Sticking this in a popular thread so it gets eyes. Hopefully @J*Bwill give me a pass for the lack of accuracy to the thread topic.

We’re giving away 10 Half ST’s in partnership with one of the sponsors at Rovers Chat. We’re asking people to nominate others (or themselves) via direct message to the page on Twitter or by using the hashtag #RCNominations.

We’ve teamed up with several others since including a men’s mental health charity and Lancs Live’s Jaquob Crooke to hopefully add to the number we have to give away.

We’ll also be sponsoring the Ewood Express for a home game later in the season.

Thanks all. Anyone without Twitter can feel free to DM me here with nominations.

Absolutely tremendous work. Keep us all updated with the Ewood Express sponsorship initiative too

Really? That'd be incredibly disappointing but I really don't see the logic. They've probably started about 15 games between them but are now looking like key players in a potential promotion push. Does the LT say why? I suppose it would make sense if they had an injury crisis, but it's not as though they're anywhere near the bottom 3.

Well the obvious answer is Covid cases. Brighton probably don’t care that much about our promotion push and need the extra numbers in case they’re hit hard by Covid. We’d do the same in their position.

  3. Back on topic somewhat...

What a performance. Just wow. Clinical, solid and ruthless. The togetherness of this side is palpable. The drive, the determination obvious and the perfection in which each is playing their role exquisitely. (Hyperbole overload 😁)

We are so well oiled and full of confidence now that we could probably give most teams in the PL a good game. Confidence is so important with us (see BBD) and it was if the players simply knew that we would win comfortably.

As soon as we went 1 up it was game over in my eyes. Brum were very 1 dimensional in their approach play (I.e.get the ball up to Deeney) and the 3 at the back dealt with it so easily it was almost embarrassing to watch.

I used to laugh about Lennihans 1 dimensional diagonal Cross field passes, but the ability for 1 of the back 3 to now step into midfield with the ball showed that given the space even Darragh can play football. The weight on the pass for Khadra's goal was as good as you'll see so kudos for that big man!

BBD continues to the defy the odds with his goal scoring exploits. Remarkably he still runs down a blind alley at times but I think I can cut him some slack on that...any watching scouts will surely say this kid is very good, but he can go on and just get better, and better and better.

All in all a great afternoon and with it looking ever more likely it will be the last game we all see in the flesh for a while I'm certainly glad I went on.

We simply have to try and keep this side together in Janusry. We don't need anyone, or anything, else. Bust a gut on short term deals for the out of contract players and I think we have a real, real chance.

40% of the Armstrong's transfer money went to Newcastle as part of the original transfer deal who we agreed 40% sell on clause

I think it was probably a reasonable thing to do. We paid a lot less then what they wanted and the kicker was a 40% sell on fee. I can imagine a lot of our signings are similar in make-up due to the lack of funds we have available for outright fees (and yes, I know transfer fees are amortised)

We seem to be getting to a stage whereby clubs are considering vaccination status when signing players and also there have been suggestions of fining players who miss games due to not being vaccinated.

Hopefully some of the players who are not vaccinated will now start to consider doing so if they start missing football matches.

Probably a stupid question but can tickets for Saturday be bought at the box office on match day? A long time since I've been to Ewood and I'm gonna go to the game Saturday.

Think so, Wayne. I'd really recommend purchasing in advance though either online or on the blower as there have been some big queues at the box office when I've wandered past recently.

  7. Agree on the Johnson comments.

His experience was vital. There was one challenge in particular which probably would have given him negative points on the above scoring mechanism as he gave away a foul, but it meant that the PNE defender was completely unable to turn and get the ball up the pitch quickly. Johnson simply put his knee in to the back of the full back's knee making him fall on his face.

Did I just read football players are So fit? They run 90 mins 2 times a week, that's not fit at all, as they struggle with it. Many other sports do much more than that, in fact I know recreational IE public people who are fitter than that.  Football fitness is all about recovery, which just means they are not fit enough for purpose. Players like CR7 put them all to shame as he follows a strict fitness and nutrition routine and he's still running around at almost 40.

