  1. Id say it's still a bit early to say, but the signs are not great to be honest. That said most of the squad looks well stocked except for striker and winger. We've got a lot of centrebacks now - if you consider Rodwell can play there, plus Williams and Nyambe can slot in.
  2. Realistically if any PL team comes in for him - let alone a CL club like Spurs - he's a gonner. No point deluding ourselves. Our main hope is that he does seem physically a bit off the running compared to the Premiership so maybe no one will punt the 15M+ it will take to get him. There must be a chance West Ham, Southampton etc will give it a whirl though. We may be able to hold off other Championship clubs like WBA as he does seem very happy here.
  3. Yes - we seem to have a very strong bench now with Palmer, Rodwell and Rothwell. Plus Williams is decent and we've got Nyambe coming back too. If we can add a quality target man then top six could actually happen I think. The spine of the team (Raya, Mulgrew, Evans, Dack, Graham) is great. Probably Reed and Rodwell will cement their places as well. It's a very hard working side with some genuine talent at this level.
  4. Even at the moment with the crazy fees, at Championship level £7M is money for a guaranteed top player. I don't think we paid/will pay that much for him. Just a hunch, but think it will be more like 3-4M with some unlikely to be triggered add ons to get it up to 7.
  5. I'd qualify that in that we look capable in a multiple number of systems as long as Graham is fit. Whether it's 343, 4231, 442, 4411 they all depend on Danny. Without him we lack the ability for the ball to stick up front and look very vulnerable. I guess that - obviously alongside the fee - is why Bereton is going to be under the microscope. He is going to be compared to Graham constantly.
  6. Found this at random on YouTube today. Highly enjoyable!
  7. Want him to succeed but thought he was pretty poor today. Poor touch, slow, lost the ball, looked a bit lost. Won a couple of good free kicks and had a good run at the defence but that was it. I'm confused what the plan is for him. If it isn't to backup for Graham we need to sign someone who is. Edit - my view is Brereton was certainly signed to play central as a target man as that is the sort of player we are desperate for, and what he has the attributes for.
  8. Great result! Everyone played well. Evans, Bennett, Armstrong, Mulgrew all had great games. Only minor downside is I just don't get Brereton at all. What's he point of him? Tall but doesn't win in the air, doesn't like to get in the box, dodgy technique, plays wide but doesn't have pace. Want him to succeed but I'm bemused at present. We need someone who can legitimately backup Graham
  9. Brereton has drifted wide right.looks like Dack through the centre. I don't really get it.
  10. Just checked. Rodwelli ison the bench. Alternative would be to drop Reed into dm there and bring Rothwell or Palmer on out wide.
  11. Main issue for Williams is he lacks pace so gets caught out with runners behind. Bell strikes me as a player who will improve over time like Nyambe.
  12. Agree with this. Basically we've been trying to shoe horn in both Lingard and Alli but last night showed better balance is key, even if you have less proven players. I think Lingard could still get a game as one of the front the three if someone is out injured. He's full of running, has great movement and scores goals. Alli on the other hand I am less clear. He's an awkward player to fit into a team - really needs to play as a proper 10. He might find himself relegated to a mini Fellani role where he is brought on late in games to win stuff in the air.
  13. Shows what I know. I thought we were brilliant tonight. Southgates doing a phenomenal job. Really impressed that he's changed the formation, tactics and personnel around so effectively. Rashford, Kane and Sterling as a three looks like it has legs. Very impressed with Barkley. Allround midfield looked much better than at the world cup. Lingard and Alli must be feeling a bit nervous. Lost their places I think. Winks and Barkley looked a lot more composed. I like the flexibility we have to switch between 352 and 433 with basically the same team out there. Never really been able to see England do that mid game before so comfortably.
  14. Think we will get humped. Only top players - sterling and Kane - look out of sorts. Every other player except maybe trippier (if he plays) would get nowhere near the Spain first XI. Could be brutal. Also Henderson and Stones are out.
