I'm rather suprised at that. I've heard it's expensive.
-
Mitton hall / Freemasons / Northcote might be a touch expensive on that budget. Stanley House could be a good option. Spread Eagle at SAWLEY is very good too. Havent been for 9 months now but I was mightily impressed with the food on offer at the Plough at Wigglesworth. Lovely drive through Bolton by Bowland, reasonable price, excellent beer and very respectable wine, check opening times and offers .

Most of them are good. Dunno about Tiggys yet cos I haven't been (but I would not have recommended it under the previous owners) and neither would I recommend the rip off merchants (imo) at Yu and You's. What type of food do you want? What do you want to spend on food per head (leave drinks out). Would you rather be closer to Clitheroe or too BAE?

Always is good quality imo. However until recently they used to maintain a peculiar balance between the restaurant menu and the pub menu. Strange cos both were made in the same kitchen by the same chef's but the menu's were only slightly different whilst the prices were quite significantly different. In a nutshell restaurant quality food at restaurant prices in one room with restaurant food at pub prices in the next! Also back then one could book a table in the restaurant but not in the pub which operated a queueing system. The end result was the restaurant seemed to tick over and rely on functions whilst the pub was nearly always mobbed. Unfortunately they have had a significant spend on the dining area recently and merged the two into one and I feel they are now 'cashing in' on their popularity by pricing somewhere in the middle instead of adapting to the formula that worked best. Dining in the Millstones since the revamp now seems a taj expensive and with so many wannabee Millstones in the area they need to exercise caution.

I seem to rem Tiggi's proper best days being in the 80's rog.

Tiggy's has been resurrected on Longsight Road I see. Anybody been yet?

That Little Elephant in Darwen was my fave Thai restauarant. Unfortunately it closed down rather suddenly. We are not blessed with many Thai outlets around Bburn it's sad to say.

QPR v Spurs. Apart from bloody awful goalkeeping from Brad Friedel of all people it wasn't even a bloody free kick!!! What the hell the ref saw to award that free kick God only knows. How much could that decision cost BRFC / Bolton / Wigan? -
Went in the Clog for a couple of pints of Wainwright last week. 7.30-8.30 on a Friday night and it was very quiet. In fact the quietest that I have ever seen it. There have indeed been bad reports recently, but most have been about thepoor and tardy service. My mate had meal there with so many staff related cock ups and such slow service that he described it as like an episode straight out of Fawlty Towers. They need to be very careful. We are blessed with so many good quality eateries around these parts that the Northcote name alone isn't enough.

Sunday at OT Young was offside by a yard or more with the linesman in direct line yet the flag stayed down and then he dived as soon as he felt a touch and the incomptetent Lee Mason (rem the pen against Samba v Everton?) deemed it a 'last man' foul. Obviously Derry was last man if Young was offside. Linesmans fault compounded by another referee who simply can't wait to satiate the unreasonable needs of 76000 inside OT. From his first season at Villa Young has always been a diver yet somehow doesn't get a name for it as Suarez and Drogba etc have. Why is this? He is in his absolute element at OT! btw the screeching know nowt Jonathen Pierce deemed it a rightful pen before going on to slate decisions made by various linesmen this weekend. How that fecker keeps his job is a constant mystery to me. He has neither talent, perception nor diction. -

When a similar incident happened to Spurs last autumn (just after the N'Zonzi pen incident at Norwich I seem to rem) it was headline news and absolutely done to death on talksport all week. -

Franco was usually bloody awful but the nicest person one could hope to meet. Always smiling , I could never stay mad at him for very long. -

I think the lino for Chelsea v Wigan must be from Mill Hill or Farnworth or similar. Abject poor decisions that could cost Wigan £50m at least. Nice to see that the MoTD team sympathised but then saw the funny side of it. Be different if a media favourite was in a desperate relegation battle. -
Bukhara Thurs night. Keep the Sharzan...... This place sets the standard for Pakistani cuisine. Food was excellent as usual and presented superbly, mighty cheap too. Slight quibble..... First time we've been for a 'sit in' for some time and er indoors commented that the building is becoming ready for a bit of attention.

