PLAYER WATCH v Sheffield United

In the case of getting a Red or a Yellow there should be a fixed score for that also. I mean you have -5 for an own goal. So when Vah Hecke got sent off after 20 mins or whatever it was that should receive a fixed score.

Picking up Yellow cards definitely affects a players performance during a game as they can't commit to tackles etc. And the effect of a Red is pretty obvious.

I usually give -2 for a careless yellow. A red like van Hecke’s deserves -5 I think.

EDIT: How about a fixed FULL game score of -5 for red cards…..unless it happens in the final 30 minutes? This would avoid red card negative scores disappearing from the averages. (Remember I set a rule that players would only be scored if they are on the pitch for at least 60 minutes).

What about 'taking one for the team' cards? Positives, surely?

I’ve thought about that….in fact you’ll see that exact phrase in my commentaries…..but in the Old Corinthian Sprit I couldn’t bring myself to give such incidents a + score! (Maybe I just ignore those incidents….zero score….heh heh!)

Thanks very much for this tonyoz. I really enjoyed going over it and by and large I think it is a very accurate reflection of our season so far. But (there's always a but lol) I was shocked to see Buckley so low in the scores. I personally think he's been a revelation this season. (when not playing as a false 9)

I am fast becoming a Buckley fan. I think he is becoming more comfortable and assured in his role (NOT false 9 or full back….as this obviously affects his scores). He still has weaknesses though…for instance he’s earned a yellow card in 4 of the recent games, his free-kicks are variable and his shots on goal are usually disappointing. If he has a disappointingly poor score in any given game, all I can say is…..I tried to justify it via the commentary. (This applies to any player, of course). However, I confidently predict his scores in the future will be higher!

Yep that's exactly what I think. The "taking one for the team" yellows still add up and if a player misses a game through 5 yellow card suspension then that's a definite negative.