  15. He's an odd one. Great technically but hard to say what his position really is. Reminds me a bit of Welbeck in that regard. He's only 20 though. Probs best thing for him would be to go somewhere where he is the key striker. Probs would need to go aborad to get that and CL football. He'll always be third choice at best at Utd, Liverpool, City, Arsenal. Might get a regular gig playing with Kane at Spurs, but them again they like playing one up top and Erikson behind. Chelsea maybe, weirdly they are short in strikers at the moment? But in my opinion he is exactly the sort of player who should be looking abroad for a gig. The right move could really bring him on in my opinion.
  16. Thought we were decent to be honest. Poor game but we were the better side overall. Should have won by a goal or two. I guess Southgate will keep adding new players until he sees something that really clicks. It's an interesting approach after years of having a side mostly made up of undroppable players. Real test will be to see if he drops Stirling, it's just not working for him. Rashford at least gets chances.
  17. I think to be honest we will pick a very defensive team for this - pack the midfield with all of Bennett, Evans, Reed and Smallwood. Only introduce Rothwell, Armstrong and Palmer as the game wears on. Not what I would do, but I think that's Mowbrays MO against the top sides. Wildcard would be Rodwell if he is considered fit. Could take Smallwoods place if so.
  18. I suspect Mowbray will really struggle to drop Smallwood. He likes his attitude too much. Our best team imo : ---------------------------Raya Nyambe----Lenihan----Mulgrew-----Williams ---------------Reed-------Evans --Rothwell-------Dack--------Palmer ----------------------Graham With a quarter of the season gone I'd say its a top half team possibly playoffs at this level, which is fantastic tbh. Lacks wide players though. And very dependent on Graham being fit and on form. Take Graham and Mulgrew out and we would seriously struggle.
  19. One thing out of that game : five different CMs played the role (Reed, Rothwell, Smallwood, Evans and Rodwell) who would you go for as the starting combo? For me in order they are 1) Reed (he's the best, pacy, strong in the tackle, good with the ball - why play him at RW/RWB??) 2) Evans - had a great start to the season and decent when he came on. 3) Rothwell (I would start him in the attacking three though not CM) 4) Rodwell - showed quite a bit of quality early on. Encouraging signs. Could become a first xi player soon, bit obviously needs fitness 5) Smallwood - I like his spirit, his character, but lacks the technical quality.
  20. Have to say bemused by changes today. Started well, can understand bringing Rodwell off, but moving Reed out to right wing back was crazy. Since he was moved and Rothwell went off weve really struggled. System doesn't look right either. Evans has done okay but Smallwood totally anonymous since he's come on. What was the point.
  21. I agree with this, I only really think we flipped to 3 at the back on Wednesday because Sheffield United were killing us and we needed to match them up. If we can dictate things we are always going 4231 as it suits Dack and Graham as you say. It's just frustrating the single proper wide player we have (Conway) is 33 now, losing pace and thus himself changing his game to play inside more. It really limits our attacking style to only have options who will come inside all the time - Palmer, Rothwell, Bennett, Armstrong, Reed, increasingly Conway etc. At least one decent out an out winger and it's a different story. Mowbray has broadly recruited well, but has too many central players generally. I count eight (!!) centre mids (Smallwood, Evans, Rothwell, Palmer, Reed, Rodwell, Travis, Davenport), plus Bennett who fills in there on occasion.
  22. Probs best 352 team -------------------------Raya -----Lenihan----Mulgrew----Williams --Bennett----Evans------Reed-------Bell --------------------------Dack ---------------Brereton---Graham Hmm..... I'm not really convinced by it tbh. Think 4231 suits us better. Thing is the shortage of wide players we have any formation looks a bit weird.
  23. I thought Dack did okay when he got it personally. Just the service into him was woeful. Graham, Brereton, Smallwood all had very poor games for me. Reed, Evans, Lenihan, Williams Armstrong etc all medioce. No one had a good game. If Graham gets injured (looked like he could be injured today) we will have problems I think.
