Personally I think that Sam Burns could do the things you just explained, far better than Dolan. But neither is at a level to be starting championship games.

I cant comment about Burns having not seen him but all Im saying against curtain teams a headless chicken upfront can be effective. Oddly a large number of Rovers fans seem to prefer this type of player compared to a more skilled one who chooses how they spend their energy.

Would you like to see Dolan playing there again then , like today for example ?

To be fair Dolan playing as a false 9 can work well when applying high press. Times last season Dolan being the front man meant his high energy meant he chased down everything from pass backs to teams playing across the back four. When Buckley played as the link play between midfield and forward who also chased down meant we recovered the ball higher up the pitch.

The problem is with Dolan is what he did once he gets the ball or when we are playing from the back. He cant hold the ball or have the ability to win a free kick

Was he their #17? Lanky pos that was upfront taking our players out late?

He'll have been disappointed with what he saw if so.

Delap was No.17. Why would he be disappointed? He occupied both central defenders most of the game allowing others space, especially in the first half.

He was key to their first half performance which should have them 3 or 4 up ay half time.

Wouldn’t want to share my innermost secrets with Barry Fry. He’s got a bigger mouth than the Thames Estuary.

Doesn’t want to lose his best players but shopping them like Black Friday.

He always has done.  He kept using us when flogging Collymore years ago saying we'd bid millions for him.

Everyone is delighted with the “green shoots” of the last week or so.

Pointing out the negatives, or as I say highlighting things that can be improved is important to growth.

Just being happy with a bit of good news and positivity whilst ignoring everything else is a recipe for disaster in the long term and it’s no good having  a good manager and football with no fans in the ground.

sustainability and growth requires constant improvement. If no one highlights or pushes for better in all aspects of the club then we will never prosper .

    Food for thought

In deed it is valid point but this is the JDT thread but please tell me what influence has he on season ticket prices or how effective Waggot is?

Sustainibility is a pont that has already been talked by JDT.

I would say on here the news of jdt has been met with almost universal positivity. I know I’m in the minority when I say I don’t share the optimism.

He’s still in the very early stages of his managerial career so is an unknown quantity (can his achievements in Sweden be taken too seriously as doing well at Malmö seem to be the equivalent of succeeding at the old firm in Scotland, a 50:50).

He comes with an unquestioned reputation as a player but I personally think it’ll go the way of Philip cocu at derby who arrived with a similar playing pedigree and to a similar fanfare there. Or if in hindsight this guy ultimately turns out to be the real deal as a manager then the Venkys will see to it that he’ll fail at rovers. After 12 years of the Venkys and the clowns they appoint how could I possibly believe anything will be any different.

That said with all that in mind and before a signing has been made or a ball is kicked in anger, am I happy he’s here? Yes I am. He’s already been a breath of fresh air. He has charisma and he couldn’t be further removed from Moggadon in that respect. In the world of the Venkys Blackburn Rovers disaster is never far away.

Hands up to being one of the main culprits on that score!

On the appointments I’ve not seen such positivity on here for a looonngg time.

Perhaps the mods could move the important but not particularly relevant to this thread ticket discussions to the ST thread?

I see the common theme here......is it because youre called Matt why you are so negative?

I know he is an unknown quantity and we have had false dawns before but lets live in hope rather than fear!!!

Yes the club still has its faults but surely there are other threads we can be negative on.

Lets have one positive one for a time.......granted it may not last long.

I’ve been saying it for years Jim. Name me one of his signings that opponents wouldn’t want to play against because of their physicality.

Maybe Smallwood, Van Hecke can hold his own,  then you’ve said it.

Johnson is a hardman.......its just he hasn't had the legs since he joined.

TRavis isn;t hard....he's petulent a bit like Savage. He'll start a fight but then hide behind his minders

Rich also took forever to tell us about Zeefuik and Giles, and even denied our interest in Markanday at one point. Ignore him.

If darrenrover has heard what I've heard, he's right. They'd be legit statements in this league BUT I hasten to add that I don't think either is actually likely to happen personally.

Bit naughty that......come on Mike name names

Best signing we could make is Rothwell on a new 2/3 year deal, if he's not worth breaking the current 'wage structure' for then I don't know who is!! all the others on expiring contracts are replaceable, but players with his attributes are few and far between outside of the prem. (and he's one of the few players in the squad that could probably make the step up to prem standard if we got promoted)

Rather a short term contract is 8 months
