[Archived] Rubber Dinghy Men Episode 2

How many of the present squad are up for a battle ?

Ooijer- He's been a battler in the past but seems demoralised to me.

Warnock- But needs to be back in his best position.

Samba- I think he's a fighter.

Nelsen- His heart's in the right place but his form is patchy.

Mokoena- Limited technically but another one who'll scrap.

Emerton- Our best player this season, showing the Aussie fighting spirit.

Tugay- His heart is at the club but his flesh is getting weaker

Santa- Leads by example but is he getting fed up with our "style" of play.

Andrews- Certainly a trier but he's got his own personal mountain to climb.

Those are the players at the club who I think will fight for the cause- the rest for all sorts of reason I've ruled out. Most of them would probably respond to some leadership on and of the field but are wavering. One or two are genuine rubber dinghy men who've no heart for the fight and wouldn't mind a move.

Anybody else care to comment ?

Mokoena has been told to find another club in January

RSC would fight if he believed in the fight

Derbs would be a great fighter if played by weight division rather than league division

Aren't we suffering enough 'deja vu' from the Kidd reign as it is?

Crikey, you'll be coming out with the 'heart like a dustbin lid' line next :D

TBH - I don't think there's many down at Ewood that won't scrap, or have the guts to muck in as required. Some may do it in their own distinctive way, a la Tugay, but there won't be many without the stomach for the fight. Even wee Carlos has a little of the diablo in him, although it's more akin to a Jack Russell dry-humping your leg rather than biting them.

However, it's all about the leadership above them to inspire them to so do.

For some reason I think since Benni has settled down, he can be a cool head. There isn't much behind it, but I just have a feeling he has turned a corner.

A talented player but if our future were to depend on the fighting abilities of Benni then we are doomed.

Just to rub salt into the wound, on Sunday over here they screened on a show called EPL Classics our 7-0 drubbing of a Forest team that hadn't lost for 25 games. It was played 13 years ago today.

That team, even though it started the season badly, had leaders all over the pitch. Flowers, Berg, Hendry, Le Saux, Rippers, Sherwood, Batty, Shearer, Newell would all stand head and shoulders above our current lot on fight. Only Kenna and Bohenen in that 11 didn't stand out for me.

I can't think who in our current team would have got into that one.

Also the crowd seemed much noisier then, even before the goals started going in. Most of the missing thousands from those times melted away long before Ince got here.
