  1. Interesting to hear what Williams has had to say about the season tickets coming up. He isn’t stupid and knows that the club’s attendances are relatively poor compared to other clubs in the Premiership and realises that we have had a poor season, so the solution to the problem is to cut prices down to get people to renew and others to come. But say if we have a good season coming up, will they increase the cost of season tickets? Probably. THE FREEZE IS ON
  2. I thought Mourinho played it cool over the amount of interviews he gave last night. He’s a great coach and served Porto well and looks to be heading for Chelsea. I feel sorry for Ranieri out of this. Ranieri has managed Chelsea probably better than anyone else considering the amount of media speculation that has shadowed him over the season. Peter Kenyon was interviewed and from what he said it’s clear that the deal for Mourinho is going to happen sooner rather than later. If Ranieri has nothing to do with Chelsea I wouldn’t bet against him being in contention for the Liverpool job or for any other vacancy for the managerial role at another club. Mourinho to quit Porto
  3. I can’t blame Smith for leaving Leeds. He isn’t the type of player who wants to be playing First Division football at the stage of his career where he could be challenging for a place in the England squad if he was with a better club. What ever rivalry there is between Leeds and United fans I don’t think there will be the same hatred shown to Smith like we’ve seen in the past with players such as Cantona and Ferdinand. Smith was loved by the Leeds fans and they all knew he was going to leave, but whom to? I don’t understand the rivalry; to me it just seems pure hatred towards the United fans. Smith only left because he didn’t want to play First Division football. From Smith’s point of view he’s joined United to win Championships and other things, knowing that he probably won’t go back to play at Elland Road for a long time, I can’t see Leeds getting back up straight away. Smith goes to United, he’ll be playing with better players and therefore more people will take more notice of him as a player that can only mean a regular place in the England squad. Smith targets starting spot
  4. I received one too as well. I wouldn’t expect the season ticket application forms/renewals to come out for at least another week and a half no matter what the form actually says, I wouldn’t take their complete word for it. I guess they’ve sent it to fans so that they can almost spread the word through the flyer in hope to gain more season ticket holders, that’s the only reason I can think of however I don’t think it’ll work in seeing more fans wanting season ticket holders. Anyone know when you can transfer your seats? It states, "Adult season ticket from £13.16/game" What was it previously?
  5. Modi, So what? The new season doesn't start until early August. There's another ten weeks to go. CALM DOWN To be honest I think that they should have been sent out already. I’m keen to transfer my current seats to areas N01 or N02 in the Blackburn End and wondered if anyone had an idea what date you are able to transfer to different seats? I’d expect 14,500 at the most for next season’s season ticket holders if that.
  6. Yes, I think that was part of Houllier's problem Rev. The Frenchman was convinced that he was always right and everyone else was wrong. Well said. Houllier thought he was right and was the only one right. Take the game at Ewood between Rovers and Liverpool. Lucas Neill challenged Carragher for the ball, in my opinion Neill challenged wrongly for the ball with Neill approaching Carragher and the ball with both his feet off the ground. Resulting sadly in Carragher`s leg being broken, Neill was professional afterwards and apologised even so visiting Carragher. But Gerard couldn’t accept it and like his rightful self even had the courage to say along the lines of that you wouldn’t see one of my players committing a challenge such as Neill`s. Did Gerard forget about the challenge in the Merseyside Derby that Steven Gerrard committed on Naysmith? For me that was a more career threatening injury than Neill`s tackle, simply Gerrard didn’t go for the ball what so ever. Gerrard jumped into the challenge and was deseveradly sent off. After all Houllier comparing Cheyrou to Zidane says it all really.
