  1. Bell is always our extra man. He must be doing something right with his movement. Final ball is appalling though.
  2. Sky sports commentator sounds like he wants to kill himself
  3. Get Dack and Rothwell on. This is horrendous from both sides.
  4. Very weird formation with three sitting CMS. Think the idea is for Evans to get up and support Armstrong. Don't really rate having conway and Brereton wide either. Where is the creativity?
  5. Watched the game and England were great. I don't know much about rugby tbh, but always enjoy the six Nations and world cup. Could we realistically win the world cup this year or are the southern hemisphere still much better than us?
  6. Maybe a chance for Rothwell to get half an hour. Even give Brereton a go and drop Reed into CM?
  7. Cairneys a very good player, as obviously is King - as can be seen from their subsequent careers. With the benefit of hindsight there's a strong argument to say we should have sold Rhodes and played King and Gestede up front, and held onto Cairney and played him in the middle. But that's hindsight for you.
  8. Nyambe can play centre back to I think? But yes Williams has more experience. I imagine both will be on the bench to give us the best range of options.
  9. To be honest Id be very happy if we got Gallagher. Just feel we are one injury to Graham from being in a very sticky spot.
  10. I don't know, I think Dack could actually make it as a Premier League number 10. He's exceptionally gifted. I could see a bottom half team giving him a whirl. If we don't go up this season I think he's a gonner to be honest. Someone will bite.
  11. We could end up with something like this? --------------------------Raya Nyambe---Lenihan-----Rodwell----Bell ------------------Travis-------Evans ------------BA-----------Dack------Armstrong -------------------------Graham Subs : Leut, Mulgrew, Williams, Bennett, Rothwell, Chapman, Gallagher Yes please! Quality all over the pitch and on the bench.
  12. Like others have said I can't see us changing to a system without a "in the hole" role for Dack. But that does not necessarily rule out 442. Plenty of number 10s (and that's what I consider Dack is) have profited very well in a 442 - Sheringham, Le Tissier, Zola, Bergkamp. Obviously they were higher level players but the point stands. Though I guess the fly in the ointment is I can't really think of a number 10 in a 442 playing at the moment? In fact very few teams play 442 at all. Also if we've got cash to spend and we're trying to go up it would be reasonable to sign both Gallagher and BA. Then we would have 2 pacy forwards who can also cover wide (BA, Armstrong), two target men (Graham, Gallagher) and two number 10s (Dack, Rothwell). That means we would have the cover for injuries and we can swap players round if they go off the boil. If we just sign BA if Graham gets injured we could struggle.
  13. If we can't BA I'd go for gestede, he's at Boro too and according to a report I saw available. Would play the Graham role very well.
  14. If the money's available going for BA makes sense. He's got great goal scoring pedigree, and that's what we need to drive us up into playoffs. If Venkys have been waiting for right tactical moment to spend now is a very good one. If we don't go up holding onto Dack and Lenihan will be very difficult. May as well go hell for leather.
  15. Buying or loaning a top striker now would make a lot of sense. Don't think that's Tony's style though. He'll want to be loyal to the existing players who are performing.
  16. To put it bluntly we look good enough to go up. If you step back it really is the introduction of Travis and Rodwell that have changed everything. The spine of the team (Rodwell-Lenihan-Travis-Evans- Reed-Dack-Graham) is very high quality for this division. Also players previously who looked a bit dodgy earlier in the season - Armstrong, Bell - seem to be seriously improving just at the right time. I'd put some of that at the feet of Travis also as he has totally transformed our energy and mentality in midfield - providing more protection for the back and getting the ball forward better.
  17. I think we'll probably stick with 4 at the back as we've won the last three with that. If that's the case Mulgrew will definitely play if fit ahead of Rodwell due to his goals and he's the club captain.
  18. I think if we somehow manage to keep our current squad together (including Lenihan, Dack and Rodwell), sign Reed, add a winger, a left back and find a genuine 20+ goal striker we will go into next season as expected to make play offs. Think we will really struggle to keep Dack and Lenihan though. Likely to get major bids. If Travis keeps performing we will be fighting to keep him also. Also finding a top striker is very difficult. On the other hand Reed looks doable as while very good he doesn't seem out of our league, but depends on the sort of fee Saints want.
  19. As for Rodwell, it's likely there is some sort of extension clause in the contract but probably non binding on either party. That said the chances of him sticking with us are pretty high. He's playing well, obviously gets on with the manager. I doubt after his checkered past he will be looking for a new move that could be disruptive to his rehabilitation. I'm sure if we offered him he will stay. While good his performance have not been so amazing to tempt a prem team to swoop in and take him. Could be with us a while I think.
  20. I just don't really think Rotheells a wide player to be honest. Like Armstrong and Bennett he can do a job there but at best he's an inside forward sort of player. It's horses for courses sometimes, and reasonably regularly we need some genuine width.
  21. I know what you're saying but Tugay was a genuine world class player not far off the likes of Pirlo and Scholes. Mulgrews got good technical ability, but he's absolutely no where near the likes of them. Most crucially he's slow on the turn, as if you not blessed with pace you can mitigate that with turning neatly away from danger. Tugay was absolutely exceptional at that. I think Mulgrew would get caught with the ball a lot in midfield.
  22. Yeah, Mulgrew way too slow for full back. When Mulgrews fit again he has to play as he's club captain and for his goals. Also I can't see Mowbray wanting to drop Rodwell. I think we could well see three at the back and two up front to fit them both in. ------------------------Raya -------Lenihan----Rodwell---Mulgrew Bennett------Travis------Reed---------Bell -------------------------Dack -------------Graham-----Armstrong
  23. Reed and Travis would be a superb central midfield, and to be honest we could just move Bennett up to wide right and play Nyambe right back to facilitate it. Think that's where we will be in around four or five games, as Mowbray moves on these thing slowly.
  24. Good summation that. Weak opposition today, but Travis offers a real step up in quality in the middle, and that has big benefits for everyone in every position. I'd stick my neck out and say best all round midfielder we've had since we were in the prem. We are both more dynamic with him in there, more composed, and defensively more solid. Like Dack he had Premier League player written all over him. It's mad that we seem to have been thinking to loan him down to League 1 a month ago. As for Nutall he's a much more basic player but to his credit you can see from the off what his game's about. He unsettles defenders with his strength and pace, and gets in the box and scores goals. Like Night and Day compared to Brereton. The emergence of those two is a great help to us. Is there a left back in the undrr 23s we can elevate to solve another problem position?? Seriously with Raya, Lenihan, Nyambe, Travis, Dack, Armstrong, Rothwell and Nuttall we do have a very promising young squad which - if we somehow keep it together - we could enjoy watching for years.
