Mozzer Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 i personally would have dunn, reid, tugay and mokoena ahead of robbie savage in central midfield.. i think the only problem in letting savage go is we are down on numbers..not because we miss "his" quality, its just if we have any injuries or suspensions we could be in trouble.. .

Hasta Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 IMO out of the players that have moved this window most have been either too expensive or not good enough to make our first 11. I agree with that. However the problem with finding nuggets like Bentley, RSC, Warnock and Samba for very little money is that it's unlikely you can keep doing it. Hence we end up with a situation like the one that you state. If we want to improve the squad, the vast majority of the players we need are out of our price range. For the players that are reasonably priced, there is a lot of competition for their signature.
nicko Posted January 30, 2008 Author Posted January 30, 2008 Hi Nicko, so can I take it from the previous comments that the takeover will not go through anytime soon? any info would be great. Laters all. I've got no time-scale on that. Said all along that I felt the Asian thing would be hard to do...for several reasons.
b12_simon Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 While we could use a central midfielder, we're not desperate for one. It's no secret we've got no money but we don't need to panic buy like the relegation-threatened clubs do. If it's a choice between waiting til we can get a decent player in the summer or buying some pudding now cos he's cheap, well I know which I'd prefer.
vintageadidas Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Hughes must be happy with the squad he has. Not 100% sure but our rivals for a UEFA spot finish have not been busy either: Signings: West Ham - 0 Villa - 0 Everton - Fernandes Man City - 0 Portsmouth - the busiest with Diarra and Baros Saturday will be a good test to see where we are with the current squad as i think Everton are the strongest out of the aforementioned teams. I also heard off a pretty reliable source other than Nicko that a few potential new faces have been spotted round Ewood today. Could be youngsters, could be trialists - something may be bubbling. EDIT: I am right in thinking that a UEFA cup place has been lost due to Spurs taking one of them for reaching the final?
BRFCGrez Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Heard the same vintageadidas. Looks like the Argie to Burnley has hit red tape, they're struggling for translators or something.
nicko Posted January 30, 2008 Author Posted January 30, 2008 TOP FOUR CONTENDERS...signings in January LIVERPOOL - Skrtel [poor start]. EVERTON - Fernandes [talented but unpredictable] and the kid Gosling [won't figure]. PORTSMOUTH - Diarra [good signing], Baros [offside-challenged] and Abbey [cover]. MAN CITY - Castillo [injured, lightweight]. ASTON VILLA - Routledge [maybe] and AN Other. BLACKBURN - Flynn. Make your own mind up, but a signing or two might have seen you finish above a lot of these...
nicko Posted January 30, 2008 Author Posted January 30, 2008 I am right in thinking that a UEFA cup place has been lost due to Spurs taking one of them for reaching the final? No, they have to win it.
nicko Posted January 30, 2008 Author Posted January 30, 2008 Apparently we're interested, or have been, with a Korean player http://www.goal.com/en/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=566525 Daily Mirror two/three weeks ago...he came, he saw and he's still waiting on an answer.
krislu Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Hutton now confirmed. With Hutton and Wodgate in they surely have put some strength in defense. Next season they will finish well above us in the league!
Exiledfan Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Nicko, what's the situation down the road with new additions? They seemed to be in for a flurry of activity at one point, but little seems to have been finalised? With Lafferty on his way, they could end up in the mire.
revolutionrock! Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 might have seen you finish above a lot of these... Jesus, theres still a day left !
Hughesy Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Everyone said that this year too! With Hutton and Wodgate in they surely have put some strength in defense. Next season they will finish well above us in the league!
ffan Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 With Hutton and Wodgate in they surely have put some strength in defense. Next season they will finish well above us in the league! An unproven right back and an injury prone defender? I don't think so.

Will be happy to share once business is done. With or without translators...
mattjansen Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 With Hutton and Wodgate in they surely have put some strength in defense. Next season they will finish well above us in the league! Thats the spirit!!!
Hughesy Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Nicko - No news on Rigters or Gally leaving?!
Exiledfan Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Will be happy to share once business is done. With or without translators... So the dingles could be happy yet then?
nicko Posted January 30, 2008 Author Posted January 30, 2008 Your accent's not that bad nicko! Porque Burnley?
krislu Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 An unproven right back and an injury prone defender? I don't think so. Why do you label a scottish international who has played almost 100 league games for Rangers and also have Champions League experience, unproven?
Silencio Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Maybe I've missed this. Is Maldonado out of the frame, did he go to Turkey?
krislu Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Thats the spirit!!! No, unfortunately it's the truth.
mattyboy6000 Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 for me there is a simple agrument to confound these suggestions we don't need a central midfield- strenght in depth. last season we struggled for it but had the benefit of pedersen and mccarthy playing well, who aren't doing now. one injury to dunn or reid and the axe is back, to gift away possession, and to shoot off target.
revolutionrock! Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Maybe I've missed this. Is Maldonado out of the frame, did he go to Turkey? Why dont you go back and read ?
