Recall the game there last season when due to M6 south closing  I was one of 200 Rovers fans that  arrived 25 mins late. Big club knew about it before kickoff and said they would keep turnstyles open for the late arrival of away fans. They didn't and at 355pm I was driving home.

At the time I asked a big club security officer he he could open the gate and walk us round. No was the reply. On my way back to the car I gave my story to a big club car park attendent. His advise was to contact/write to the Birmingham City Council mayor, a big club fan, and ask him for a refund. I didn't.

Hearing big club are saying tickets (cash only) are available on the night. Would I trust in their word??

It is a risk I agree. I'll make sure I get there in plenty of time

West Brom in the recent away match had a notice saying they would shut access to the away stand 15 minutes before kickoff. Seems very draconian to me

Crikey... sounds like the rumors of JDT losing the dressing room were right. Brittain's quotes very dismissive of Tomasson's style and approach.

The West Brom away game was a turning point for me. The players had lost faith in the manager and effectively given up. Apart from Garrett, who had his best game I've seen for Rovers, every player on that pitch was not fighting for the cause. Brittain's comments show the uncomfortable truth

Brittains comments in press rather telling.

As @glen9mullan mentioned (I think) JDT had lost the dressing room sadly.

I think JDT was a fantastic manager, but he had flaws in terms of he was stubborn in how he wanted to play, whereas in the Championship where there is less money, you need to adapt to the players and situation you are in.

"Lost the dressing room" and "players not playing for the manager" are old cliches but they are still relevant and sum up the last few months of Tomasson's reign. A player will in most cases give 100% every time through professional pride but when they're being badly managed or don't believe in a manager's philosophy, as Rovers clearly were, it has an effect on even the best players.

JDT? He's dead to me now. - Chaddy, February 9th 2024

JDT is the coaching god who had Rovers playing the beautiful game, the man on high who must never be challenged

    Until suddenly, he wasn't

Now it's John Eustace and his set-piece coach and his new way of playing. Tis written on stone in chaddyland

    We've all been warned

  5. You have to feel for the Stoke lad who made that video. There was a group of us at the recent West Brom away match saying exactly the same as Rovers imploded in the first half. It's hard watching your club being badly managed and the players not seeming to care less

I'm glad Tomasson has departed. Change was sorely needed and was too long coming. Tomasson was actively damaging the club in leading us into a relegation fight and if he'd been honest with himself he should have resigned and walked away long ago.

Early days, but we seem to have a hands-on pragmatic manager who appears to know how to get the best out of an under-performing set of players. Birmingham next and I'm actually looking forward to going, which I haven't been able to say for a long time.

I liked JDT, but it felt like a weight had been lifted from the players today. They weren't being forced to play tactics that they weren't suited to and receiving audible disapproval from the fans for implementing them. Things had clearly soured in the dressing room to the point of no return.

They looked hungry and ready to prove themselves to the new manager.

Yes it’s clear the players weren’t listening  to Tomasson any more and he had lost the dressing room to use a well known phrase. Another good result against Birmingham and we will have had a new manager bounce to use another

  7. "Lost the dressing room" is a legitimate football phrase and anyone who's played the game knows what it means.

Having played for many years to a decent level, there were a few times when I played for managers the team didn't rate so in that respect the manager had "lost the dressing room".  We still put in 100% but we knew we could be better because we were being badly led by a manager we did not respect.

There were tales of this happening under Tomasson and he is said to have asked the Rovers players after once dire performance if they "wanted to play for him" - another example of a manager in whom the players have lost faith.

All I know is it’s 10 times easier being the pressing player than it is being the player trying to play out from the back. One mistake in the last third and it usually ends up in a shot on goal. Which in our case usually equals a goal.

As a young player I went on trips to Europe and played in tournaments against teams from Germany, Italy, France etc. Unlike our lads, their defenders were all comfortable on the ball and played it amongst themselves even then, forerunners of the Guardiola era. It was interesting to say the least and as a forward, I found myself chasing shadows half the time.
