Good to see Rothwell playing like this. I wish he played like this every game - hopefully he can keep it up
-
Nyambe getting dropped is absolutely insane if true. He’s the best defender we have. Lenihan, Williams and Bell are all suspect

@Wegerleswiggle and @JoeH can you shed any light on how reliable your info is that the deal is done?
I imagine it’s a Crooke of shit that they’ve signed on the dotted line.

I love the irony of him being called Swag ?. He looks like he should be in Phoneix Nights

I'd go with the following tomorrow! Based on Ayala not passing the 'he needs to know how we play test' from Mowbray.
KaminskiNyambe Lenihan Williams Bell (unfortunately)
Davenport Holtby Rothwell
JRC Armstrong Dolan
Fisher, Wharton, Bennett, Ayala, Brereton, Johnson, Buckley -

No completely separate. I'd heard something about a left-back, not a personal tease I promise! hahahaha
Did Swag tell you we had signed a LB? ?

I didn't want Gallagher or Chapman either. Stlll don't ?

We have someone else - JRC and Travis on his return.
JRC shouldn't be playing in the midfield 3. Sick of playing people out of position. He should be out wide in a front 3. Travis is out so we need someone. Weird that you don't see it that way - obviously want us to struggle for 3 months whilst he is out.

Holtby - Who knows? Enjoy it whilst it lasts.
Johnson - move on
Evans - not injured all the time
Davenport - it's Mowbray who picks the team
Rothwell - CM, as he doesn't appear to fit anywhere else
JRC - Never said he is a CM, he's a RH in old parlance
We have more than enough cover in the midfield and other priorities that need addressing.
My argument is. It shouldn't be 'cover'. We should have a midfield full of people that are good enough or fit enough to get us promoted.
Davenport, Evans and Johnson aren't the answer.
Holtby and Rothwell COULD be. But we need someone else.

It makes no sense to spend money on a CM, who won't play after Travis recovers. It makes more sense to sign Dillon Phillips to compete with Kaminski than continuing to try to sign Pears.
Travis out injured is good for Holtby, who's playing in Travis' natural position and for JRC whose natural position is on the right of a midfield 2/3.The only position Brereton hasn't played is in the slot behind Armstrong, where Dack would play. I think Armstrong playing as the 1 in a 4-2-3-1 is his best position. Gallagher won't play RW and Mowbray won't play him.
We've got an injury situation that's nothing short of alarming with Travis, Dack, Gallagher, Vale, Butterworth, and Johnson all injured. I don't know what the situation is with Evans. Mowbray regards him as a 'top man'; Evans may want to play to be in the 'shop window'. As for Mulgrew, it seems to me the best solution would be for Fleetwood to pay what they can and put the 'remainder' to be paid as a promotion bonus.
It appears to me that Holtby and Johnson have 60-70 minutes in the tank, like an electric car that will get you near where you want to go, but won't go all the way, like ex-girlfriends. :Playing those two means you'd be planning to bring on 2 subs. I'd use Buckley and Davenport or Rothwell and Buckley. There''s Lyons waiting his turn, too.
A new LB is critical.
Playing well, but losing was the epitaph of Mowbray's West Brom's one season in the Premnier League under him. It's no guarantee of results. As Souness' charge up the table to overtake Bolton for second proved playing well followed results.
Why wouldn't they play when Travis recovers?
Holtby - been good in CM pre-season and the first two games. Will it last?
Johnson - Uninterested most of the time and not fit enough to last 90 minutes and not fit enough to play every game
Evans - Injured all of the time
Davenport - Has played like 15 minutes in the past 2 years
Rothwell - Probably trust him there as he looks best playing there but very inconsistent.
JRC - Not a CM.
The fact is we should be signing a midfielder to play ALONGSIDE Travis. However, he's injured so should be signing someone to play whilst he's injured AND when he comes back.

I would be going for Josh Cullen.
Here some highlights of his season in the championship last season https://youtu.be/BMhU11lJMu0
I'd be trying to buy someone if Venkys give up some dosh. Think we needed 1 CM prior to Travis' injury which would have probably been a loan but i'd be inclined to think we need 2 CMs now
-
Tony and Swag should be on the phone to Pune at this very second to ask for the funds to bring in a CM. Whiteman preferably.
Travis is a huge blow and the rest of our central midfielders are made up of weetabix or not good enough.

Watched this with a Newcastle supporter who couldn’t believe we didn’t win.
On the plus side, dominated, created chances and on other days we’d get the win. That said we lost, no doubt a dent to confidence after 2 defeats.
Kaminski 6 - Quiet game, maybe could have done better with the goal. Quick and positive on the distribution.
Nyambe 7 - Solid, enthusiastic performance.
Lenihan 6 - Okay.
Williams 7 - I was impressed, he looked to push forwards from the back, cut out an early chance, but did fluff 3 chances from corners.
Bell 6 - First touch slowed down some counter attacks.
Travis 6 - Okay.
Holtby 6 - Okay, snatched at a couple of chances.
Rothwell 8 - He grew into the game and kept driving forwards. Took his chance tonight.
Rankin-Costello 6 - Okay.
Dolan 7 - Exciting, positive and surely keeps his place on Saturday.
Brereton 6 - Battled, gave everything but not enough quality tonight.
Subs:
Chapman - Good cameo.
Armstrong - Not the dream return to his home club.
Buckley - Good cameo.
Hate losing, but plenty of positives. 3 points on Saturday then we can kick on ??
Travis a 6 when Rothwell is an 8 is a weird one

Yeah, haha. We don't want much do we?

After sorting the defence which hopefully we will, I’d rather us get another forward in than another central midfielder. If Armstrong got injured and we’d be left relying on Brereton and Gallagher we’d be in huge trouble.
You're right. To be fair - we need both a midfielder and a forward once we have 2 CBs, a LB and a back up GK. I imagine a forward would be a loan signing at this point
-
Also, Ayala is a superb signing if we get it done. A LB and a decent back up option at CB and we are really looking good. Throw another (yes, another) central midfielder of quality on the books and we are looking even better!

Agree about Raya. Was happy to see him go. Feel like people are only harping on about him because Walton was poor.
Stupid that he’s going to Arsenal as he’s definitely not good enough. Just thankful they’re stupid enough to pay for him so we get some money!

Little to no goal threat on that bench. Clean sheet needed.