If Mike Riley, Uriah Rennie, Jeff Winter and Alan Wiley can do 5 keep ups apiece I'll show my arse on the town hall steps. -

If his offence is deemed simple 'dissent' then the punishment is a yellow card, if his offence is deemed 'foul and abusive language' the punishment is a red card and thats that. A yellow cannot be awarded for foul and abusive language. http://www.wfms.org/Other/Football/FIFA/law12.html -

Rum do this. As a retired Policeman I'd assume that Sergeant Webb when confronted in public by a yob with a face contorted by uncontrolled rage screaming at full pitch into his face "you are an effin wanka" would have made an arrest and taken the lout into custody. So why on earth did he just wag a finger at Paul Scholes after his foul mouthed outburst was caught full and in close up by Sky camera's? Terrified of Fergies wrath no doubt but I wonder it the FA will dare do anything? -

Marriner might not but I'm damned sure that Mike Dean would. Must say if anybody conned me causing me to lose points / credibility etc to 20m viewers they'd get nowt ever again and I'd privately tell them as much before a match started. I'd wager that sort of 'don't get mad, get even' treatment and a nod and a wink attitude from the refereeing authorities on a general scale might go a long way to stop all diving and cheating in it's tracks. -
Creaky floorboards, Wainwrights and comfy chairs and the food is consistently good. Millstone so often sets the standard that I judge others by. Unfortunately and inevitably I notice Anson Bolton is now milking the reputation they have earned and it's reflected in the pricelist. He needs to be very careful cos the area is swamped with quality competition.

Lots of places in and around Kendal but if you want something special and dont mind a 15 min drive Tris has recommended L'Enclume at Cartmell on this thread somewhere.

Sorry but if Andre Marriner can't see a blatant trip from 5/6 yards away with direct sight of the incident then he should be sent back to refereeing park football for the rest of his career.... and that would be unfair to park footballers! Yak doing his normal stuff should have seen us 1-0 up yet within minutes we went 1-0 down. Who knows how going behind so early might have affected the Boltoin players? Marriners ineptidude changed the game and imo was a massive influence on the result and possibly the relegation battle. That was a game we didn't necessarily have to win but it was one we dare not lose. Cos of that idiot's inability we lost. -

The linesman was Jim Devine and that decision was down to him. I feel sympathy for refs continually taking the rap for poor decisions made by their assistants. Drogba's reputation must work against him.... and if it doesn't it damned well should. He's a con man and the people he con's most are referees. As such he would get absolutely nowt from me if I had the whitle (although no doubt I'd get in bother with the refereeing authorities). Wouldn't be completely right of course but it would put an end to his antics. The end would justify the means cos aside from his antics he really is one hell of a talent. -

Credit where it's due. The German refereeing the match between Chelsea and Napoli tonight was superb. No coincidence that the match was such an exciting spectacle. So just what makes the plonkers with the whistles in this country so keen to use them to the detriment of entertainment, the spectacle and the game itself? It never used to be like this. -
Bin there Tris! And I've spent many a happy hour in the quirky little 'Windsor Castle' just behind it. There was a really colourful landlady who reminded me of Osbert Lancaster's Maudie Littlehampton and there were usually lots of B level thespians in. She left and the place was never the same again although it might well have recovered by now. My sister lived on Maida Avenue for a time and travelled the world extensively so me n'er indoors had the apartment to ourselves when we visited London. Not many places in London where I would like to live but Maida Vale and Richmond would be my choice. Must say Tesco bloody Express is new and imo doesn't really suit. That area didn't need it.

err...... Thats what this thread is about Tom. There's 81 pages of recommendations! btw rog's advice is good. Good food and equally important good beer too.
