Dreadful defending for all three goals. Rodwell's attempt at closing down the first was Lowe-esque. Mulgrew just trundling about for the 2nd. They just all gave up for the 3rd.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but Lenihan going was not good news !!

We are  missing a big physical centre half and he is the nearest thing we have ...

Similar in a lot of ways. Particularly when it comes to overrating the ability of the squad and underestimating the knowledge and experience needed to get the best out of limited players.

The main difference is that we had no idea how Venky's would act as owners. Ipswich fans knew full well that Evans wasn't going to invest any more than he had done previously, and that outside of Mick he had a pretty poor track record of selecting managers. I think a lot of them became complacent, thinking that keeping a club in this division was no big deal and even if the new manager turned out to be a dud at worst they'd be lower mid-table again. Alarm bells would have been ringing for me the moment Hurst came out with his line about the Championship and League 1 not being any different, whilst publicly berating the existing players at the club before the season had even started. He was clearly out of his depth from day one and the only question is how long Evans is willing to play the waiting game before realising he has no choice but to twist again and hope somebody is available to get what is a very poor team out of trouble on little to no budget. Good luck with that.

Hurst had a good half a season at Shrewsbury , results in 2018 were nothing to write home about .........The fans are getting what they deserve for hounding MC Carthy out !!!

Worryingly Palmer hasn't looked very effective yet either, but I agree he probably should come back into the team. We need some pace in the team if we're going to play so defensively, especially without Nyambe bombing down the wing from right back. We moved at a glacial pace going forward against Sheff Utd and that meant they knew they could throw men forward as we were never going to catch them out on the counter. They overloaded the final third as a result and it was a matter of time until we cracked under the pressure. I don't expect Bolton to threaten us in the same way, but if both teams are defensive and slow to move it could become a very turgid affair.

If it is not a very turgid affair , I will be astounded !!

It sounds like get at Tony night but imo the way he is currently handling Brereton is bound to be sapping his confidence. For a Club the size of ours if we spend £7m on a player he should be straight into the team in his normal position and should be an automatic selection unless and until he's proven after a decent run of games he's not up to it.

It's no use sticking him on the bench and giving him the odd cameo role for 20 minutes out of position on the wing or only bringing him on when something happens to Graham which again is going to do nothing whatsoever to boost his confidence.

I think he may have done but Graham has played very since his signing and has proved difficult to drop !!

Someone will be looking over the small print.

He looks like a player weighed down by expectation at the minute. I don’t think being an impact sub suits him as he is immediately under pressure. He needs a few goes at starting and being allowed to feel his way into a game. He doesn’t seem particularly quick or strong and a point blank header today’s didn’t even force a save from the keeper. It came at him quickly but this is what £6m or £7m brings with it. You need to be better than average.

I couldn’t see a goal coming from anywhere tonight and Armstrong looks to be struggling too.

The big disappointment tonight was Dack. I’d hate to call us a one man team but when Dack doesnt perform we look like a team with plenty of effort but no end product. Rothwell is about the next best option and Mowbray won’t play him.

    Labore et Labore.

We were beaten by a better drilled, stronger, fitter side.

Your last sentence sums it all up for me , we were like little lads ... Sheffield were a very big strong team , very well drilled defensively ....

Rovers are a small team and there is  a distinct lack of physicality in the team...

Harrison Reed might sound like an estate agency but boy that kid should be snapped up if possible. No wonder the Norwich fans wanted him back this season. he is 23 now and if he is not getting first team action at Southampton he should be looking to move on - to US.

Been very impressed with him and he fits the ethos that TM wants - works hard.

Is he here all season ??

    Grayson/Moyes for Preston.

Allardyce Stoke/Villa (whoever pulls the trigger 1st).  Followed by Pardew.

    Lambert Ipswich.

I think Rowett and Bruce are the most in peril , not sure Big Sam would go into Championship but Villa could be persuasive !

The other 2 will get a bit more time , probably til November internationals ..

Bruce or Rowett could go today !

Villa would an ideal job for Dyche ..
