[Archived] Poll - Falling Attendances.
RevidgeBlue replied to Tris's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Again total rollocks. Why would anyone give a stuff about the bragging rights when and if LU play at Ewood Park or not? It's not their club. I can't see any point whatsoever in supporting a new side such as LU on the off chance it might be more successful. It's no different whatsoever to deciding to switch allegiance to MU/Chelsea because it's the only way you can see some "success". Shaddy if you're that bothered about us not winning things I suggest you bog off now and go and support one of the "big 3." Stone me this is meant to be a Brfc messageboard for brfc fans. Talk about the enemy within. -

That's the most ridiculous post I've ever seen on the subject. The new club has nothing whatsoever to do with the original one, and you're reliant on bypassing a generation of fans in the hope that you will be able to convert the next generation. You might as well just close the gates and turn off the lights now as adopt that type of approach. Quite why it worked in Australia I'm not certain but then culture and tradition have never been the strongest points of Australian life. This is a Blackburn Rovers messageboard. You should be thinking of ways to try and promote Blackburn Rovers rather than advocating the club be disbanded. -
It was fairly uncharacteristic of us to leak such sloppy goals as on Saturday. Whilst I can't see us ever scoring again I'd be quite confident about us setting out our stall to keep a clean sheet. I honestly think the Buccaneers are pretty poor in comparison with their sides over years gone by. I would say 0-0 would be quite a likely scoreline.

[Archived] Huddersfield Town 3-1 FT
RevidgeBlue replied to Modi's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
To be honest with us being in such poor form the match takes on far greater significance than usual when, without being arrogant, it might reasonably be regarded as a safe passage through to the next round. It's an invaluable opportunity for our out of form strikers to regain some confidence and find the back of the net. From the Club's perspective with the potential for such a low gate it really is the one time this season when everyone's support is needed. I don't think the club can be criticised on price at ten quid so whilst I can fully understand everyone's frustrations I think every one in the area who is able should try and get to the game. -
Tend to agree SG but I could have sworn that I heard the tiniest smattering of applause from the Newcastle end in response when that happened in the first half. After such a fortuitous result however such are the vagaries of football another couple of victories and worGraham will probably be able to do no wrong up on Tyneside.

[Archived] Mark Hughes - Good Choice ?
RevidgeBlue replied to Ste B's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
You can't have it both ways Tris, in the past when you have been extremely critical over falling attendances you were dismissive of the fact that Souness sold off all our "entertaining"players saying that you didn't go to watch a particular player or be entertained, you went along to support the team. Why is it different for Hughes? Hughes hasn't become a poor manager overnight, unlike Souness who seems to have become one over the last two or three seasons for whatever reason. We do however need to ditch the 4-5-1. It doesn't work unless you've got an exceptional player up front and/or the whole team are comfortable with attacking or defending en masse like the Brazilian side. -

Surely Bentley deserves more than one bad game to make his mark. Emerton has already inflicted two bad seasons on us. -

We've played the last 3 games like relegation certs, hardly created a chance worthy of the name. Hughes needs to sit everyone down and have a long hard chat about where things are going wrong because things seem to be turning full circle back to where we were under Souness. Last season we performed well until we were safe then it was a case of couldn't care less. This season has never really got going and were it not for Tugay's thunderbolt v Fulham we'd already be cast adrift with 3 points from 6 games. Today was the most depressing display for a long time. Newcastle were pathetic themselves but ran out comfortable 3-0 winners. We've created next to nothing (again). Hughes has again erred too far on the side of caution IMO by starting with a 4-5-1 and Mokoena at home instead of Tugay. Neill clearly has learnt nothing whatsoever from his previous indiscretions, a ridiculous lunge after 90 seconds to earn yet another yellow, and a stupid challenge on Owen leading to the first goal. Was speaking to thenodrog after the game and he rightly pointed out that playing with his back to goal doesn't suit Bellamy at all. As poorly as Kuqi has played it seems that Bellers will have to play off him or nothing. The system was working well in the first half at West Ham. Bright spots? Good individual displays from Savage and Zurab although I'm not sure who was meant to be marking Owen for the 2nd. That's a grain in a sandstorm though, at the moment other than Sunderland every other side in the League seems to be playing much better than we are. -

