Not sure about the Norwegian LB but Whiteman and any good LB would be a very good window indeed. If that was followed up by the news that Stoke had come back in and were waving cash at us for Evans then it would almost be a case of "If Carlsberg did transfer windows......." Bit to go before we get to that point though.
-
Pound notes maybe? Liable to end in tears though if he's merely coming for money and there is no chemistry between him and the manager.
-
Yes. Just not as well as Mowbray. Apparently.
-
Possibly, but the buck or credit stops with him either way!
-
Interesting, wouldn't his potential fee be in the millions? Maybe the owners are playing a blinder after all.
-
I can't help feeling there's a subtle dig in there but fair enough.
-
I have never heard anyone spout such rubbish on this forum as you. So basically, if they are rich and successful outside of football like you (well done to you on that btw) then they are entitled to pass an opinion on their favourite football team, but if they are less so then they can't or their view carries less weight. Top stuff.

Welcome. I wouldn't say it's that tetchy on here, despite differences of opinion, levels of civility are generally good I think. You're right, things COULD go from strength to strength, on the other hand they may not and for anyone failing to accept things are improving we've frequently heard in the past the argument "if we win five out of the next six we'll be in the mix" etc. I'd actually argue things have to go from strength to strength anyway, given the number of key players out of contract in the summer, the fact our CEO has managed to somehow reduce our fanbase to sub 2.5k, and the long standing elephant in the room, our overall level of debt. Good opening contribution from you though, enjoyed that.
-
Generally though, if manager A has a better record of success at the same level over a lengthy period of time than manager B, then that would tend to indicate manager A is superior regardless of the individual foibles of the Club's they've been at. That's what you seem to be arguing against.
-
Not sure that's entirely true, I don't rate him at all currently but I'd have to hold my hands up if he got us promoted. Similarly it might be easier to judge his tenure as a whole if he took us back to League 1. The grey area will come if he leaves in 5 years time and at no point have we made the play offs. I'd regard that as abject failure but I'll bet there would be some still arguing ihe'd done well having to deal with Venky's and (allegedly) limited budgets etc etc.
-
Which you then took to a whole new level by quoting a fairly random and meaningless stat in support of your argument. Light the blue touch paper stand back and whoosh! Not complaining it's been quite entertaining! ?
-
Who knows. Things seem to work out for most managers at certain Clubs but not at others. Like Warnock, Hughton does seem to have a very good overall record at Championship level though. If you'd offered me Hughton or Mowbray 24 hours ago, I'd have taken Hughton like a shot personally.
-
Also, regardless of the identities of the individuals concerned, when a team changes manager they usually experience the "new manager bounce" for a few games. Lamouchi had seemingly got himself in such a rut I'd almost rather he was still there than if they'd appointed Owen Coyle. Almost.
-
Oh do give over. You sparked the whole unnecessary debate about whether Mowbray was better than Hughton by quoting some random win stat which is probably skewed somewhat by Mowbray's short and relatively disastrous time at Celtic where there's only one team for them to beat. Just go onto a Celtic message board and ask them what they think of TM. Still the last Celtic manager not to win the League apparently. Surely no-one would look at Mowbray's career and that of Hughton' objectively and claim TM had been more successful. That said it counts for little who is probably better than who when we play Forest, it's the result on the day that counts

Nicely swerved, I know Mowbray (wrongly) didn't seem to rate Raya and fell out with him and scapegoated him and the owners didn't make him sell the player but you suggested we would only make a sale of one of our main assets for BIG money and only after a suitable replacement had been sourced which was the polar opposite of what happened with Raya meaning we allegedly missed out on our original goalkeeping targets and ended up with the calamitous Walton on loan for the season. Whatever your views on Raya, only a man with a white stick would claim Walton was better than him and surely you can't deny that our first choice keeper is an absolutely key component of the team.

We've had a decent start, probably a lot better than everyone expected, and I don't think a single person has complained either about that or the position we currently occupy in the table. And yet when we had the chance to further consolidate upon that good start at home on Saturday we failed to perform and saw Gallagher reintroduced onto the wing which is eerily reminiscent of previous failings so it's probably a bit early to start getting too cocky about our prospects. I'd rather see the decent run of form and some Derby like performances stretch over a reasonable period before I'm convinced we've genuinely turned a corner.
-
If we get a decent LB, and there are no major sales, hindsight might prove differently, but I'd say on the face it would have been a better window than any since we've been promoted. Especially given the general climate. If we don't get a LB then I'd say it was slightly disappointing as we only had three priority positions to fill (keeper CB and LB) and I'd rather that had have been done than acquire a second choice keeper who won't really affect our season either way. Now then, who's decent, domestic, and available at LB? I wouldn't be looking at Cunningham personally.

I'm only jesting with you, I'm fully behind you on the issue but I fear you'll be waiting a while. -
1st paragraph, what you mean like Raya? 2nd paragraph, game of opinions, Armstrong isn't anywhere near as good as Watkins imo but even if we did manage to sell him for 28m why would you be happy with only spending slightly over half that on reinforcements? Dack is the one who if fully fit I'd be looking for a Watkins size fee for. That is I would have been if had we not cocked up his contract situation and had it not been likely that we will either be forced to sell him for a cut price next summer, or watch him walking for free the one after that.

Surely you're not going against Government advice! ? Follow the guidelines! ? -
His point was, would you rather lose Dack, Nyambe and JRC for nothing or risk suffering a nine point penalty next season? Not much in that is there, in fact I'd rather get them signed up and preferably available to play but failing that sell them for appropriate fees which would remove the threat of FFP anyway.

Yet here he is seemingly on considerably less. Strange one that! If we hadn't (probably) wasted 12m on BB and Gallagher, no matter how hard the Club PR man Paul Mani tries to defend it, if we'd got in first at a much earlier stage with concrete bids for those players who knows what would have been the outcome. Even if we hadn't managed to land either or both of those two the point remains that there must have been a lot better for 12m out there than what we ended up with.
-
Bloody hell. If that's right could have got Reed and Tosin for 2m LESS than BB and Gallagher! ?
-
I'd have thought the actual medical would have to have been done before the deadline though and the deal be merely subject to the results coming through but hey ho, like I say, happy to be wrong.
-
Sorry to labour the point but the explanation of the extension above accorded with my understanding in that it only gave the Clubs an extra couple of hours to dot the administrative i's and cross the t's. Not to perform a medical the day after the window closed! We'll see I guess.
