sparkspakespoke Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Will this be another Robinson/Friedel deal, meaning we will only sell Benni once we get in our replacement? Can you imagine Benni placedly waiting for that? Deals like the Brad/tubs dont happen like that that often. I dont think Benni has half as much respect for the club as brad has, nor is he tue model pro like big bad Brad. God I to miss him

rovers1995 Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Nicko do you mean that blackburn are willing to sell mccarthy but have given a deadline of tomorrow for any club to meet. Is there any chance he will stay and are we close to getting a replacement for him if he goes.
brfc_jonesy Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 im in favour for (Please don't use that word again)ing benni off, 7m for a 31 year old who had a shocker last season! bite there hand off, anyone is better than that jobsworth!
bringdunnback Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 I'm against this Benni sale, too much change in a squad can have adverse effects on the team. We really should concentrate on the positions that we need. Then again, In Ince We Trust.
92er Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Totally agree Nicko, Smith is an absolute liability nowadays. Outstandingly poor for the Mags last season and I doubt many of their fans will miss him. But here is the question, Johnson out to Fulham and Smith in? There seems to be an air of desperation around Goodison at the moment. What is the problem? Are they as hard up as City? By the way good shout some time ago to put some dosh on City going down. How is Hughes reacting I wonder, brave outward show but perhaps worrying a little? Nicko has said in the last few weeks he believes they have financial problems.
OJRovers Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Just to clear things up on Emerton's sprinting ability - I think that someone said he had the fastest time at the Austrialian Institute of Sport, they might have wires crossed a bit: He definately did (and may still do) hold the record score on the bleep test at the Aus Institute of Sport. So rather than pace over 30m, he is probably one of the best for endurance sprinting. QUOTE from 2006: "Last year, several sports scientists and trainers named the Australian Institute of Sport graduate as his country's fittest athlete, ahead of Rugby players, swimmers and professional boxers. In a beep test before the 2006 World Cup, he registered 15: an almost unprecedented score for someone in his late 20s."
Tom 1 Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 West Ham might be sniffing for McCarthy, aren't there rumours of Ashton being on his way?
rovers1995 Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 We don't know that Benni has a bad attitude in the dressing room that is the thing. If he goes and we don't replace him with a younger better player, we will be a much weaker team then last year and an injury to santa cruz or heaven forbid selling him we will be f###ed
Hi Mack Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Bet the striker were looking at is Saha...........Really hope not! Podolski, saviola (as mentioned before) should be the calibre of players to look at! They may say no.......but they might say yes! Ambiton Rovers Ambition!
vintageadidas Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 We need to keep Benni for this season i think. We may struggle and you never sell a goal scorer. A season for Ince to bed in his style of play, tactics and so on and then maybe let him go. If RSC gets injured and he could do, we would have Derbs, Rigters, Fowler? and Roberts to score our goals.....that is not good. Benni does go missing during games but he can pop up with a goal....Spurs away last season as an example. Yes £7m is a good deal, but getting relegated is not worth it in my opinion. EDIT: Hughes managed to take injured players a fix them for some reason - Bellers and RSC. The new team may not be as good, and we all know RSC is prone to an injury or two....look at his time at Bayern.
RibbleValleyRover Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Nicko, a Barnsley fan on another forum claims he heard on his local radio that Rigters is going on a season long loan to them, just wondering if you have heard anything? It could be BS, but it would be a good move in my opinion if true.
Fife Rover Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 West Ham might be sniffing for McCarthy, aren't there rumours of Ashton being on his way? Psssst! £8m and he's yours Tom. Can't say fairer than that. Just you 'ave a quiet word in MoN's shell-like. Nudge, nudge.

Well, someone must have slipped something into MON's drink! I went on the website this morn having been out last night so didn't read this thread, saw 'MON on double swoop' as the main story. Was expecting sod all like most days. So who knows
EwoodGlory Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 With the season starting, was looking for some bets, surely this is a license to print money, even at short odds?
Hi Mack Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Nicko any news today on the right winger? Havent been able to get much info today!Pennant and larsson are the only names being banded about at the moment!
Oklahoma Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Well, if we sell McCarthy, why should we buy another striker? We have Roberts, a very prolific striker that would be a great partner for RSC or a good replacemente if Ince plays a 4-5-1. Or Fowler, a very young striker... McCarthy hasn't had the best season but we had the poorest midfield in years and he depends a lot on good passes. If we solve our midfield problems, he will have another good season. And he is 30, btw!!!
sanlorenzo Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 And Roque, strike partner. in a (4-4-2 at home) "The Bull" Salvador Cabanas 27 year old., he has looked very impressive in internationals, along side Roque for Paraguy. Top scorer in most leagues he has played in. Roughly a goal in two played. Cabanas is valued at around 5 million, he's only has 1 year left on his contract with Club America Cabanas has great pace and is good with the head and also a free kick specialist. He would be a fantastic addition to Rovers. He thought about moving to the prem and I believe Wigan showed an interest. However, out of loyalty to Club America and a desire to win some silverware decided to stay in mexico. A steal for 5mill.

Correct it was Wigan. Can't be sure if it was this transfer window, or last January. Guess the desire for silverware puts us out of the question for now. Im sure Roque would be a big pull if he was on the radar., but I doubt it.
vintageadidas Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Salvador Cabanas - great player, also played for the same team as Villaneuva. We could get a South American theme going at Ewood.
Tom 1 Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 15M and chuck in RSC Well if you believe rumours simon...that might just buy you a Dean Ashton these days. We can hope
Kai Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 So did I but he hasn't really done much of late to be honest....I'm guessing that Nicko is going to clarify his statement by telling us that he's costing £5m+ Yeah, don't forget the mandatory 'Arsenal tax' on him. There'll be a sell on clause of anything between 20-50% in addition to that £3m + other clauses I'd imagine.
67splitscreen Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Salvador Cabanas - great player, also played for the same team as Villaneuva. We could get a South American theme going at Ewood. You can't beat utube who needs scouts. Maybe bring a bit of sunshine, with them.
67splitscreen Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Cabanas is the man, to partner Roque. 142 in 280 appearences 6 in 33 for Paraguy
