It’s my view, it’s an estimate.

If you honestly think the majority of our support still resides in Blackburn you’ve been away from the place longer than you think.

*Though through the work the Trust is doing I would wager the likes of Mike Graham would know for sure if he’s privy to share it.

I can’t say what percent of the fanbase do and don’t live in the Blackburn with Darwen catchment area or what the radius of it would be. But I had a think about people I know who go to at least 5 home games and out of 20 none live in the immediate area. The closest balderstone/whalley which is still about 10 miles. Mostly in Ribble valley to be fair. A few in manc, West Yorkshire and a few down south.

Although I appreciate my experience is skewed having never lived in a bb2 postcode.

No that is still an option, because all clubs issue printed tickets for away fans. This includes the Rovers. It is only Rovers home fans that are being fucked about. I can't wait till the club announce how season tickets are going to be sold next season.

Via Bitcoin only on the second Tuesday of every month no doubt

My mates periodically send me this after I foolishly downloaded a train ticket on my phone which was nearly out of battery by the time we arrived in Euston. Foreseeing issues I showed the ticket office the purchased return train ticket and my phone battery on 10% and asked if they could print me off a proof of purchase as my phone would be dead by the time came home. They refused. Well until I was abusive sadly, and I do mean sadly, the only language customer facing roles seem to understand these days.

I also had a similar issue with a boarding pass when cracked my phone screen. Since then I look for the past to find solutions to modern problems namely cash and physical documents.

I spoke to both Steve Waggott and Fraser Read specifically about this issue on Tuesday.

These are the reasons I believe they have made the decision:

    - The idea of “Digital Day” is apparently a small part of a broader commitment to the EFL Green Club Standard scheme. My own thoughts are that this is a literal box tick towards that accreditation, and there is a lot more work to be done that will have significant costs attached, but will also provide savings in the long run.

    - Secondly there is a long term plan to move more towards digital sales and ticketing, which is happening everywhere. Rovers are behind the curve in relation to other football clubs. While we have digital tickets, uptake is low.

Obviously the reason I got in touch with them was down to the problems this is causing supporters who want to attend the game. They are well aware of the criticism and have received contact and correspondence directly, they have also seen what people are saying on social media and this thread.

They immediately conceded that the message hadn’t been conveyed in an appropriate manner, they know it has caused upset/concern/anger and I’m positive there will be some discussions around this. What should’ve been pitched as a “join us on our digital journey” type message has come across as “do it or be left behind”. I don’t know who is to blame for the tone of it, it’s obviously down to them to manage that.

I explained that we’d had people contacting us directly to ask for help to ensure they could get a ticket. I outlined two proposal which WATR would be happy to endorse/assist with.

    1) We would provide assistance to people on Saturday to get online. If necessary take cash and buy and print tickets for them.

    2) Suggested a cash turnstile for a block of seats.

Whether it was always the plan or it’s a direct result of the negative feedback, the club are basically going to do point one. They are having a permanent digital assistance point in the club shop, ensuring phone staff are trained up to provide support and not just sales. Perhaps most importantly they stated that they would not refuse anyone a ticket as a result of the changes. There will be exceptions where a paper ticket will be provided - but it’s an exception rather than an option. Cash turnstile wasn’t an option as, although green, doesn’t contribute to the second aim highlighted above.

The aim here for the Trust wasn’t to “take the club to task” - it would’ve been a waste of everyone’s time as they are getting that message loud and clear already. The idea was to try and find a solution. Obviously we made the point that the timing of the furore here wasn’t great considering the efforts we were making for Fan Takeover.

This isn’t an endorsement by WATR of a long term move to digital only ticketing - I think the fanbase have made their thought on that abundantly clear. This appears to be a pilot that has been badly presented and received. Perhaps if we had been consulted beforehand we could’ve let them know how much apprehension and concern the idea would be met with.

As a slight aside, we’re in discussions regarding season tickets for next year (happy to discuss with anyone who fancies a chat on Saturday) and these recent events will likely tie into that in the future.

Commendable effort but once again it’s barmy the fans have to step in to provide common sense solutions to problems of the clubs own making. It’s their job yet once again beholden to fans donating their time and common sense.

”They immediately conceded that the message hadn’t been conveyed in an appropriate manner”. - if only we had a competent head of marketing to make sure such mistakes didn’t happen.

