It's amazing that some posters are happy with a Dutch player to replace Nyambe who, up until a few hours ago had never heard of. We are in our strongest position for years and could be on the verge of losing several key players and replacing them with players nobody knows. Besides that will Zeefuik even qualify for a work permit?

Only in the world of Venkys.

I agree if Nyambe goes this window. But if we do bring in the Dutch lad as competition to the end of the season, whats the harm in taking a look especially if Nyambe walks at the end of the season.

That squad was bigger, better. We were actually a fancied side in the promotion chase. What we have now is a thin squad who time will tell but may well be performing a fair bit above themselves at the moment, with a manager prone to an extended death spiral. I feel our momentum is much more vulnerable than it was back then.

At this stage in that season we were starting to pick up speed but at the beginning of December we were mid table. Generally though the FA cup was held in higher esteem so managers tended to field stronger teams than now.

I agree that this season's momentum is much more vulnerable than then.

We haven't seen anything of this guy, whereas we know for certain Nyambe is the real deal.

I would far rather pay Nyambe what he wants.

And, what's the betting if Nyambe departs in January, this guy follows in summer leaving us without a RB.

Except for the Irish gezza who signed yesterday......and JRC?

Nyambe's worth far more than 8k p.w. imo.

IF that's all he's asking for we should have snapped his hand off at the elbow from the outset.

I would have thought they all want approximate parity with our top earners, and looking at their contributions on the pitch it's hard to make a case they shouldn't get it.

The key thing from the Club's point of view is, could we replace them with similar quality for less than the cost of offering them improved deals?

    I'd say clearly not.

I was using JH Rovers figures to maintain a constant. I unlike many on here dont claim to be in the know on wages. I agree they all would like parity with top earners but some have to realise that this is not a factory where all on the same payscale.

It comes down to this - lets say Nyambe is currently on £4000 per week (this is the figure I've heard from a few people, and probably about what I would expect him to be on)

He might be expecting to go to £8000 a week (this might be a very reasonable demand given the wages of others at the club and he and his agent won't be making that demand on a whim - they will know what he can get elsewhere. He's not going to turn down a good offer to gamble on someone picking him up and offering him more.

We 'might' have offered him £5000 a week - a 25% increase on his current wage plus other perks. To someone like Waggott that probably represents an excellent offer and indeed to most people in the real world would jump at such an increase. But it isn't enough - not when the likes of Ayala are on £15,000 a week and barely play.

So a 25% increase is strictly speaking a good substantial increase on offer - but still not remotely enough for what an established player would expect. That doesn't mean that Nyambe is 'holding the club to ransom'' for demanding £25k per week - just like Bauer wasn't ever demanding £40,000 a week to leave Charlton. It is nonsense.

Brereton is another one that could have been sorted last summer and an extension awarded - now quite rightly there's little chance of him staying. Last summer he only had 12 months remaining on his deal - the time for renewing had already long passed.

I agree in theory with what you say and you are probably in the ball park. But on the other side of it is that Rovers, using your figures, could be offering £8,000/week for Nyambe but his agent could be looking for things such as image rights, loyalty bonus or signing on fees which maybe the difference in the two parties.

  6. Actually think the new system we play doesn't help Nyambe. As many point out his final ball isn't the greatest maybe wing back doesn't suit his style but as Tyronne points out his heading ability limits his chances as the Right side of the three.

I actually think you'd see a better final ball from Nyambe if we got a greater number in the box so yes a better team may help him improve him.

When he was fit? Really not that many. Most of the games that he hasn't started since the L1 season have been down to injury. When he's been fit, he has generally played. I know the spell when Bennett played there got a lot of people's back up, and I didn't agree with it either, but in the greater scheme of things it was barely more than a handful of games when he was still establishing himself at this level.

The idea that Nyambe is leaving because he has the hump about not playing for a few games over a year ago just doesn't seem to stack up for me I'm afraid.

It wasn't just when he wasn't playing. Even when he was playing and playing well. He would be the one sacrificed and players moved. Remember even Sam Gallagher got switched there instead of him.

Surely the £10m that Everton have just paid Rangers for the young Scottish lad which be a much fairer reflection of Nyambe's true value had we not mishandled his contractual situation.

If that was the case surely Everton would have bought him rather than the Rangers Full back. I havent seen the ex-Rangers player so dont know if it is a true reflection but I'm also unaware of his Championship experience which is what I asked.

Yes.  Problem is that JRC hasn't shown anything remotely looking like a top 6 Championship player even against kids.  He should find another club if he can

Dont know that. He never stays fit long enough for many of us to get a true judgement. Isnt he another Manchester schoolboy that you dont have a high regard for?

Whether he would or would not have played Rankin Costello is a total unknown and hypothetical. The fact is that Nyambe has played consistently now as first choice for a while and to be honest throughout Mowbrays tenure he has trusted him enough to only sign Paul Caddis as another right back that I recall, instead choosing versatile players already at his disposal to compete with Nyambe.

With Rothwell he often has been very inconsistent and has actually matured when trusted in a deeper role that I doubt many if any of us would have suggested. Both have grown and become more consistent over time into much better and more complete players under Mowbray to become key assets of a team 2nd in the table. Plus according to Waggott both (and Lenihan) have been in discussions with the club that have stalled with us offering as much we can, they wouldnt entertain the idea if the manager was the sticking point.

He may of only signed Caddis but how many other players have played at Right Back? Last season he played an ageing player who only played  as he was club captain there instead of Nyambe. Rankin-Costello played there until he broke his toe last season as well so I think there is history there. Ive sat behind Mowbray several times and the way he used to whinge at Nyambe was unbelievable.

All this whilst Nyambe's contract negotiations are on going so Im not surprised he hasnt signed.

The only reason £3m might be considered reasonable is that our management have negligently allowed his contract to run down.

And other Clubs aren't going to let us have a comparable player on the cheap out of the kindness of their heart because we've cocked up!

I dont see many Championship Full Backs going for £3 million especially with so little contract. £3 million is a good return if true.

He has played consistently for the last couple of years now, there is nothing to suggest that he is potentially leaving because of Mowbray.

IMO if JRC had stayed fit I dont think Nyambe would have played this season, so I still think that its beyond coincidence that two of the three are players that many on here feel that Mowbray used as scapegoats in previous seasons. Damage already done.

As many of us have always said, it is no surprise that Nyambe is performing so well with a decent run of games under his belt.

TM has made it clear that he isn't his biggest fan, and my view is that this is at least part of the reason he hasn't signed a new contract. Are we even sure he has been offered an improved contract?

I will be personally devastated if he leaves. I really don't think he warrants any of the criticism aimed at him. He is more instrumental in our recent run than many of us realise.

This will only become clear when he leaves.

£3m in our current stable situation would be a joke (yes, I know it is currently an unfounded rumour).

£3million for someone walking for free in a couple of months is not a joke. A shame yes.
