Reminds me of a text message someone sent me a fortnight or so ago.......... "Just bought a packet of sausages from Sainsbury's. There is a picture of Jamie Oliver on the front and on then back it says 'prick with a fork'..... Can't argue with that!"

Rip off merchants. Good when it opened but once it became the place to be seen prices and quality went in opposite directions. Yu and You Reminds me of the old saying... If someone pulls yer neck out it's their fault.... if they do it twice it's your own fault. That Vinny would rather run a disco than a serious restaurant imo. Can't think why Ramsey gave them the nod. His finances were in tatters at the time but I'm sure that wouldn't have affected his judgement.

hmmm indeed. I'd be prepared to believe that a bloke might do that but rarely a woman in my opinion.

The rumour mill will do. They had him down as a closet homosexual too. Best not to dig too far cos it looks like the papers appear to have dropped the issue, although no doubt through the expedience of knowing which side their bread is buttered on.

Notwithstanding the shallow fact that Gary Speed was deemed more handsome than Gary Ablett that is imo a comment which adversly reflects upon our society rather than the morals / ethics of newspapers. Speed's last wish was to die, Abletts was (probably) to live. Speed got his wish Ablett did not. Both sad losses but we really need to prioritise our sympathies. Correct Paul. I've a feeling that as the tribute devalues itself through over use then so will the behaviour of the crowd. No doubt why the safe option is for applause rather than silence is so often taken. Whatever happened to a flag flown at half mast? Served it's purpose for centuries.

Heaven forbid I order a takeaway.... http://www.enidblytonsociety.co.uk/book-details.php?id=2048&title=Enid+Blyton's+Chinky+Takes+a+Parcel

Went at last. Surroundings and service are indeed excellent and unfortunately much better than the quality of the food. Not a patch on the quality to be had at Bukhara / Samlesbury. I don't think the food was very well done at all but Naga is a more Indian menu whereas I tend to prefer the Pakistani originated cuisine. btw... No doubt mentioning those two nations in the same sentence and displaying a preference for one over the other will have elevated a particular mod of my recent aquaintance into a frothy state of racist indignation bordering on a full scale red alert. Message to him... Calm down dear, calm down.

In Newcastle????

Not being funny here and there's no particular logic to this but I'd not dream of eating in a curry house on Christmas Day. They just don't get what Christmas is about but they still charge like Rhinos!

I'll have to go. Heard a few good reports and no bad ones. Its been on my list to try for a while.
-
Indeed. One only has to pick up a newspaper to see people with much bigger problems than one's own. A sense of perspective must be a key factor.

You give continual good advice on here tris so L'Enclume is noted. But given that any long service award for me will have to be given by myself and I'm a tight git have you a rough price guide? Or is it a case of if you have to ask you probably can't afford it?

Difficult to comprehend. Poor lad.

Try the A66 instead of the A59 then. Ask em if they give any freebies for anyone with the full set.

But we do! http://www.footymatters.com/articles/extras/respect/the-black-list-awards-2011/ Surely as the powers that be attempt to 'kick racism out of football' these awards drive a horse and cart through all those good intentions. How would a 'White List Football awards' be viewed? Q. Now which constitutes most racism? 1. Sepp Blatter suggesting that there is no problem with racism in football. or 2. The Black List Football awards? or 3. The introduction of a White List Football awards event? Today we see Ian 'Bro' Wright showing his true colours whilst Gus Poyet's been lambasted by the old RFW today for saying that in Uruguay there simply wouldn't be a problem. Now I've no problem with that, the factor that I take issue on is the automatic assumption of narrow minded people within these shores who pompously believe that what we deem to be right and wrong must instantly adopted by the rest of the world. It simply doesn't work like that.