  7. Abramovich is mad if he lets Ranieri leave Chelsea. If reports are true and suggest that Ranieri will leave to be replaced by a number of other managers from Europe then its Chelsea’s loss in my view. Ranieri has done an incredible job there considering how much money Abramovich has spent there, who has mounted the pressure on Ranieri. Abramovich who, throughout the season, not even once did he ensure the status of Ranieri at the club. Abramovich gets rid of him – it’s Chelsea’s loss, as I’m more than positive that there will be a list, too many to mention who will be interested in wanting Ranieri at their clubs. Uncle Roman thinks he knows right, I don’t know how much he actually knows about football, but it’s only a matter of time before he gets bored with his empire. To be honest I don’t see the point in a manager at Chelsea, there really is no point. The manager will always be under pressure because of the amount of money that the club will spend on players. Abramovich provides the funds to buy players for the club which should be given to the manager to choose who he feels will strengthen the squad and not Abramovich buying his “dream team.” Ranieri on the brink
  8. How many times has this particular story with Carlos been reported about? Carlos has said many times up till now that he doesn’t want to leave Madrid. I’m not sure if his feelings will remain the same after Madrid’s poor season, resulting in a fourth place finish. The money Chelsea is offering is ridiculous and has taken football past the game and into a money grabbing scheme. Real tip Carlos for Chelsea
  9. Houllier deserves to go. Throughout his time at Liverpool he has seemed to have this obsession with soaking up the pressure and then hitting the opposing team on the counter attack. Bought players for too much money and has had a very poor season for Liverpool. On Sky Sports this morning they were discussing that Gordon Strachan could be a possible contender for the manager’s vacancy if Houllier does leave Anfield. Why Houllier had to go - By Alan Hansen
  10. Looks like he isn’t. Good news. Finally Liverpool has had some sense knocked into them and getting rid of that hypocrite of a manager. Cheerio Gerard. Houllier to leave Liverpool
  11. Agree with what you said. I’d rather Tugay stays than Flitty. I’m sure if Rovers got an offer for Flitty he’d be leaving Ewood. Douglas wouldn’t he be the perfect partner for Barry though? Douglas works hard, gets stuck in and isn’t frightened of putting a foot in. This would be the perfect combination providing Pedersen arrives at Ewood soon. Douglas would sit in midfield allowing Ferguson to get forward to support the forwards etc allowing Douglas to be there if a counter attack is thrown at us. I’ll be the first to admit, Tugay is miles ahead of Douglas for skill wise etc, however when players were needed to dig in and show character Douglas was one who worked his socks off. I’m not saying that Tugay doesn’t work it’s that, would offering him a contract extension of so many years be worth it? Considering when everyone’s fit he’s not going to be first choice and money going into his pocket.
  12. So you did. You did say that Tugay has been poor this season. Sorry, I can't see how you compare Douglas as having been better than Tugay, and if he hasn't been, why the push for Douglas to be played regularly? Look at both players’ seasons. Tugay- Nobody can say that he has had the best of seasons. He’s a terrific player, I’m not disputing that but the majority of the games that he’s played in he’s been well of the pace of the game. Caught out when in possession and really only since the away game at Fulham since started to play consistently well. Long term – Age isn’t on his side, isn’t going to get any quicker, a year left at the top level, so why keep him. Douglas – Has come into the side and has done well. He’s got stuck in, worked hard and fully deserved his chance to play, but being played out of position. He’s young and can only get better.
  13. I can’t see how the number of season ticket holders will rise just because the prices of tickets have remained the same. Like RevidgeBlue says really only two games have stood out. Wolves, come on, we were playing a team who were below average. This season hasn’t been good enough, especially home performances for what ever reason, the club intelligently have realised that supporters aren’t going to pay more next season than this. The end of season wasn’t too bad but overall it was poor for what the fans pay. It’s an expensive hobby to follow, £20 a ticket, maybe more, food, drink etc, it all adds up. New fans will come and purchase season tickets, but their will be fans who don’t renew for what ever reason. I know a lot of supporters who didn’t renew after we finished sixth, so I dread to think how many won’t for this season.
  14. In my previous post I said: “he’s been played on the left wing and hasn’t done any worse than other players who have been picked in that particular position.” Not central midfield. He isn’t a left winger, so why put him there? Douglas will never be the world’s best midfielder, however he has the makings of being a good midfielder. Yes Tugay is a good player and is gifted on the ball, however for the majority of the season some of his performances have been poor. Anyone remember him getting caught in possession numerous of times at home to Chelsea? Tugay has managed to produce good performances since the away game at Fulham, but looking at his season he has been poor. Douglas has established himself in the team, I remember not playing too badly in central midfield at home to Bolton. He deserves a chance; Douglas has got stuck in and given his all. Give him a go.
  15. a young lad with tugs ability lets see???10-15 m at least. Yeah it probably would cost that amount for a player on the market now. For me I’d like to see Douglas given a bigger role in the team next season, if Douglas was given the opportunity to play alongside a player like Barry then I’m sure it would be good for him and as a partnership for years to come. People have given Douglas a bit of stick, but remember for most of the games he’s played in he’s been played on the left wing and hasn’t done any worse than other players who have been picked in that particular position. A young player on the market, £10m easily. Douglas has come through the ranks and has cost nothing and has potential to be a good midfielder. Providing he signs the contract.
