How does that benefit the ST Holder particularly?

When they’ve done reduced price tickets previously, they’ve copped some flak for undermining the value of a season ticket. I suspect what they are doing here is trying to compensate for that by saying the offer is only open to s/t holders so it’s a benefit to them alone & they can bring someone of their choosing. If it was £10 ticket to anyone, then the s/t offer is undermined more than it is by doing it this way.

It’s a bit like having a finite number of guest passes to the gym for your mates. The hope is that you bring your mate, they like it & sign up. You’re happy because your mate now goes to the same gym, they’re happy because they got a free visit or two & the gym is happy because they’ve acquired a new customer. It’s that principle.

I’ve never come across a ST holder that minds an odd offer, ‘just don’t take the piss’ being the mantra.

We offer very little these days (apart from half arsed stuff like this)

I’m not advocating it…merely trying to explain my interpretation.

It’s a classic marketing ploy using your current customers to bring new ones in…

You’re probably right, it will be in Yasir’s Marketing for Dummies.

Though what it won’t say is that football (and especially here) is a very different animal than most marketable commodities/events, but it would help if anyone down there actually understood the fanbase.

From memory I did it for my cousin the other season, may do it again (doubt he’ll be interested this season though).

End of the day why pick a midweek in December when obviously it’s very difficult to attract a floating fan, why should the stipulation/onus be on being asked by/asking a ST Holder? We’ve 20,000 empty seats. Pointless hoops.

Because, chances are, a season ticket holder/regular supporter would know about the offer rather than just a casual fan. How else would you get the message to people who wouldn't normally go?

Of course a casual fan would know if a game was made a tenner a ticket. How do you think people get their Rovers news/info these days? It certainly isn’t largely by having a chat with a season ticket holder over the garden fence.

Errrrr.....targetted marketing, email, social media, the website, the local press.

Just like how most other things get advertised.

I can tell you for a fact that my mate would definitely not have known, had I not told him .

Fair enough, but why does it need connecting to your ST?

You would tell him anyway if it was a tenner and the vast majority of folk that do follow the club via the Telegraph, social media, email, the internet in general can just get one without fannying about trying to find a ST Holder to buy them one.

Just make it a tenner, and when you email the advertising mail out to your customer database just advertise it as “tell your friends”.

That way i might tell 3 people at work who all go for a tenner, rather than the one I could bring with the current offer.

And I give that about 20 seconds thought.