Mark Bright and David Davies were both on breakfast news this am condemning Blatter but both admitting that Europe and the rest of the world will not even be discussing Blatters comments as the matter is only considered commentworthy here. It appears to me that the entire issue is being whipped up into a storm by the press and media cos of a need for revenge re:World Cup bid and video evidence etc. Don't we just shoot ourselves in the foot? I suggest the blame for the World Cup fiasco might just have it's origins in Wapping and not Geneva. btw "sexual harrassment in bars and pubs" !! and the like is why the human race has proliferated in number and is just another complete load of modern day PC bloody gonads! What a grey area that is. Where do you define the difference between sexual harrassment and somebody simply plucking up enough courage to make the first move? Imho most young people go to bars in order to meet members of the opposite sex it's just that in most cases it's rarely the ones that you want who are attracted to you. You need to consider the old adage 'faint heart never won fair lady'.

Now racism in it's purest sense is horrible but old Blatter is getting the hounds of hell set on his trail over a remark that imo has more than a modicum of truth and common sense. Not saying he doesn't deserve it overall but this is a witch hunt proper. Football is instinctive, passionate and impulsive and things said in the heat of the moment are just that and should be viewed as such. I've called and been called all sorts in the past and it's all been forgotten with a handshake at the end. Premeditated insults designed to provoke a reaction are much worse albeit imo rarer. Blatter said..... "I would deny it. There is no racism," he said. "There is maybe one of the players towards another – he has a word or a gesture which is not the correct one. But the one who is affected by that, he should say that this is a game. We are in a game, and at the end of the game, we shake hands, and this can happen, because we have worked so hard against racism and discrimination." Now I find little wrong with that tbh and certainly nothing to cause the furore that has built up around it. Just a few points.. 1. Who the hell do we think we are to dictate what is right and wrong to the world? We are a tiny Island nation of little consequence so how can we be so presumptious as to decide that we are always right and not to recognise that what we consider wrong can be perfectly acceptable elsewhere and vice versa? 2. The press and media are predictably wheeling out all sorts of nondescript individuals to comment. We have Rio Ferdinand playing a leading role (lest we forget Rio is hardly a paragon of virtue is he after he had a decade+ long adulterous affair, and has also served a long suspended for drugs 'irregularities'. Jason Roberts who suddenly and most mysteriously is on TV more times than Ant and Dec! Why??? I can only presume old Dick Dastardly has plenty of influence and strings to pull from the centre of his web of deceit. Next up Gordon Taylor, Mick Macarthy, Richard Caborn, Ed Milliband etc etc all lining up to call for his resignation. Reminds me of people who live in glass houses not throwing stones. I'd love to search their phone messages cos I'll wager 90% of the people in the chasing posse will have received and forwarded John Terry/Anton Ferdinand jokes this past few weeks! ..... I'd wager 90% of members here will have too. Hypocrisy really is reaching epidemic proportions in this country.

All those currugated rooves up there are mighty odd don't you think Tris? Literally thousands of em. Why is that? Great thing about Scotland is that I bet the tablecloth was spotless and the cuttlery and plates likewise.
-
His recipe for chillie con carne is excellent and easy to do and I've used it many times but I'd not invite him to share it. If his public personna is anything to go by I don't think we'd get on for very long.

Not talking cheffing quality here Tom, we're talking personality and ego.

Me too abbey. I can't readily think of a celebrity chef that doesn't require the same treatment! They are all conceited knob heads. Truth is I'd like to hit Gordon Ramsey with Worrall Thompson and kill two birds with one stone. ...Sorry yes I can James Martin's OK.... Oh and Fearnley Whittingstall's fine too although I'm not sure rat bourginon and rook fricassee are exactly my barrow.

Obviously very good food but a little too formal for me. Not a cheap dining experience either but then again one wouldn't expect it to be and the cost does deter a lot of riff raff.... but obviously not completely. Everywhere needs a Northcote for whenever it's an occasion to push the boat out.

Haven't been for years but it used to be a damn good trip out on't train Kyle.

Proper chippy which sadly has been sold. Used to be packed out all the time both shop and cafe and I know lots of folk who drove over from Blackburn for the dining experience. No secrets, no magic wand just proper practices so why do other chip shop owners find the standards set by 'Claccy' chippy so difficult to attain?
-
Good point. I don't either really but we'd just been talking about the fish and chips at the Oyster and Otter and I thought I'd compare. By the same token I don't see much point in having a curry in an 'English' either.
