The way to solve that is to have a proper man manager who won't take any rubbish, whether that be from the fans, media, players, managers or the FA. A rebel if you will but someone who commands respect and isn't afraid of making the big decisions, such as dropping lampard. Compare that to McClaren who has no back bone and follows the media at every turn.
He may be a good coach, but considering the resources available to him at boro he really didn't do that well. Also according to ex-players, be it they may hold grudges, but his coaching techniques are outdated but what do you expect working under fergie. As for Butcher he doesn't strike me as the type of person you would want managing a club and he hasn't really lasted in his recent adventures.
