Thats the point though. Women, homosexuals, ethnic minorities were all treated like second class citizens. Society has, thankfully evolved since then. Which is why words such as 'Paki' werent so offensive back then but now are considered highly insulting.

Given your devotion to diversity and tolerance, you must find it exceedingly difficult to live with people who don’t agree with your ideas and views.

And your response to Bryan's comment that he "would've quite liked living 50 years ago" illustrates what a desperately confused individual you are. Pakistan hadn't even become a teenager by then and was just another big, backward, brutal far away Muslim country (the more things change...eh?) that most people hadn't even heard of.

Yes, what a wonderful world it was 50 years ago. Gay people were criminalised and hounded out of their jobs (google Alan Turing), racism was rife, domestic abuse was seen as acceptable. Need I go on?

As for manners; if people don't want to called Pakis, then just maybe you could respect that. Or maybe you can't.

Got to disagree with you there Mellers: Larry Grayson; Russel Harty; Kenneth Williams; Frankie Howard; Ted Heath; Reg Varney.

OK, I made the last one up.

Fact is, the Great British public has always loved a poof.....Just as long they didn't do it in the streets and didn't frighten the horses.

This Messageboard is getting worse. We have one poster on another thread implying Ince wasn't given a chance because of his colour, and this thread where people seem to think the term "Paki" is acceptable. Well if you read an Indian or a Pakistani newspaper you will realise that they shorten it to "Pak" over there, but frankly it's not the shortening that's the issue is it, as everyone well knows. It is the history, the context and the way it is said. For example, when Rovers fans talk about Turks it is more than likely a positive reference to Tugay. At certain England matches the same word (Turk) in offensive chants has an altogether different connotation.