  16. I think it’s time for Tugay to go. He’s been a brilliant player for the club and he’s a player that I’ll never forget. However the majority of games this season he has been well under average, passes going astray etc, easily caught in possession. It’s only since the Fulham game, where he made that fantastic pass to Cole for the goal, that everyone has wanted him to stay. Since that game he has been probably with Stead and Cole the best players for the last third of the season. Age is against him and I feel a younger player who’ll be equipped to become a better player for years to come at Rovers, whoever it may be.
  17. Great news that they’ve frozen the prices of the tickets. To be honest I think it’s more that the club have realised that they aren’t getting enough fans through the gates. We’ll never attract thousands to fill Ewood week in week out. The hardcore fans will pay the amount to watch their team, I’ll pay most prices but there’s got to be a point where it has to stop at a reasonable amount. I’m glad they’ve done what they have done, hopefully everyone will renew and perhaps there maybe a few who become season ticket holders for next season. Selling season tickets early? Doesn’t make sense to be honest. The club did this in the summer of 1996, where they sold them all early and then sold Shearer a week later. I don’t care when they sell the season tickets, as long as they’re priced for good value and there isn’t a huge loss in sales, which now I they won’t. Hopefully next season, we’ll get value for money.
  18. Isn't that the polite way of saying that you're not good enough to hold down any position regularly? More a less, you`ve hit the nail on the head. I`m like Phil Neville, except my talent hasn`t been spotted. Can`t be too hard can it? I mean anybody`s better than him at football and in looks.
  19. I would be able to play for the team if it got going no problem, if it did start the only problem would be for me to get to the particular venue. By the way I’m one of those versatile players, can play anywhere except in goal. What’s the chance of it happening?
  20. If we do get Pedersen for that mount of money, it would be a tremendous bit of business achieved by the club. Not done yet, however it could be difficult facing competition from clubs such as United and Newcastle. But with age definitely on his side, his potential can only get better and he could be at the club for many seasons to go, hopefully. £1.5m bid lined up for Norwegian winger
  21. This season has been a massive failure for Liverpool, the board said that the minimum that would be expected would be to finish in the final place for Champions League, fourth place. They have done that, but only because teams such as Newcastle and Liverpool have badly under performed this season. Liverpool finished fifteen points behind United in third place. Their play looks predictable, one player particularly has stood out for Liverpool and that’s been Gerrard if it wasn’t for him to drive himself into the ground then Houllier would have gone by now. He’s bought players that he’s over-rated and are over-priced heavily. What was it, £10M for Diouf? The board have had a life long fan willing to pump money into the club in Morgan and actually gives a damn about the club, or there’s a Thai who last year wore a United shirt on, but Liverpool obviously will make the right choice won’t they? Shame the man putting money into the club isn’t French. Liverpool snub Morgan again Cisse makes Anfield pledge
  22. waggy - My cousin (Leeds Fan) tried to get England v France tickets as a complete package, with accomadtion in a hotel. He didn`t bother in the end because of the cost of the whole package that is involved, not just the tickets. Have a look, hope it helps. ATP SPORTS EVENTS
  23. This story I thought should be discussed and Abramovich`s ways haven’t really surprised me from the story if it’s true. Seems as if Abramovich and the Porto coach have been discussing future transfers as it looks as if Mourinho will become the manager of Chelsea and who he wants to buy. Obviously Mourinho`s temperament is questionable and the English media, press will no doubt test him on this. Abramovich spoilt kid in a sweet shop, wants what HE wants and HE wants only, it seems. Mourinho's wish list puts Chelsea move in doubt
  24. If Smith leaves then he leaves and people have to accept his decision. If Smith was “loyal” then he would stay. As players say you can only play for a club first regularly if you have any chance to be considered for the England squad. It’s a chance but if Smith was to stay at Leeds he still could get considered for the England squad if he was playing Division One Football with Leeds. Several players have done it this year, James when he was at West Ham, Walker last year at Leicester so it can be done all be it that was goalkeepers being picked. You can see it from the fans` view, Leeds, United always been a crunch game for both sets of fans. He goes there and I wouldn’t expect the Leeds fans to open arms when or if Smith does go back to Elland Road. Several clubs are interested in him in the Premier League and I’d expect them all to chase Smith’s signature until he chooses which club is best for him. But it’ll end up to the highest bidder out the lot. Liverpool join Smith chase
  25. I’d be very sad to see Cole leave the club. Whatever arguments both Cole and Souness have had at the club should be forgotten in my opinion and more focus what the player does on the pitch. Cole this season has been outstanding, he’s scored goals, created goals and has hardly had any decent service what so ever from the flanks. From Cole’s comments since Saturday’s game it seems as he wants to stay but it’s up to Souness. Another player who Souness argued with, just makes you wonder who is actually in the wrong? COLE HAPPY AT ROVERS
