Completely agree. I don't understand why he was thought of so highly. Perhaps the L1 promotion? I remember at the time it was expected to go back up, not a surprise. Maybe it's because Venkys dropped the bar so low people were just hungry for success and he delivered it. He constantly did strange things - £7m for a kid when we badly needed defenders. £5m for Gallagher after saying we didn't have much to spend. Too early for promotion, it's a journey for "these young boys." It's not 1995. I could go on and on about this but he doesn't deserve any more time. I completely lost faith in him during the covid season.

We haven't signed a striker since Summer 2019! It wasn't a good one and he blew £5m of our transfer kitty doing it. You can't tell me that Mowbray hadn't had the opportunity to sign a striker in all that time. Although after signing Gallagher for £5m and putting him on a decent salary I wouldn't be surprised.

You can defend him all you like, but to tell us that he's supressed the ambitions of the club because it's too early, and then to say in his first season at his new club, it's never too early to get promoted. To be fair he was a prick before he opened his mouth. Just as uniformed as he was a terrible footballer. Up there with Keith Andrews for crappy players who managed to steal a living. People talk like he was just awful for England, but he was just awful.

Two excellent centre forwards have massively helped. Would love either of them here.

His insistence on not bringing in a striker here is a big reason for Sunderland getting into the play offs. We were a 16 goal striker away from being above them.

It depends on how proactive the club is in bringing in the right players and moving on those that aren't up to it. If they make up for their mistakes in January, then I'll be very positive about next season. Amazed that you can compare Carrick's squad to Tomassons. Their top 3 goalscorers had something like 50 goals this season (84 in total, the second highest amount of goals scored). Boro should have been in the automatics.
