  1. I'm not suggesting we should have another vote Den just make up a team of the next highest vote on the current selections for each position. Just to make an interesting comparison. Have I made myself clear? I'm beginning to confuse myself now.
  2. Best suggestion to date Den. I would certainly go with that. Would it be interesting to choose a reserve team of all those who just missed out on the first team? Might make an interesting comparison.
  3. Any comments?[/b] They're streets ahead. Elect them both and lets get on with it before we all start arguing who was left or right footed etc. Another vote will only result in confusion. I'm in full agreement here. Another vote would be a foregone conclusion and a waste of time. Unless of course there are some mischief votes from the Oiks who do not want Majestic Mike to be included.
  4. The man is class. He ran the midfield yesterday and is superb at arriving late ito the box. Excellent finisher. Do you watch the same match as the rest of us?
  5. Oiks lead but it seems that the correct two will be elected albeit in the wrong order.
  6. Not surprised. Mike was feared by Burnley in every game he played against them. They hated him because they had no answer to his heading ability in their area.
  7. Billy, I too am privileged to have watched Matt Woods and Willie (iron man) Kelly and wholehartedly agree with your comments. However I also agree that they come 3rd & 4th in the all time greats centre halves to Mike England and Colin Hendry.
  8. The crime is not being young but being blinkered to anything that you did not personally witness. Having said that Hendry would be my second center half.
  9. I'm already sick of the commentators waxing lyrical at his every touch. Yes he is a great player at 18 but there is something about his build that worries me. I think that he is going to have great difficulty controlling his weight in his mid twenties. We will see.
  10. Great post Den. You put it much better than I did. However neither of us mentioned that as well as all his other attributes Mike was fast as well. England and Hendry for me. Practically unbeatable as a pair.
  11. Mike England was the classiest central defender I have ever seen. I watched him start in the youth cup winning team that produced Fred Pickering, Mike and I believe Keith Newton as well. From the start he oozed class and very quickly established himself in the first team. Brilliant in the air and with instant control with his feet he could also mix it with the hard men if required. He also scored a lot of goals, particularly against Burnley. In other words he was the complete centre half without any obvious faults. Having said all that how can we leave out Big Col? Come on Den it has to be 4-4-2. Having accepted Le Saux at left back you could never play him in a back three. His strength is going forward.
  12. That's true, but I still think Jansen did ok yesterday. Jansen for Stead for me. Stead has been crap this season. He has been sussed and needs to be rested for a while.
  13. Yeah but maybe why you did not vote for Johnny Forbes Al! Anyway I should think that 50 votes (at this point in time) over 40 years after he finished playing is one hell of a compliment to the man, and one that he would prob be overjoyed with. I doubt Le saux will receive as many votes 40 odd years from now. Sorry for not replying earlier but when I made that post I was on holiday using a very expensive internet cafe. I was down to the last two minutes of my last euro coin and the wife was dragging me away (hence the poor spelling). To answer your question I did not vote for John Forbes because nobody presented a case for him and all that I knew about him was that he used to have a sports shop in Blackburn. Probably the same reason that nobody else did either. Le Saux on the other hand disgraced us in Moscow, left under a cloud and I remember when playing for England after he left was being presented to Jack Straw. Jack asked him 'Do you miss Blackburn?' The reply was 'Certainly not the football'. I would certainly not want the little snide in any all time greats that I was associated with, ability or no ability. I am sure that Bill would be well satisfied with his 50 odd votes but if you don't believe that Le Saux will command many votes in the future why vote for him now?
  14. Graham Le Saux beating Bill Eckersley is an absolute disgrace and apoor reflection of the members of this board if they cannot appreciate p[layers who they have not seen. Le saux let the club down on many occasions and does not deserve mention.
  15. Greetings from Lanzarote. Good win I must go away more often!
  16. I won't be at the match on Saturday because I am going to Lanzarote tomorrow. But then I was on holiday when we won the cup at Cardiff. Is this a good omen?
  17. Have you read all of this thread? I have already put a case for Bill much earlier. It is not Bill's fault or even mine that by an accident of birth you were not priviliged enough too have seen him play. Just read what we who have have to say. We have seen him and all the subsequent left backs and we know what we are talking about. Second to him I would put Le Saux and Bailey but by a long way.
  18. Bill (Telescopic Leg) Eckersley for me. Bill had a long run as England left back despite playing for a 2nd division team (Rovers). Extremely loyal (He could have had his pick of the 1st division teams but chose to stick with Rovers) and was way before his time with his ability to dribble all the way up to the opposition penalty area. Superb ball control and his party piece was that if a player went past him he could extend his left leg behind him and nick the ball away, clean as a whistle, leaving the other player looking around him wondering where the hell the ball had gone. This earned him the 'telescopic leg' tag. Very entertaining to watch and a dependable full back. Has my vote every time.
  19. No moans at all. Not only is this the best Rovers site by a country mile, it is also THE best football site. Posters on here are generally articulate and whilst we do not necessarily agree with one another, everyone seems to be able to explain their point of view so that the reader can understand where they are coming from. I have been on all of the Rovers sites and believe me when I tell you that this is the best run of the lot. The thinking man's site!
  20. My fear is that he will try to poach Ferguson. I hope not because he is the only class player we have.
  21. Gordon Strachan for me. Mr Dynamite and I can't wait for the quotes.
  22. Rik, please NO TEXT SPEAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't think he's using text speak. He just can't spell! Maybe we will have to put up with it!
  23. I never saw Bob Crompton play, even at my age, and we all know that statistics alone tell us nothing. In those days there was only one centre back and the full backs were purely defenders much like the modern three at the back centre halves system. Keith Newton on the other hand, whose whole career I have witnessed (apart from at Burnley which I would like to forget because by that time he was a spent force) was strong, fast and dependable in defence and a real force in attack. Even chipped in with a few goals. Probably one of the best attacking full backs ever to play for England too. For these reasons I nominate Keith Newton for my vote. He was the absolute epitome of what a full back should be, even back when he was in the youth cup winning side that produced so many great internationals.
  24. I don't like most of your posts Jim but I do appreciate this one.