Too many to mention over the years. Directors: David Brown Top bloke. What a thoroughly nice man. Uncle Jack (fleetingly) ditto Keith Lee ditto Bill Bancroft and Rob Coar Used to sit laughing and giggling through a game seemingly paying no attention to it whatsoever. Bill Fox Couldn't hack any criticism from the fans at all and could be fairly rude. You have to have the utmost respect for the job he did in in keeping the club afloat in the 80's though. John Williams Talks a good game. Never lets you get a word in edgeways, presumably so you have less chance to ask awkward questions. Tom Finn Comes across very well Ken Beamish How did he get that job? Players David Mail Absolutely top bloke Chris Sulley/ Nicky Reid /John Millar Really pleasant down to earth guys Howard Gayle A real character Andy Kennedy Tortured soul me and a mate had to calm him down at Manhattan Heights one Saturday night , he was ###### as a **** and as far as he was concerned all Blackburn fans were ******* because he'd had some stick off the crowd that day. Scott Sellars Turned up at my evening wedding reception along with some of the other players, sulked all night and made himself look a complete knob because he refused to be photographed with my ex's niece who thought he was the bees knees Simon Garner my ex had to confiscate his car keys off him one night when he came crawling out of the Woodlands on his hands and knees one night looking for his car. Nice bloke generally though. On a brighter note presented him with a man of the match match ball at the start of the season once when we beat Oldham 4-1 Gordon Cowans When he fell into/out of The Woodlands in a similar state. Graham (the next Alan Shearer) Fenton Spent all his time supping in the Woodlands with a pot on when he should have3 been recovering from a cruciate injury. Callum Davidson Nearly caused a riot in the Dog once by saying he couldn't understand why the crowd were unhappy with the team's performances. Speedie What a character. Anyone else in the Woodlands the night after the Leicester playoffs when he was stood on the tables conducting "Singing in the Rain?" Tugay At a casino in Blackpool. Betting heavily on roulette 100 quid a spin. Seemed to holding his own but kept having to disappear to a cash machine every 2 minutes because his girlfriend/wife was losing hand over fist! Really nice guy. Grabbi At the same place. Seemed fairly quiet and not particularly happy with life. Was obviously killing time fiddling about playing cards for a couple of quid a hand. Martin Taylor Seemed genuinely alarmed when I met him at Tesco's checkout and told him I would tell the manager he's bought a big pack of Mars bars. "They're for the kids" he said. David Dunn Always the perfect gent whenever I saw him out. Built like a brick out house. Probably many more I've missed. Happy memories. -

Since Souness left for St. James's to ruin the barcodes as well, this has replaced the Manchester Buccaneers as the must win game of the season. COME ON ROVERS! Heart says 3-0 win - Bellamy hat trick. Head says we will dominate the game but our lack of finishing power will catch us out - 1-1 draw. -

At least one Rovers striker can still remember where the net is. -
They missed out "We were mugged by Lady Luck today" Just to put the Souness legacy into perspective it said in the LET today he spent (frittered away) 48 million quid during his time at Ewood. Over the same period Allardyce spent 5 million.

