  1. Blimey, how did Tony Gale get in ahead of David Mail! Anyway despite my bleatings for Hendry, I've gone for Kev.....Kev.....Kev.....Kev.....Kevin Moran.
  2. I don't think that's the case Glenn. We just feel we're not in a position to vote against someone who embodied Rovers and was in fact a magnificent centre half, against Mike England. It would be easier if Hendry was a marginal choice and England didn't have this type of competition. However against such a superb centre half as Hendry, those that watched him every week just can't vote against him. Sorry
  3. Absolutely. As well as "Killer" I'd like to add a quick mention for David Mail as well. He was one of the archetypal second division centre halves. His distribution was poor, he'd hoof it at the first given opportunity and wasn't really a crowd favourite but every time he didn't play due to injury we'd concede goals. He often went unnoticed but as soon as he was paired with either Killer or Faz we looked secure. He's not a great but was great in his time. Also I agree with Trooper. We should keep it as a 4-4-2 because as I understand it, probably since Alf Ramsey made it fashionable, we've pretty much played this formation. Recent managers often tried 3-5-2 but never to any success. 4-4-2 is Rovers so we should keep it this way.
  4. Yep, you're right on both points
  5. ...and Matty on the left didn't work either
  6. Then the whole thing is a waste of time. Yes, you're right. Otherwise the 1884 to 1886 team that won the FA Cup three years in a row would be nailed on choices. Hang on, none of that squad have appeared as nominations yet. I wonder why that is?
  7. Unbelieveable. If ability were the only criteria (or longevity, or loyalty, or honesty, or character), Le Saux would be bottom of the list and Newton and Eckersley near the top of it. Le Saux's lead in this vote is a farce and makes the whole exercise a waste of time. Unfortunately Jim, most people share my opinion that you can only vote for people you've seen play. A large proportion of the members on this board are below thirty years. Despite the favourable write-up's from older family members and history books, how could I vote for Newton or Eckersley having never watched them play. Le Saux was, at his Rover's playing peak, arguably the best left back in the league, playing for a very successful team and performing well as a regular for England. I can't see how he could be near the bottom of this list.
  8. I'm sure Arsenal and Chelsea would have something to say about that though
  9. Waste of time. They have no pride or feelings for the town (or the country for that matter but that's for another thread).
  10. 1st choice was Dowie, Hughes was a very close second so overall I'm happy.
  11. That sounds good but with the developments at Everton and the Sunday papers I'd have thought that Dowie would be in rather than Moyes.
  12. My thoughts exactly. I think we should remember that there's two, arguably equally prestigious, positions up for grabs at the moment. Let's just hope we're not in competition for our first choices with them.
  13. Mate, the board understand football, they'll never appointment someone that bad. We should put our trust in JW as he knows what he's doing.
  14. err....Dickov. Who do you reckon will score more goals this season?
  15. It's strange all this speculation. To me it seems quite obvious that in reality, we should try for Strachan, Hughes, Moyes and Dowie. Anyone other than these (OK I'll be generous and add Jewell) will be a complete let down.
  16. Yeah becasue he was so good the last time Just don't let be Glenn Hoddle.
  17. Strachan - Perhaps but he wanted a break from football and it maybe too soon for him. Hughes - Possibly Coleman - Can't see it the Dalglish/Shearer combination - As much I'd like it, I can't see this either. For good or for worse I can see an up and coming manager who has been successful in the lower leagues, such as Sturrock or Mike Newell, getting it. This is always a risk though. Personally I'd like Bobby Robson but at the moment no-one really stands out as a favourite.
  18. Not many things in football surprise me any more but that has. I really didn't see that coming!
  19. Chris Price for me. He was certainly the most attacking full back I've seen and as a result used to score loads of goals for a right back. I also remember us being defensively sound with him in the team as well so he gets my vote, although he didn't have quite the same impact when he came back for the second spell.
  20. Spoil sport. There's no need to add any light-hearted humour in what is already destined to be nice relaxing, stress-free season
  21. Can't see a link to this story anywhere. It's a damn shame. Rovers to allow Jansen exit
