  1. Thank you chaps. For the moment, I'll put down all the names that I've missed.
  2. The winner of the greatest ever right winger poll was Bryan Douglas. Douglas claimed 102 votes, the most so far in this series of polls. Stuart Ripley came second with 57 votes. The full result of the poll was: [number of votes, followed by the percentage vote]: Stuart Ripley, ------------------[ 57 ] [32.20%] Mike Ferguson, ----------------[ 1 ] [0.56%] Noel Brotherston, -------------[ 5 ] [2.82%] Ian Miller, -----------------------[ 0 ] [0.00%] Bryan Douglas, ----------------[ 102 ] [57.63%] Johnny Price, -------------------[ 0 ] [0.00%] John Connelly ------------------[ 0 ] [0.00%] Alan Irvine ----------------------[ 0 ] [0.00%] Louis Bimpson, -----------------[ 1 ] [0.56%] Keith Gillespie. -----------------[ 0 ] [0.00%] Brett Emerton ------------------[ 5 ] [2.82%] Gordon Taylor ------------------[ 0 ] [0.00%] Howard Gayle ------------------[ 1 ] [0.56%] George Donis -------------------[ 4 ] [2.26%] David Thomson ----------------[ 1 ] [0.56%] Total Votes: 177 The team so far is, Friedel Crompton Hendry England Le Saux Douglas Now to move onto the two central midfield positions. Lots of candidates, some real quality. This could be much closer than any of the previous polls. These are the names that come to mind, but there are sure to be many names I've missed out. We have another difficulty as well. Because we are going 4-4-2, the old inside forwards are going to struggle to get a look in. Anyway, let me know your feelings on this list - if I've missed anyone out, or included someone wrongly. Somehow, this list has to be pruned to 15 players. Tim Sherwood, Tugay, Barry Hole, David Batty, Ken Knighton, Ronnie Clayton, Mark Atkins, Roy Vernon. Stuart Metcalfe, Duncan McKenzie, Howard Kendal, Tony Parkes, Eddie Quigley, Eamonn Rogers, Harry Healess, Jimmy forrest, Alan Bradshaw, Mickey speight, Simon Barker. Mick McGrath, Gordon Cowans Peter Dobing. Graham Oates Scott Sellars Barry Ferguson Garry Flitcroft Eddie Latheron Paul Warhurst Nicky Marker Nicky Reid David Dunn Eyal Berkovic The right winger thread, I thought, was the best yet. Many of you put forward great testimonials for the players. It would be great if we had the same input again.
  3. right winger final result: The greatest right winger, ever to wear a blue and white shirt? Stuart Ripley, [ 57 ] [32.20%] Mike Ferguson, [ 1 ] [0.56%] Noel Brotherston, [ 5 ] [2.82%] Ian Miller, [ 0 ] [0.00%] Bryan Douglas, [ 102 ] [57.63%] Johnny Price, [ 0 ] [0.00%] John Connelly [ 0 ] [0.00%] Alan Irvine [ 0 ] [0.00%] Louis Bimpson, [ 1 ] [0.56%] Keith Gillespie. [ 0 ] [0.00%] Brett Emerton [ 5 ] [2.82%] Gordon Taylor [ 0 ] [0.00%] Howard Gayle [ 1 ] [0.56%] George Donis [ 4 ] [2.26%] David Thomson [ 1 ] [0.56%] Total Votes: 177
  4. Rover6, two simple questions. 1 Have you seen MGP play? 2 Did he impress you?
  5. No he didn't. Tugay went through the back of the player with both feet. As he was already on a yellow he should have showed a bit more common sense, especially as he was challenging for a nothing ball in the middle of the pitch. The second yellow was fully justified (whatever your opinion of the first) and Tugay knew it. The players on the pitch lost us the match today, not the ref, the fans, lady sodding luck or anyone else, and to say otherwise is scapegoating plain and simple. Franny Jeffers has just deliberately handled the ball, much like Tugay did last week. Hand up in the air and took the ball with him. He followed that up within a couple of minutes, by a reckless challenge on a Liverpool defender. His punishment? a yellow card for the foul.
  6. The best thing Hughes can do, is to write this season off and start on a complete rebuilding programme. This isn't a decent side playing badly, it's a very poor side playing awfully.
