We have to get away from this 2 holding midfielder nonsense. Neither have pace, both turn like a barge, and neither are playmakers. We just cannot play them there together. For me it has to be reed and either Rodwell or Bennett alongside at least then we'll have Box to Box and some playmaking ability in the middle.

How Rothwell doesn't start is beyond me too.

The relegation thread will be open soon with Boro, Norwich, Leeds and Sheff Utd to play in December

Bennett in midfield provides energy , Reed at West Bromwich was Battyesque...

You can count the good first halves under Mowbray on one hand it really is annoying now and when you get up against a strong side we struggle from the first min with the approach we have.

Was the same last season but Rovers were mostly strong enough to weather it or grow into it and hit back if behind, think that'll prove rather hard over this season.

We have a soft under belly and teams have found out !

Its very true that points even themselves out but it still does not take away from what we missed out on today. Still - we are decently placed in a very crazy division. Dropped points for sure and we could have been in the playoffs (should be really).

Eager to see what business we do in January. Also hope that Reeds injury is not too serious (doubt it is or he would have been straight off)

No doubt about the Division being crazy , more or less impossible to predict results ..

    From today’s Times:

Burnley’s attempts to appoint a technical director to support manager Sean Dyche are being hampered by the reluctance of several candidates to spend much time in the town.

The club want the new appointment to spend three days a week working between Turf Moor and their Gawthorpe Hall training ground but several candidates have indicated that they would prefer just two days a week in Burnley, plus match days.

Why do Burnley want a technical director ????

Can see this causing problems with Dyche ...What does the job entail ?

I felt like he forced them into a choice with a very impressive late run last season, but they were already down at that point and therefore it was never going to be a fair representation as to how they would do over the course of a season.

He has Gayle, the best goalscorer in the league I would suggest, as well as players like Rodriguez and Harvey Barnes, so they will always score goals. Its the other end thats the problem, he spent decent money on Bartley who is a no-nonsense centre back at this level, but his tactics involved playing Hegazi, Bartley and Dawson, all 3 similar defenders who arent very good on the ball, playing in a way that leaves them exposed, especially with Matty Phillips as a wing back.

Moore has been surprisingly reluctant to blood any youngsters, being overly loyal to many players who are past their best. Chris Brunt is never a Championship central midfielder anymore in a million years, yet he is often paired with the also immobile Livermore and at times Morrison. They have some talented young players, Oli Burke and Sam Field that have barely been used, and signings like Hoolahan seem pointless and desperate.

I'd personally be surprised if he lasts the season.

And @Waggy76 I believe Nick Powell is injured.

That's him , totally forgotten his name !!

I wonder how long before Big Sam gets the call to do his usual job of saving a club from relegation - surely the likes of Cardiff, Huddersfield and Fulham must be searching for his number, perhaps the Clarets too.

I think only Fulham will be bothered if they get relegated ...Other 3 seem to be expecting it sometime soon .Don't discount Newcastle ,Palace and Southampton  out of the battle ....Will Dyche jump ship ?  But I cannot see Cardiff or Huddersfield staying up .

The Bowyer squad was significantly better than this one but Mowbray is a proper football manager.

Yes play-off slots are there for the taking and automatic promotion is if we have an exceptional January window through concertinaing the three window strategy into one.

No reason to assume we would not pick up PL loanee gems again next season; getting Reed signed is going to be a high priority Sparky please.

No there is no reason to assume Mowbray would be a nearly man

Bowyer was a poor manager , who should have done a lot better !
