  1. Thought this was the case with most loans to teams lower down the leagues
  2. Got Downing & Rodwell and Williams. I think that's enough
  3. I'm hoping next season is the year that the management structure really attempt to give a big boost to season tickets. They are trying to build links with the Asian community which is great and hopefully this pays off over the longer term. I've always been a bit curious as to why such a low percentage of the Asian community attend the Rovers, i've got a few ideas but i don't know how accurate they are. I hope they do a Huddersfield or Bradford style low ticket price to try and tempt people on the fence back in. It doesn't feel like we took advantage of the high of last season. As other posters have suggested a flexi ticket could work for some but its key that we start top branch out our promotional stuff to a bit further afield. We've got pockets of fans all over Lancashire that got out of the habit of going, we need a kick to try and get them back. Busses is a great shout for places like Chorley, Leyland etc.
  4. I'd agree wingers are the area i'd look to improve before the window closes. I disagree on Bennett though, i'd prefer him to be playing CM but he's still a decent option out wide, he balances the side quite well especially if say Armstrong or Palmer was playing on the left wing. He can get up and down and when he is position can cross (see Hull away). He's a good defensive winger and is 10 times more useful than Conway who is the alternative. We're still a bad injury in the wrong area short of a problem. But I think we've got enough options everywhere to cope.
  5. Our Squad assuming Brereton signs today as expected. Keepers - Raya, Leutiwiler, Fisher Right Back - Nyambe - Players who can fill in at Right back - Bennett, Lenihan, Reed Centre Backs - Lenihan, Mulgrew, Downing Rodwell, Who can fill in at CB? - Williams, Nyambe, Left Backs- Bell, Williams Who can fill in at left back? - Mulgrew Centre Mid - Davenport, Evans, Smallwood, Reed Who can fill in Centre Mid: Rothwell, Bennett, Dack, Lenihan, Rodwell Wingers: Conway, Bennett, Players who can play out wide: Rothwell, Palmer, Armstrong, Brereton, Samuel. Number 10's: Dack, Palmer, Rothwell Players who can play as a 10: Bennett Strikers: Armstrong, Graham ,Brereton, Nuttall, Samuel. Travis to be sent out on loan to League 1. Tomlinson to go out on loan if anybody wants him, he's not going to be a long term option for us Whittingham, Caddis, Hart, Gladwin (Injured) surplus to requirements. won't be near the first team Samuel you might as well take off the list as it appears that his injury could be a bad one. Also Conway is very ineffective going forward these days
  6. Thats why i'd use the last loan slot for a wide player. We've got Graham, Armstrong, Brereton up front. And Nuttall if your desperate. We usually play with one up and one in the hole. We've got Dack, Palmer, Rothwell and Bennett who can play there so I think we've got enough options through the middle.
  7. I don't think a keeper should be a priority at this stage thats one for January. A loan for Fisher can wait till then. Rodwell is the 4th centre back, whether you like it or not. We will be going back in for Bauer in January with Downing going back down to league one. Brereton by the sounds of it could be done today so thats our striker. That leaves us with 1 more loan left till we make Brereton a permanent in January (which opens up another slot). I'd use the last loan to get an out and out winger if possible.
  8. I’d go Leutwiler Travis Downing Rodwell Bell Reed Whittingham Conway Palmer Rothwell Nuttall subs: Raya, lenihan, Smallwood, Bennett, graham & whoever else is fit enough to play. If Samuel, Davenport or Williams were fit I’d be starting them but I don’t think they are.
  9. Raya Nyambe Lenihan Mulgrew Bell Travis Bennett Evans Dack Rothwell Graham Subs: Leutwiler, Downing, Rodwell, Smallwood, Conway, Palmer, Nuttall Want Bennett CM after second half Wednesday but he brings balance to the midfield out wide so would go Travis wide right to help us keep shape also I think Watkins their danger man plays left wing so can double up on him. Give Bell freedom to push up the left flank, with Rothwell getting closer to Dack and Graham for link up play. Leaves Palmer as the main attacking option off the bench.
