  1. why wont nero burn wma files to a cd? i thought it did that...
  2. it's easy to throw around the cost of players as being the only issue - malbranque left fulham in pursuit of ridiculous wages, which probably put hughes off. all very well getting a decent player at £2.5 million but then having to pay however many thousand a week to stop him from sulking? whilst i think that maybe we could do with some strengthening in the midfield i do think that on the whole it's not been a bad transfer window - offloading kuqi for £2.5 million is excellent business, and hopefully nonda will hit his old form. the thing that strikes me most about hughes' transfer dealings is that he has tried to bring in people who want to play for him, which i think has in turn led to better team spirit and our success last season. we've had people in charge before who threw money around like there was no tomorrow bringing in overpriced mercenaries, paying over the odds because blackburn isn't a fashionable club, and everyone whinged about that. now we have someone who wont do the same, and people are still whinging.
  3. oh absolutely, I can't think of ANY players who have come over from France and done well here.
  4. Don't think the ref had that bad of a game really, he called the penalty spot on, he didn't get sucked in by the dives, the only thing that he might have done better was to yellow card a few of the divers. He could've done a lot worse really, kept the game flowing as much as possible.... Typical that the good semi is the one I miss by being out on the drink
  5. i wouldn't go that far - against a team with a bit more luck/class they will suffer. australia showed how you can push brazil every inch of the way by being very disciplined. the only difference in it for 90 minutes was that one of brazil's shots went in, the game only opened up for them when australia went to 3-4-3 which left massive gaps for brazil to counterattack.
  6. well i broke my world cup duck going to this match and what a game it was. it would have maybe been the easy route for australia to put 10 men behind the ball and try to grind something out, but that's just not their style at all. i like the way that they are willing to take it to anyone, it makes a refreshing change from all these "brave" teams who try to grind out draws against the bigger names. also i would have been very annoyed at a bore draw, having paid a fair whack for the trip. it was worth every penny tho, that's for sure looked like the ref had a shocker, but it's always hard to tell without the advantage of a zillion tv replays. brett and lucas were awesome tho, we know lucas has that in him when he wants to play, but brett? i couldn't believe that the guy who runs around like a headless chicken against utter dross opposition was matching ronaldinho - i'd joked that this could be the head to head of the tournament, but there it was. quality shone through in the end tho; australia kept missing the free man in attack because they weren't skillful or assured enough, brazil kept missing the free man/men because each and every one of them would rather dance the ball into the box and shoot than put together a string of passes. aus should get thru to the next round, getting any further will depend on who they play against. brazil are not world beaters. individually very skillful, but as a team they lack the work ethic and discipline that they need to have in order to give their flair players license to do what they do best.
  7. the interview was actually in TNT - a free magazine aimed at antipodean travellers - and so the focus of it was partly on how an australian found playing and living in the uk. if you have ever read TNT you will understand that its predominant theme is how much of a sh*thole the UK is compared to Aus (which I have always thought is a bit ironic), so it's hardly surprising to find an interviewer pick up on someone playing for a team from somewhere that's not considered to be a particularly nice part of the country. The interviewer asked "isn't Blackburn a bit of a sh*thole?" and Neill laughed at the question and then said "well, yes". it's not as if neill rang up the Sun and gave them a story of how he hates sh*thole blackurn. re the world cup thing - probably poorly advised quote, but everyone who plays at the world cup has it in their minds that if they play well on a global stage then people will notice. same with all those players from rubbish leagues in europe who will only turn on the magic in televised european competition as they know it will get them noticed more than playing well week in week out will. can't really fault lucas for being honest but he probably should know when it's best to just avoid saying anything.
  8. do you think you might be reading a little bit too much into it? if he hadn't said "no disrespect to blackburn" you'd still be up in arms.
  9. didn't Sensible Soccer try a 3D version a while back? I have vague memories of it on the PC... it was never as good as SWOS on the amiga tho - our flat at uni in 98 had an amiga in the lounge soley for SWOS playing if they can make it as good as that, then it will have equalled the best football game ever.
