RibbleValleyRover Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 If he turns down City and Big Phil then says "yes" to Chelsea, then he'll have tucked himself right up. And Williams could sack Hughes for asking to speak to City as it could be seen as a clear indication he wants to leave.

roversmum Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Chelsea I can stomach but City - yyyyyyyyyyyrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh, Okay, so maybe as has been suggested he is casting out to hurry Chelsea up in making their decision, but if neither happens is there a going back? To me it's as good as saying goodbye because how can we have the trust in him when we know he's only marking time? Modes98, dear, might I respectfully suggest in the interest of Rovers that you don't go on holiday in future?
leftfooter Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Maybe, but depends on who we get as our next manager! But then Hughes hasn't said he's going to City, they've come to him. But he'll probably end up at Chelsea if he does go anywhere. Blame Michael Carrick I can just picture Hughes right now; curtain twitching, binoculars out and pointed at Carrick's allotment, stroking a Man City scarf with faded blood spots on it, purring to himself...'vengeance will be mine'....
The Prof. Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Hi Folks, Prompted to post after a while off. On the down side. - I think Hughes has gone now. We're looking for a replacement. It points to the lack of support from the board for transfers more than anything. Hughes will go where he has a chance of winning things period, he'a ngotiating his transfer budget this morning not his wages- 50m and he's off. Personal money issues are not a consideration for him as fa as it goes but if someone doubled my salary I'd be out of here tommorow and so would you. - Allardyce will keep us up - but it will be truly awful to watch and I'll think very carefully about next years ST. - Anyone who thinks he's taken us as far as he can is probably right - he will go much further than us. Anyone who thinks we can do better with current resources is NUTS. - We're looking at staying up from now on or a big unlikely cash injection. And if we can do that for another manager why couldn't we do it with Hughes. - We'll be lucky to keep our best four players who are IMO - RSC - Bents - Samba - Nelson - We'll loose the excellent coaching staff On the up side. - We do seem to be able to replace the irreplacable on a regular basis. - We have just enough time to appoint before the transfer windon shuts. - Eddie might have some really excellent inside info or is brewing and drinking something highly potent which hopefully can be licensed for general consumption soon I'm holding my breath.
nicko Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 If and only IF we need a new manager, who would be on your list? I personally would like Shearer or Ince. You will need to move fast and decisively and have a plan. This will be the biggest appointment ever... Not much money, one or two players who could follow the manager out of the door [wherever he ends up]. I have a lot of sympathy for John Williams and his team at the moment.
philipl Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Interesting small print in the Rovers small print- Rovers have agreed Hughes can talk to City subject to terms and conditions acceptable to Blackburn Rovers being agreed in advance. That's the delaying tactic to give Chelsea their chance if they want it.
leftfooter Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Come back Mr Parkes - all is forgiven. Will be funny to see our Tony holding the bibs and putting out the cones again...

Flopsy Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I'm sure the Man Citeh fans will be delighted in Man Utd legend Mark Hughes managing them. If he goes, all the best to him, but to citeh? oh dear
philipl Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I'm sure the Man Citeh fans will be delighted in Man Utd legend Mark Hughes managing them. If he goes, all the best to him, but to citeh? oh dear Well City's Fair Play place is screwed- that's for sure!
Greenall_David Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 if! im saying IF he goes to CITY then i would approach steve clarke at chelsea to manage us. Vast experience from chelsea lets see..... P.S WHY would you want to go city??
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 We can't have Shearer as manager because as soon as the Newcastle job comes up, which it does on a regular basis he would be off like a shot.
Eddie Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I have absoultely no inside information, I'm simply going on the fact that we've played unentertaining football for an entire season, have had several key players underperform for large periods and we've failed to come up with a tactic that makes proper use of our strengths. Hughes has been fantastic in the transfer market, I'm worried about replacing that, but I don't think that it will be hard to find someone who can match his tactics and actual coaching. I don't think RSC will leave. Bentley already wants out anyway. Everyone else in our squad we'd be happy to sell anyway (no one on here would be upset if Benni, MGP, Samba, Nelsen, etc left as long as we got the right money for them). This won't be the end of the world if he goes.

That's the delaying tactic to give Chelsea their chance if they want it. I would assume these have already been decided so I couldn't see it holding things up too much, just a case of meeting with Hughes to confirm and get his signature. In any case it will all have been sorted by the end of the week I am sure. We'll just have to take it on the chin and move on. We've done it before.
Sparky Marky Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I'd go for Shearer.....let's go for broke....he's been flirting with management and I think this may be the job for him.....
nicko Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Every single penny staked on the Betfair Next Man City Manager is on Mark Hughes...and I mean every single penny. Something smells.
dannyboy1206 Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Only one thing has made Mark Hughes want to leave Rovers. Lack of investment he said last year and in January about the need to invest to take Blackburn to the next level. It hasn't arrived and he knows he cant take Rovers any higher. I am extremely disappointed and its going to a LONG summer and a very long season cause not only will we lose a very good manager we will most of our coaching staff as well.Relegation could be looming or am i overreacting
Eddie Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I'm sure the Man Citeh fans will be delighted in Man Utd legend Mark Hughes managing them. If he goes, all the best to him, but to citeh? oh dear He's gone. If we've given him permission to speak to City then Hughes must have told us that he's interested, if not why would we accept the approach? As far as I'm concerned Hughes is no longer the manager of this club.
iamarover Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 You will need to move fast and decisively and have a plan. This will be the biggest appointment ever... Not much money, one or two players who could follow the manager out of the door [wherever he ends up]. I have a lot of sympathy for John Williams and his team at the moment. Quite right. But I hope they were bold in the way they were with Hughes. Sparky then was an ex Pro who had played at the highest level for his clubs and had a short but relatively successful run in international management And he was someone clearly with strong character and quiet self confidence. There is someone out there with a similar background and virtually identical place in his future career. JW should be in Austria next week speaking to Slaven Bilic.
ihtd Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 We need to be looking for a new manager now. If MH is using this as a forcing of the hand for Chelsea and then Chelsea do not want him, he will take the Man Citeh job as he cannot stay here after that. The players, the board and the fans do not know where they stand under the guy now. He cannot be talking to other clubs while under contract to us and then if things don't go as planned, have us a back-up plan.
vintageadidas Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Why did we give permission? Is that purely for the £££ we will receive as compensation.
nono91291 Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I suppose Hughes doesn't think he's in the running for the Chelsea job then? Perhaps he'd prefer the City one. Interesting nonetheless, this could force Chelsea's hand if they truly are interested in him, but I would have thought they'd have done that a while ago if that was the case.

I think he would be an excellent manager.