And yes we should be looking to take every advantage we can and working on throw ins and other set pieces would create an advantage for us.

Bit of an over simplification. I often run 30k a week, which is about twice what a professional footballer what get through over 2 games. I've also had the privilege of playing against a Southport FC 1st XI in a charity game, and although they were (and are) semi-pro I couldn't get anywhere near them. So much so their keeper played up front for giggles and he burnt past our 2 centre halves with ease.

Fitness isn't all about how far and for how long you can run, it's about what types of running you do. 90 minutes of shuttle running and short bursts would mean you have to be incredibly fit.

  9. Make no bones about it, this was a turgid game lacking in any long periods of quality.

Preston came for a fight, and although the conditions acted as a bit of a leveller, they literally just fired the ball as high as possible to their very physical front 2 hoping to pick up some bits 'n' pieces on the 2nd ball.

I thought we coped admirably and the whole of the back 3 deserve a lot of credit to standing up to the task. Although Darragh deservedly picked up the MOTM award it could have gone to any of those 3 IMO.

Our 2 moments of quality did and almost produced goals. The cross and subsequent header from BBD were sublime. A classic header from Big Ben. Glancing on the run-and-jump, nestling just inside the far post is a real sight to behold in football. Ecstasy ensued (although the dick heads in the BBE with the flares etc. should stay at home with mummy).

Our biggest attendance in a long while, all in the back drop of ridiculous ticket prices. The club should go all out and ensure the place is as full for the rest of the season. This young team deserves all of our support and they really could do something special now. Barring the top 2 the league is wide open and we are really in with a chance. IF we CAN make a couple of small tweaks in Jan we would have a real chance come May.

It never ceases to amaze me reading the comments of people who were actually at the game. Person A will say player X played really well yet person B can say player X was awful ! They can’t both be right.

Opinions thought isn't it...which is why everyone has gone made for stats and trying to 'Moneyball' football. It can work, but it can also be deceptive

  11. I've not read much on the game since Saturday so apologies if I'm raking over stuff that has already been discussed!

It was undoubtedly a very good win on Saturday, especially given our fragility on Wednesday and after conceeding so early in the game. My only concern is that the win papers over some huge cracks. We could have easily been several goals down before Khedra's deflected effort found the onion bag. The ball between the full backs and our centre halves seems to catch us out A LOT at the moment and needs to be looked at. I think we probably need Pickering back ASAP. Edun seems to drift inside to the centre of midfield and when we have very attacking wingers this means we get caught out.

I was really impressed though as soon as the confidence seemed to get back in to the side, we were aggressive in the tackle and strong in the air. Wharton grew massively as the game wore on and he and Lenihan seemed to when every header either pumped forward or crossed in to the box from corners or in play in the 2nd half. Wharton really could be our main stay man depending on how he recovers from his ACL injury long term.

Going forward we looked great and the 3 of Travis, Buckley and Davenport gave the centre of midfield a good balance. I thought Tombola got the call right with taking Rothwell out as the extra bite from Davenport was exactly what we needed. I really, really hope that we only recall Johnson back in to the side in absolutely dire circumstances. Davenport is certainly one we should persist with and develop further. Travis was also very good on the ball Saturday and he was perfect at ticking the ball over and played a lovely ball inside the full back for BBD's goal. Top class.

Last but absolutely not least was the atmosphere. Ewood felt great and the way the 2nd and 3rd goals were celebrated was unbelievable. Watching the 3rd goal and the noise generated was amazing. The relief, the ecstasy and the enthusiasm was all there. If we could somehow get that extra 4 - 5k on per week it will make a huge difference for the players and other supporters.

For what it worth, I think there is a massive over reaction reading some comments on here about this topic. Its the modern way of social media, like it or not.

It isn't a massive overreaction. The former players I personally couldn't give a toss about, but the optics are awful for Dack in particular. For a player that is getting paid a fortune to be injured for the best part of two years to do this is very disrespectful to the people who pay his wages.

He should also know better. He is a social media'ite these days with his TV show and reality TV star fiancé. If he genuinely wants to congratulate his mate then send him a text message out of site of the public eye.
