He could bring Messi with him. -
Window closes 3rd February so his realisation might take a little longer.

The belief there’s only one way to play football is one of the (many) problems with the modern game. This includes the suggestion that a team setting up for a draw is some sort of sin. -
Szmodics signed a new contract late November ‘23 - as per @RevidgeBlue suggestion re Wharton, this was probably done with his sale value in mind.

As I posted earlier, we have around £20 million pound losses ‘available’ for 24/25. This includes the Wharton sale. It doesn’t include the Sammie sale nor the additional Raya money. The £1.8 million profit in 23/24 followed a £22.9 million profit on player sales - this equates to a pre player sale loss of £21.1 million. This suggests to me the ‘wriggle room’ equates to roughly the fee we received for Sammie + the Raya money (oh and the fee for Gallagher) Or as you said far more succinctly (😁) we’re nowhere near the FFP limits. -

22/23 losses = £20.8 million 23/24 profit = £1.8 million Loss ‘available’ for 2024/25 = £20 million (It isn’t quite that simple as the accounts will include expenses which aren’t counted for FFP) -

Just seen the highlights. What’s the rules on encroaching at penalties these days - is it play on if both teams do it? -

I think we’d all have taken six wins, two draws and two defeats from the last ten. That being said, a momentum shift is clearly needed very soon - Saturday sounds an ideal time to me… -

I have very little confidence we’ll sign anyone of note but SW said the opposite of this in the last fan forum (ie the system is not reliant on any individual). I expect they’ll have another excuse lined up though. -

I’d be surprised if no money at all is received up front but I guess it’s possible if you have really shit negotiators! Of course, as others have pointed out, it works both ways (we don’t, or shouldn’t!, be paying fees all in one go) so the club’s use of this as an argument for not spending money is flawed (I’m being polite!) -

Just to add to my earlier reply to @arbitro When a player is sold, any remaining book value is amortised. This makes it possible for an accounting loss to incur even when selling a player for a fee. (If the fee is lower than the remaining book value). -

I believe the frequency of instalments is whatever the two clubs agree (as part of the transfer negotiations) it should be. -

Most, if not all, football clubs use accrual accounting for revenue (income) - this means it appears in the accounts when it is ‘earned’ as against when it is actually paid to them. The other option ‘cash accounting’ would mean the fees appearing in the accounts ‘as and when’ they were received by a club. -

When we sign a player the transfer fee (plus agent fee etc) becomes that player’s book value and is shown as an asset on the balance sheet. That book value is then amortised (depreciated) over the term of the player’s contract - this annual figure is an expense and contributes towards the loss (or reduces the profit!) for that year. For example if the cost of the player was £1 million and he joined on a four year deal then the annual expense attributed to him would be £250,000 If a player signs a contract which extends his stay at the club then the depreciation figure is adjusted to take account of this. I hope that makes sense!