  10. He has the ability to walk without cruches, that sets him apart from those two right now If Wenger thinks he is ready, why doesn't he play him?
  11. me and the missus are going to aus vs brazil
  12. mariokart alone is a good reason to get a DS, it's an awesome game
  13. I'm not sure I agree with that, I think that Hughes has been very positive for our image. Once we were able to get away from the robust style of play that was needed to ensure our surival last year (largely a legacy of the end of the Souness era), he has done well for us by coming across as being knowledgable and level-headed. As long as he doesn't start to disappear up his own backside, he will hopefully continue to do so.
  14. I think the reason that people shrug their shoulders is because everyone expected Chelsea to win it. They set the standard by running away with it last year, and then never looking threatened this year. The fact that they can then pick and choose the finest players in the world adds to that feeling that with the resources at their disposal, they should be winning it. People will always say that we bought the title, but for a slightly different reason - whilst we were matched, in spending and on the pitch, very closely by Man U and Newcastle, it's undeniable that we were also punching above our weight as a small town club, and the money was the reason for this. People look at Chelsea, and if they had been matched so closely by other teams in terms of spending, no one would be leveling the same accusation at them. Their transfer spends, however, make up a ridiculously high percentage of the total spends by teams in the English leagues, no-one can compete with them in those terms and until they can also show that they can bring through young players, like Man U did and Arsenal still do, rather than just buying the pick of the crop, people will continue (justifiably so) to say that they are buying their titles, and until they can win by playing attractive and exciting football, people will continue to resent them.
  15. oh absolutely. because there was once a golden age where we were all free to do whatever we wanted without being hassled by the man. as an occasional smoker, i am all for the pub ban. i like to be able to chose whether i smoke or not, and right now i don't have that choice - if i go for to a pub i am breathing in other people's smoke. when i've been to ireland i can chose to not smoke, or i can chose to go outside and smoke. it's great! the only downside i can see is that you start to notice the smells that cigarettes hide so well - toilets, b.o., farts....
  16. i agree with this too, the missus will play video games with me sometimes but in the main she's not interested, having a controller like this that involves you more in the game is something that I can imagine her enjoying more.
  17. I think it looks good, tho obviously the main thing will be how they apply all of the things the controller can do to games. nintendo should be at least aplauded for having the guts to try something new rather than just follow the same formula over and over again with the only differences being the technology available at the time.
  18. Sorry, but I'm still very confused as to why anyone would spend over a grand on a computer to do word processing and internet on. I do professional audio editing on mine and it cost less than that, and the one that I had previously did internet and word processing perfectly (but alas, was rubbish at high end audio editing) and I sold that for the grand total of zero pounds and zero pence.
  19. this is manic, i am trying to follow it on three different sites and they are all showing different scores. nice one bentley
  20. the very instant you drop the sanctimonious @#/?, consider it dropped
  21. i feel alarmingly confident of getting a result out of this, the boys responded to "bully boy" criticism last time by sticking 3 past norwich, and given the way that hughes seems to be able to motivate them, i am sure that they will draw positives out of the way they were able to contain arsenal for most of the game. if palace come to defend then we could be in for a tedious match with the odd goal nicking it, but if they come to try to play then we should be able to take the game to them... i'll go for 2-0 rovers, pedersen to score another screamer and stead to score with a deflected shot from 10 yards out.
  22. when i was sat on the tube today someone opposite me had a copy of the sun, and lo and behold there on the back page they had managed to capture the instant that todd impacted on van persie. i don't know why i should expect anything more from the sun but i am sure they could have made something more of the game - it might not have been the prettiest game ever, but to take what was obviously an accidental colision, dress it up as a shocking foul, and then use that as their slant on the game is disgraceful. todd should be contacting his lawyers forthwith!
  23. I would expect that sort of trash from the mail, however the guardian/observer are normally have a little bit more sense and I usually find their reviews to be pretty much spot on. This is a disgrace tho! Email sent!