When they fail time and time again on the little issues it’s no wonder they can’t ever get the big things right.

Re the timing of the fans take over the cynic in me thinks they do it on purpose. I seem to recall they did something irritating before the girona game.

Even though there’s plenty of club officials who are paid very handsomely to do seemingly naff all at least the fan groups are still bringing some sense to proceedings.

Sustainability highlights for Bristol City and the group include:

    ·     Generating 100,000kWh of electricity using solar panels

    ·     Sourcing over 50% of food and drink served within 12 miles of the stadium

    ·     Donating surplus food to local charities

    ·     Subsidised bus travel to reduce the carbon footprint of away support, and

    ·     Energy-efficient lighting, water saving and zero waste to landfill policies.

Far too much effort. I’d rather just make it difficult for fans to attend saving £5 in printing tickets.

Sorry to keep digging out the Fans Forum but he's actually "a credit to the Club" according to Mike Graham (of Fans Forum Fame)

(Rightly) Having the piss taken out of us by Darwen FC. That's about where we are right now as a Club.

Quite. If and until someone can provide tangible evidence as to why he is a credit to the club and not useless I shall continue to believe he’s a coffee bean fryer promoted well beyond his ability. Going off the evidence I’m seeing he’s utterly useless. I’m sure he’s a decent bloke who rescues stray dogs in his spare time but as head of marketing it’s embarrassing

So it’s the same plank who’s in charge of retail and ticketing. It was bad enough when assumed it was 2 different muppets. No kiddies home kits in for the start of the season or Xmas. Now making the ticketing a shambles. Considering there’s some pretty stiff competition this guy could be up there as the most useless ewood employee, definitely much more suited for his role at Costa coffee frying beans.

  8. Just read that frasier read article. Where on earth do they keep finding these cretins. It’s unbelievable for a business to keep misreading the room across every aspect of pleasing their customers. If I was deliberately trying to conceive a moronic idea I couldn’t actually beat what these dummies put into action. Christ only knows whats left on the cutting room floor at hq.

  9. It’ll be some teenage kid who pays for everything on his watch. Totally forgetting there’s an entire generation of fans who are unable or unwilling to download a ticket to their smart phone or print one off at home. I know for a fact my old man couldn’t figure that out nor have the inclination to try.

And, a lot of people that won’t be able to afford to go to football over Christmas (let’s call a spade a spade particularly in the Blackburn area). They will have looked at that match for cheaper tickets at a tenner. Those same people might simply not have access to internet, smart phones, Apple wallets, printers and all that crap.

Another own goal from the inept commercial team.

  10. Somebody was telling me about this in the ground yesterday. I thought to myself what a load of bollocks. It’s not that a didn’t believe him but I thought there’s just no way. Not even the numpties at rovers would enforce a policy that will 100% have a negative impact on an already likely low attendance.

Where do they dream up this crap. It’s like they want to lose money. It’s up there with not having kiddies home shirts available for the start of the season and Xmas. Or closing the Bburn end. They’re just a bunch of feckless morons they really are.

  11. Truth is at most clubs one death spiral finishes you. The fact he was allowed to have 2 season here is the anomaly. He did far more there than he did here but Sunderland fans and owners demand success. He was never going to last although I’m sure he ingratiated himself with some of their fans with uncle Tony loves you routine and a tangible measure of “success” with getting into the playoffs

  12. Just picking the bones out of next seasons Lancs fixtures. From the 4th of July to the 22nd of August there’ll be no county championship cricket whatsoever. No proper cricket at OT for over 3 months. The 50 overs is still reduced to a 2nd xi comp

There’s also 3 t20 “double headers” with the women and 2 on a workday. So no doubt operation ‘we know no one turns up to watch women’s cricket without bolting it on to the men’s fixture so we’ll put the men on during the day so no so no sod can go’ will be in full swing.

Any more of those shenanigans and with everything else I think could well be my last year where I get a membership.

Also I see Graham onions has gone back to Durham. That will be a blow to the hierarchy as he was the easy “the answer may well lie within” boring jobs for the boys appointment.

  13. I just can’t go as far as saying I wanted Australia to win but I’m glad India lost (will lose). 2 thoroughly unpleasant sides with intolerable fans. Unfortunately one had to win but looking at it a glass half full one lost.

If compiled a cricket xi of prats it’s almost exclusively players from these 2 teams.
