RovertheHill Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Just spoke to a Spurs friend of mine. He rates Chimbonda a lot and say he can play everywhere in the back four. I think he's a great player.... if we can get his head straight and focused on the job in hand

A cup of beans Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 I think he's a great player.... if we can get his head straight and focused on the job in hand im dubious that a guy who wears gloves in summer could ever focus on the job in hand!
Bobby G Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 nicko, do you know who the second player that is coming in for us is? Any news on Rothen, or Benni?
67splitscreen Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 who cares about them nicko... what are you like 35 from 36... more importantly who is the 2nd guy we are supposed to be signing today?? Tommy Spurr. Sheffield Wednesday LB can also play CB.
RovertheHill Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Whats the resell value on Chimonda and why cant he make it in the Spurs team. Don't worry - Harry will buy him back in January. Again.
RibbleValleyRover Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Tommy Spurr. Sheffield Wednesday LB can also play CB. I'd rather go for Beevers.
nicko Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Sometimes you can't see the wood for the trees...and something just dawned on me. I think Salgado is being seen in the Hierro role as a midfield anchor man. That would explain the 'three right backs' puzzle which had me scratching my head a bit on Chimbonda myself. That would give you: RB - Jacobsen or Chimbonda. CB - Samba, Nelsen, Givet or Chimbonda. LB - Givet or the newbie*. That is a pretty impressive choice and does not include Zurab. Strong and experienced. Like that. *This is not an excuse to start a new thread.
Flopsy Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Nicko, i hear what you say, but i also see what your favourite all year round website is saying. My comments on 'aces' stand, it applies to your subbies too
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Nobody expects you to reveal a name, but do you know who the newbie is?
Iceman Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Hopefully Pompey will make a bid, i reckon he would chose them over us. Are you losing it Ribble? Anybody choosing Pompey will be crazy right now. That club is in disarray even if a takeover is completed. The only chance Chimbonda might reject us, if we dont agree on personal terms.

Will you reveal the 'newbie' at 11pm tonight or is it likely to come out ahead of time?
RibbleValleyRover Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Nicko, heard any ideas on whats going to happen with Emerton? I know a lot of fans on here reckon that he could play a midfield role, i think he should be tested there but i think there is no guarantee he would be a success there. Emerton is a decent enough right back imo, worked very well on the overlap with Bentley. Chimbonda is average at 3 positions, shouldn't be our first starter in centre, left or right back. With the wages he is on surely he is a very expensive cover player who may not get much gametime? I'd rather we sold Warnock, brought in a specialist left back and bring in a central midfielder. Salgado, Jacobsen and Emerton can play right back, Zurab is decent enough in defence. Are you losing it Ribble? Anybody choosing Pompey will be crazy right now. That club is in disarray even if a takeover is completed. The only chance Chimbonda might reject us, if we dont agree on personal terms. I don't know about that. In Chimbonda's case he might prefer to stay down south and with the rumours that the takeover is complete they could offer him bigger wages. I also think he would get more game time at Pompey than at Rovers, i reckon he would be first choice there.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 I think Chimbonda will be first choice RB. Robinson Chimbonda-Samba-Nelsen-Newbie Jacobsen-Zurab-Givet-Olsson Diouf-Dunn-Grella-Pedersen Nzonzi-Andrews-Reid Red is first choice, blue is back up.
RibbleValleyRover Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Don't we all. lol i walked into that But seriously, Mark Beevers would be a decent option as a centre back.
67splitscreen Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Sometimes you can't see the wood for the trees...and something just dawned on me. herbergeehh Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Chimbonda must be seen as a starter, from what I've seen he is good enough. Salgado in midfield is an interesting plan, but let's not kid ourselves - Fernando Hierro was one of the best central defenders in the world, and had the vision and the technique of a midfielder. Salgado is a classic full back, who likes to burst forward - I am unsure whether the passing and vision is there to make it as a midfielder. We'll see though. The defence looks sound to me, although I would like Emerton to play right back. Who will play with Salgado by the way, N'Zonzi or a more attacking player?
Bobby G Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 The way nicko keeps on overlooking Zurab intentionally tells me he may be on the way out.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Who do we drop though? In the immediate future he's obviously going to play CB instead of Nelsen, but I doubt Nelsen will be dropped when he's fit. (To Sam)
Bobby G Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 There seems to be a misconception that Sam turned Hierro into a defensive midfielder. For everyones information, Hierro started his career in that position and played there quite alot for both Spain and Real.
bennyboyt11 Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 I think Chimbonda will be first choice RB. Robinson Chimbonda-Samba-Nelsen-Newbie Jacobsen-Zurab-Givet-Olsson Diouf-Dunn-Grella-Pedersen Nzonzi-Andrews-Reid Red is first choice, blue is back up. No way is Givet not first choice, the man is solid as a rock, a real gem from Sam.
RibbleValleyRover Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Chimbonda must be seen as a starter, from what I've seen he is good enough. Then god help us, he is garbage.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Who do we drop though? And for the record, I see Salgado being more of a Savage than a Hierro. He'll get his fair shares of reds.
