  1. I dont think I have ever witnessed a Rovers manager make 3 subs at once in my life (granted the 3 subs rule has not been in long)

To me it proved the manager select the wrong tea m, again !!!

Now , I think he is ' losing the plot ' danger is when will our owners realize ? and who will be his replacement ??

The defence is a complete joke , it is non existent , call me old fashioned but defenders are there to stop the  opponents scoring ,,

    Brannagan , Keeley , Fazackerley , Rathbone

AS hard as nails all of them !!

It might have helped us to take those chances if our top two goal scorers had played. Instead the front 3 consisted of Armstrong 4 League goals, Conway 0 League goals and Brereton 0 league goals. Whereas on the bench we had Dack 11 League goals and Graham 10 League goals. Do you not think if one or both of those had been selected that we would have been far more likely to take one of those chances?

    Fair point !!

Firstly, the 'referee' was appalling, called it after the opening kick off was restarted and he didn't disappoint.

To not send off Travis for a 'stone wall' 2nd yellow was poor enough (but helped us), but that doesn't mean he has to allow the next 'stone wall' 2nd yellow card challenge to go unpunished... The obvious corner at the end was the icing on the cake to go along with Frank "I'm gonna hold this ball for 18-20 seconds" Fielding.

Fundamentally... Mowbray is showing a severe lack of ambition, tactical awareness and blind loyalty to L1 players. We were poor today and much of it is the manager refusing to put our 11 best players on the pitch together in their right position.

Is this £3 Tony Mowbray '?? fest' also a Q&A? Hope so.

I agree with the above !

A back 4 with the awful Williams and three midfielders in it.  League 1 holding midfielder and a young lad looking leggy in the middle of the park.....easy as fuck for Bristol.

Bells forward running was missing today. William's stays back and this leaves them a spare man wide.  Bell gets the opposition thinking of running back. Tony picking these suggests he's taking the piss and spinning the job out

It wasn't easy for Bristol ....It was a dour game with very few chances , won by them with a set piece ...

    Points wise we were.

We were on a 4 game winning run, momentum was with us and a couple of players (money was available we're led to believe) could've really pushed us on. If we'd won our last 2 (which is not inconceivable given our prior form) we'd be 7th now, 1 point from the playoffs. Chance not taken for me...yet while we all celebrate being safe in the 2nd tier Mowbray will be happy to meander on.

True to a point but we had just won 4 on the bounce after losing 3....

Bristol have won 6 on bounce but I will be amazed if they make the Play offs ...Cos they are not good enough to keep that form up !!

The only season we've been truly competitive (outside of last season) is Bowyer's first season where we only missed out on the playoffs by a point or two. We basically choked at the end of the season and that was that. We all remember that draw with Yeovil. The next season we were finished by February, and after that things slowly got worse until the inevitable relegation.

That's true but Bowyer was the problem !!!!

Should have got at least play offs that season..

The decision not to strengthen key areas in January is looking more and more odd game by game. I read consolidation is the aim but surely if you're within touching distance of success (especially with no stand out teams at this level)  you should aim as high as possible.

Personally, I think TM is happy with what he's got and is frightened to death of high expectations which would come within the territory of spending a few quid.

I disagree , we were not within touching distance !!!

We lack a physicality in defence and pace up front ...

Poor game today ,Bristol looked solid at the back but offered little up front ....Got a set piece with 13 mins to go and won , could very easily have happened to us !!

Sheffield United doing a Rovers by throwing away a seemingly unassailable lead. The game was littered with individual errors which made for good viewing.

It certainly did , could cast a giant shadow over Sheffield United for the rest of the season ..

Sharpe great poacher but what happens if he dries up ???

Not a lot else up front , nice to see Henderson playing the clown and a few arguments in dressing to follow !!!

    Couldn't happen to a nicer club !!

Do you think it would take 4-5 players to make up our 4 (potentially 7) point gap? 4-5 fairly average to decent ones maybe, but I'd say just one quality player in the right area (I'd say defence given our weakness there) could do the job.

A modern day Colin Hendry or Mike Newell would do it ...

Not sure I can bear to read through the thread, so apologies if I'm repeating or going over trodden ground.

Well... it was at least an interesting game. I'd say the first 15 minutes was more Brentford playing awful than us being particularly good and everything from about 40min on was more Brentford playing some incredible football than us being particularly crap... Have to tip your cap to that Mapauy-Benrahma combination. They were immense. I noticed beforehand Brentford's oddly low in the table for having a positive goal difference. Forget the exact numbers, but it was something like 8 of their 10 wins (9 of 11 now?) are by 2+ goals, while pretty much all of their losses have been by 1 goal. Perhaps they've been having moments of madness like the first 15mins too often.

    Nevertheless, obviously a disheartening game.

Bennett's showing he can handle RB against less technically skilled squads, but he got lit up today. His enthusiastic tackles looked amateurish rather than brave/aggressive. Hope Nyambe's fully fit soon.

Evans had his first poor game in awhile. Travis showed his usual enthusiasm and was alright overall, but (in a soft voice not upset anyone too much) he's starting to show that he's not the most technically gifted of footballers...

Armstrong had a few bright spots, but seemed to tire by the end. Shame about the forced subs.

It was hard to see clearly from the away end, but I thought Brereton was our only real bright light when he came on. Promising, I thought. Conway was a pretty poor sub given the game was obviously starting to pass us by at the time. He may add veteran 'nous', but we needed someone who could run... I'm guessing many were calling for Rothwell instead, but dare I suggest Smallwood would've been a better bet at holding the fort?

Nuttall... threw himself about a bit, but his play with the ball at his feet can be downright pathetic...

Having contemplated for 5 hours in a Richmond bar , the game really tilted on who scored the 4th goal.....Graham and Dack going off did  not help the situation !!! Brentford to be fair were no mugs going forward ....

He's not saying they are on the same level. I have a little respect for Mowbray but his achievements are increase ten fold because he's liked. Not because what he's done is some miracle.

There's a lot of managers out there who fail left right and centre but have long careers because they know the right people or have the right reputation. Steve McLaren is one of them and I honestly do not rate our manager as highly as some do.

Best budget in league 1, with Danny Graham, Bradley Dack and Charlie Mulgrew who was also a Scotland international along with a few others. Finish 2nd and that looked in doubt for a while before the obvious clicked and he started playing effective football. Which many on here at the time stated.

This year, he's had over 10 million to spend so expectations go up. It's inevitable and unreasonable to state otherwise especially from a manager who keeps saying we are building slowly yet doesn't seem to want to buy anyone this window. Another thing I don't agree with.

When you look at the players you say he's assembled together, who in the team did he bring in? Armstrong, Smallwood, Dack and sometimes Bell along with Reed as a right winger.

Now look at how many he's signed. Whittingham, Gladwin, Hart, Caddis, Davenport, Rothwell, Chapman and the list goes on. Many on here could name more.

I'm afraid you have your blinders on when it comes to this manager all because he's nice and slightly stable. He will never get us up as he is not good enough. Prove me otherwise I'd say and give reasons why what I've said is a load of rubbish.

I agree with some of your points , when we got relegated (we got relegated with a lot of points). Who would have done better than automatic promotion and 10th by January 26th in championship ????

Paul Cook is and was God with some on here , have a look at the table!!!
