    How do we pay Obafemi?

We've supposedly tried and failed to offer new deals to Nyambe, Armstrong and Rothwell.

If we had any sense we would be offering extensions to Kaminski, Lenihan, Travis, Brereton

    Yet unable or unwilling to.

In the very unlikely event this Obafemi is on less money than all those players then it doesn't add up.

I also don't fancy taking him with a supposed value of several million and doing Soton yet more favours by taking him now against Armstrong's value when they are set to lose him next year for free.

I'd rather actually use the cash more effectively and in a more balanced manner, investing in 3 or 4 areas of the squad.

Suspect there's some chain yanking going on here just to keep concerned supporters quiet whilst they get Armstrong out the door.

Definitely agree about investing in other areas.

We need a striker now AA has gone but equally we have no real defensive cover.

The there are contracts that desperately need extending for a few players or our summer will be a mega rebuilding job, probably with minimal transfer budget.

Rich Sharpe has mentioned Norwich as well. Watford, Southampton, Norwich and Crystal Palace and judging by Mowbrays comments yesterday one or more clubs aren't far off:

"“I think the club are right to have a valuation and it needs meeting. These clubs that have bids in for him, for me, the Premier League you see some of the money, we’re arguing over a few quid here and there, pay the asking price, get the job done and let’s get on with it."

So bids from more than one PL club, and probably a little haggling as well as how a deal should be structured. Can't see him staying.

Yer, it sounds like a deal is close to being done.

Not sure what Mowbray's definition of a "few quid here and there" is but it certainly sounds like a deal is near enough done.

I appreciate the need to rotate especially with a small squad but I always find quite how dismissive people are of the cups (especially the League cup) particularly strange.

I totally get that the league is the bread and butter but a cup run can be a highlight of an otherwise drab season, more often than not we nestle in mediocrity so the buzz of a cup run, playing big teams and even generating some income could be a bit of otherwise absent excitement and a bonus to help our bleak financial situation.

I agree, cup runs are great but with the situation we've left ourselves in with the squad being so reliant on our younger players/u23's we need to be pretty careful right now.  Ayala will not play every game this season and will likely be missing for a good period of time, so at some point we'll already be relying on Carter/Magloire.

Our back up full backs are completely untested at this level and any injury to Nyambe/Pickering (whos also untested at this level) see us fielding U23's in their place.

Championship is a long season and we need to make sure we give ourselves the best chance of being in it again next season, even if, unfortunately that comes at the expense of a cup run.

  4. Always a trade off between trying to stay consistent and not risking senior players.

At the moment though, we basically have a starting 11 and then the rest are under 23's (mainly) not sure how we can risk that many first teamers for this, even though it would be great to progress in the Cup.

The entire back 4 needs leaving out for this one, for certain.

I feel like Swansea are going to be like we were last season - style over substance. There's more emphasis on keeping the ball, passing out from the back, and playing nice football rather than actually winning football matches.

Hopefully we've ditched that idea and focus more on being more compact and hitting teams on the counter.

    Really hope so too.

Having the majority of possession didn't work out too well last season and we seem to fare a lot better when we have less.
