I’ve never, I repeat never in all the time I’ve known him not seen him in the new shirt.

Doesnt bode well for sales (though he may be riled that he wasn’t asked to do the launch campaign :D)

It’s virtually the same one that he launched for Nike FFS !!! ?

The new Norwich kit is... something

I actually think with a better sponsor it would transcend into one of those 'out there but I like it' shirts, but they've managed to get a giant sponsor in completely the wrong colours with a cat paw print in it, so we're into joke shirt territory.

It’s dreadful isn’t it ? A throwback to the Ribero “Bayern Munich away win”  paint splash kit but that sponsor ?

  9. I’m currently planning podcasts for 2018/19 season & I have been inspired by another podcast that I listen to, namely Malcolm Gladwell’s “Revisionist History”. In it, Gladwell takes a conventional idea or thought & looks at it more closely, from a different angle, usually challenging received wisdom.

I am therefore toying with the idea of a “Revisionist Rovers” item for future podcasts....

if anyone out there has an idea & would like to get involved - in other words is prepared to construct a case for what might be a left-field, unconventional or potentially even downright unpopular view & is prepared to come on the pod (in some format to be agreed) to present it, please get in touch.

I am NOT looking for deliberately contrarian, shock-jock positions e.g. “Alan Shearer was grossly overrated” will probably not pass muster, unless you are REALLY good at advocacy...?

The sort of thing I’m looking for would be, for instance (NB I don’t necessarily subscribe to any of these views for clarity...they are just to give you a flavour...?):

Zinedine Zidane would not have improved Rovers midfield had he signed in the 90’s

David Dunn should never have re-signed from Birmingham as he never fulfilled his potential

Sam Allardyce’s football was so ugly, Venky’s were correct to sack him

Signing Danny Murphy made sense at the time, knowing what we knew then

    ...hopefully you get the idea...!

Is there something in Rovers’ history that has always bugged you because you see it differently from most of your mates ? Do you carry an unpopular opinion around & have always wanted to unburden ? This might be your chance ?

The mechanics & logistics of how we will do it will be worked through once I know if we have enough contributors & good ideas to make it worthwhile. It could be an interview, it could be a first person piece, it could be a written article narrated by someone else if you don’t fancy sharing your dulcet tones....that can be worked through.

If you have an idea, please contact me by PM’ing me on here, or on Twitter using the @brfcs.com handle please....let’s see if we can create audio gold ?

Reassured? Don't you know Nixon getting this right (and any other reported signings even if seen as positive accquisitions) means Anderson's back in the fold? CONSTANT VIGILANCE!!! ?

His agent is Base Soccer Ltd who interestingly employ one Vince Grella....

  11. Rovers seem to be trying the budget airline pricing model. The aim is to keep s/t price increases low but start to charge for the additional items that were previously either free or not required. The 1875 club was always a stealth s/t price increase and frankly isn’t needed for any reason other than to raise income via the back door.

A football club’s membership is its season ticket holders. The fact that priority can be paid for rather than loyalty really sticks in my throat. The 1875 club was a transparent attempt at income generation by means other than raising s/t prices.

Charging more to buy your match ticket on the day....what on Earth is that all about ? We are not a rail operating company. Encourage people to attend, make walk ups easier, don’t discourage any potential fan.

Charging to go in a bar and selling one of the benefits as being able to watch the 2nd half in the bar - rather than you know, from your seat...seems perverse in the extreme.

It seems clear that Waggott has a mandate to raise turnover - I don’t have a problem with that, we need money to buy players, pay fees etc but it’s very interesting to compare and contrast with the style and approach of Andy Holt at Stanley who makes it plain that ripping off the fans is at best a short-term option.

Some strategic thinking wouldn’t go amiss here...