[Archived] Poll - Falling Attendances.
RevidgeBlue replied to Tris's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
That's a slightly unfair example Bryan, the 26 quid Rovers charge is for the disabled person and a carer so their tickets work out at 13 quid each. I do think everyone is overdoing the doomsday scenario somewhat. Attendances have been gradually increasing over the last 10 years or so and it stood to reason that this couldn't go on indefinitely combined with increased ticket prices and TV exposure. If and when TV money is reduced Clubs and players will have to be more realistic with wages. No bad thing. And ticket prices may have to be reduced in the long run. Again no bad thing. Rovers do face a major problem in terms of attracting the support of the local Asian population as mentioned by CLB. But that's a separate issue. -

The poor gate for Chelsea is probably as indicative of the mind numbing pointlessness of the early stages of the Champions League as it is price. -

That's just not true either Scotty, we switched to 4-5-1 far too early after being under the cosh for a few minutes. That didn't work either, we conceded again and had to attempt to switch back to 4-4-2. -

It's not just about entertainment, it is about the results. Whether grinding out a point here and there and scoring 0.6 goals a game will keep us up over the course of a season is debatable. Still hopefully it's a case of needs must while Bellamy is injured and that we will play a more expansive system when he is finally available. -
Referees really do seem to have it in for Savage, he barely has to step foot over the white line and the yellow card comes out. Conversely he was hacked down by a late challenge early on yesterday and the Bolton player never even received a ticking off. Moaning at the ref isn't the most palatable part of the modern game but Savage is by no means the only culprit. Does anyone really think that Poll would have booked say Roy Keane (or indeed anyone from "the big three") in similar circumstances?

[Archived] Poll - Falling Attendances.
RevidgeBlue replied to Tris's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
EIT, I would definitely have gone had it not been live on the box, or if we had been challenging for the title/Europe/battling against relegation. However at this stage of the season out of 2 options: 1) Give one of our our closest rivals 32 quid + travel + no beer in ground or 2) Watch match live in Pub 2 mins away with a couple of beers for a fiver just swung it in favour of option 1 I think it's inexcusable not going to a home game to do the same though because you're depriving your own club of the money. -

I really do hope that when Bellamy is fit we consign the 4-5-1 to the history books once and for all. I don't agree at all this is our most effective way of playing. Granted it served a purpose last season when Sparky somehow had to stem the cascade of goals being conceded by Souness's side, yet we were in some ways fortunate to survive given we only registered 32 goals. This season is similar, five games in and we've failed to score in three of them. Three goals, none from a forward, one from a centre half, and our only victory courtesy of a couple of once in a lifetime strikes from midfield. I know the League table shows we're managing to keep our noses above water at the moment but at the same time we've had a particularly kind run of fixtures. IMO we need to start playing a slightly more adventurous 4-4-2. ** Don't really care who it is out of Bellamy/Bentley/Kuqi/Jansen ** Man Ure Arsenal and Chelski away excepted -

I'm afraid that if that match was representative of top flight football then it won't be long before the game dies on it's arse. Two teams set up not to lose the game rather than trying to win the game, trying to grind out some sort of result to get towards the 40 point mark. After about 30 minutes Brad Friedel launched a free kick from inside his own half which overshot our forwards by 30 yards and ended up straight in the arms of Jaskelinan (or however it's spelt) Andy Gray's comment: "Is that the first effort on target?" Sad but true. As for us Kuqi showed up better than Jansen up front. Prior to MGP going off I thought the only timwe we looked competent going forward was when the ball was switched left to him. Quite how he was sacrificed before the bumbling Emerton is a strange one. I thought Mokoena was quite effective in doing what he does best, breaking up the copposition. Hardly noticed Zurab was on the pitch. I thought long and hard about going to this one before declining. For those that did pay 32 quid to watch garbage like that - I salute you. -
Ssshhh..................don't tell Tris but Sav is apparently on the Breakfast Show on Talksport tomorrow morning!

You must have been watching through those fabled blue and white specs with wings on when you watched that challenge!

I may be being naive, but you don't get paid for the snippets that appear on SkySports News do you? The likely scenario is that Sky tracked him down and he happened to be playing golf. As such he would be likely to be wearing branded golf gear. If it wasn't Ping it could just as easily be Nike, Taylormade, Mizuno etc etc..........