  7. Just got back from watching the game on TV. Until they scored, we were actually doing OK. Neither side, us in particular. were creating anything like a chance. Then bang, bang, 2-0. Two goals so simple, it was unreal. The second one in particular was just a long hopeful ball that the back four couldn't deal with. Second half, it could have been seven. Everything fell apart, even the rovers players were niggling with each other. Chelsea played one striker for most of the game and he got a hat trick, where are the centre halves. Better get used to it folks, this team is going down.
  8. If John Williams is guilty of anything, it's backing his manager too far. Maybe a wiser C.E. would have realised a little earlier what was happening.
  9. Talking about HK, he came into the club and decided straight away that we needed to become harder to beat. Is he doing anything these days?
  10. But we've nothing else to judge Hughesy on Den! And thats precisely why given our squad and position I was against his appointment. The choice of Hughes as manager represents a huge gamble by the board, and given the options available maybe too big a gamble. Howard Kendall worked out OK though. Before you say it, it was the third division and he was quite a good player himself.
  11. C.M, unless you have a reason to want another one?
  12. Aha - touche'
  13. Adopted Scouser approaches judge after recieving custodial sentence for fraudulent chocolate scam.
  14. Al.
  15. Oh, come on guys cheer up. If the club is in your heart, it wont take much of an upturn to bring the enthusiasm back. I suspect a lot of this down-heartedness is a fall out from the backward thinking that became all too familiar under Souness.
  16. Well Duggie's on his way to 100 votes. Previously Colin Hendry had the most with 89.
  17. I wouldn't judge any manager by their international record, it's totally different to club management. Just look at Peter Taylor's record as under 21 manager - excellent, club manager - useless.
  18. We're allowed 15 options on a poll, I could think of exactly 15 wingers, so not being a believer in censorship, [gulp] decided to let 'em all have a chance.
  19. Thought you were doing well until those last two sentences, Brownie. We're not in Europe now and we look more like going down, than ever before. If you get a chance in Europe - go for it. Fortune only favours the brave.
  20. I think so. Thankfully most people are prepared to give a little input to the topic, while others presumably, just want to destroy. We'll cope.
  21. LET I assume these are from the letters page of the lancs evening telegraph.
  22. I'm not certain about the year, Tonyoz. You could be right. Norwich - I went to that one. Caught the Cliff Owen's coach from Chorley about half past six in the morning. Don't think there were any motorways then. 2-2, spot on. Lots of trouble on and off the pitch. Rovers fans caused trouble around the town centre and rovers refused to have the same ref for the replay. Oh, happy days!
  23. What I said Abbey, was that we shouldn't get confused between the events of last Saturday and the general standing/sitting argument. Of course you can discuss whatever you want on here. As for the lad 2 rows in front, I take your word about that. At the end of the day, what is the clubs position on this? It is a very difficult one. Fact: the club must ensure that the home fans sit down. If they don't do that, the authorities can close down the stand. Does anyone in the BBE want that, because any concerted attempt to stand up continuously during games could result in this. What does the club do about away fans standing continuously? Well, they could wade into 8000 scousers on Saturday week. Or, they could do as required by the authorities and report the situation. Which is the sensible solution? If it was me, I would take the second option. I think, after taking most of this thread into account, that rovers are taking the correct decisions. However what I've said all along, is that they must do everything in their power, to approach the people in the BBE, with a lot more respect. Persuasion, not provocation. I wouldn't want to see anything like the events last Saturday re-occur. The club must reconsider their approach. Any stand up protests on the next home game will only make the clubs position even more difficult.
  24. With all respect Den IMO this interlinked and was the basis of the problem -including what was happening on the pitch. The club insist that no-one has been ejected because of standing. I suspect that as long as the fans in the BBE don't start to stand en-masse [like that? ], that particular problem wont crop up. But if they start ejecting people again on the slightest whim of misbehaviour, then big trouble awaits. That's all I'm saying, the club must tread very carefully and the fans must also behave.
  25. We should be careful on this thread, that we don't confuse the situation. I don't think we should be discussing the issue of standing/sitting during games. The issue is what was going on in the BBE last Saturday. The club must realise that at this time, with the fans pretty much up to the teeth with the so called football on display for the last couple of seasons and drifting away in hordes, that even THREATENING to throw the fans out, is counter productive to the extreme. Hopefully, during the Liverpool game, the stewards will take a much more tolerant view and we wont see a repeat of last weekend. That's my viewpoint, anyway.