  10. Some thoughts: I've been a massive critic of Evans for the last few years but yesterday I thought he was outstanding, maybe the best i've seen him. The drive of him, Rothwell and Bennett really picked up the players around them and nearly drove us to a win from 2-0 down. Rothwell was a signing I couldn't quite understand, didn't see where he would fit in. But last night he put a real marker down. Technically he looks very good, can dribble can pass, looks two footed, has a decent shot on him. He struggled to get involved in a lot of the first half, But what impressed me more was his drive in the second half. Always showed for the ball and looking forward with his passing. He kept running, closing them down, put in a couple of crunching tackles too. He's a nailed on starter for saturday after that. Not seen that many people talk about Bennett so I thought i'd give him a lot of credit for the comeback. He was everywhere in the second half, drove the team forward and won the penalty without which I don't think we woul've got anything from this. He would've been my man of the match. Opinion - Bennett in Cm last night was more effective than Smallwood has ever been for us. Smallwood looks like he's about to be out of the starting 11 for the foreseeable future. Whether the pressure of us getting in players to compete with him has unsettled him, or more likely that he just can't do it at this level. He seems too off the pace for me, can't impact games. His composure is not existent at the moment. His performances second half of the season last year definitely declined as the year went on but i've defended him on here as I thought some criticism has been a tad harsh but I think Bennett offers us a lot more in cm playing next to Evans. I much prefer Bell to Williams. Lenihan had a poor game last night. Nuttall is more useful than Samuel but he needs to go on loan to League 1. Conway is completely finished imo. Nyambe keeps improving, he needs to learn how to cross though it would really help his game. Could do with Dack, Armstrong and Palmer all being fit for Saturday
  11. I felt if we had Chapman instead of Conway second hald we would've won that game. I find it really painful watching Conway these days. He's clearly past it, sad to see.
  12. I thought Barrow was recalled by Swansea at the end of August or start of September because they were short on wingers
  13. My team; Raya, Nyambe, Lenihan, Mulgrew, Bell Smallwood, Bennett, Palmer Dack Rothwell Armstrong Subs: Leutwiler, Downing, Travis, Evans, Conway, Nuttall, Graham. A few thoughts; keep Armstrong up front try and use his pace on the counter. wide men to play a bit narrower and congest the middle. Keep the creativity going from Rothwell, Palmer and Dack. Sack Samuel off completely because I don't rate him. Bennett and Smallwood would cover more ground and provide more aggression than Evans so I've gone for those two. Graham is a very handy option off the bench
  14. What kind of striker is Ben Brereton? anybody seen much of him?
  15. Agree, I really would take a gamble on Chapman if we can get him. He's a game changer
  16. I agree with TruRover that we should be targeting a good cup run. I just think with Carlisle being so poor that we can get away with playing a second 11 of sorts. Or at least those who need some game time. I'd go Leutwiler Travis Downing Williams Bell Davenport Whittingham Armstrong Palmer Rothwell Nuttall Subs: Raya, Lenihan, Nyambe, Bennett, Conway, Samuel, Dack,
  17. Its hard for me to judge at this point how successful we've been as there's still scope for us to fix a few things with a few loans to buy. As I've noted in other threads i'm not as doom and gloom as others but i'd rate the window as a 6 out of 10 so far. But judging from Mowbray's comment at the start of the window it looked like we wanted 6 transfers in total; 4 permanents and 2 loans which we haven't got. Positives: - New contracts for Dack and Lenihan - Didn't lose anybody we wanted - Davenport; was a great surprise when we got him on a permanent transfer rather than a loan. Looks a strong piece of business for us although he won't go into the first 11 straight away. Centre Mid was been one of our weaker areas for some time so hopefully he's the long term solution. - Palmer; On paper a very good loan signing. Although I don't like developing other teams players he is a lot better than I expected us to get. He's highly rated, has some experience in the Prem, has experience getting out of this league, Can play in more than one position so gives us options. -Armstrong; Was very pleased we've got him. Good price (£1.75million) for this market, he's only, 21 has bags of pace, can slot straight into the side. I didn't expect us to spend this much one player - We've not overpaid for anyone (eg. £2million for a cb in league 1 with one year left on there contract) - If we end up with Gallagher and Chapman on loan with a permanent agreed for January then that for me would make it a good window. - As the squad stands I think its good enough to stay up which is the minimum requirement. Even if Danny Graham gets a bad injury Negatives - We didn't get players in early enough in the window. - We've not shifted any deadwood out yet, loan or otherwise (Gladwin, Hart, Caddis, Whittingham) which to be fair is tough - Scott Warton went on loan to league 2 when he could should be playing in League 1 (If we'd got a centre back in early on then he would've gone to league 1) - Rothwell; I don't get this signing, thought Payne looked a better bet than him. Not sure where he fits it tbh. Doesn't seem to be a centre mid, he didn't impress out wide in pre-season and we've got better options there, and Palmer is a better option in the hole. Was he a stop gap in case we didn't get anyone else? If someone can explain this one to me a bit more i'd like to hear it! - No Striker (as of yet) - we are desperate for a back for Graham, we all know this. - No Winger/ wide player - we have a lot of options out wide when you count them up, but not that many natural wide players, would've liked to have one more quality wide player or someone like Chapman who has x-factor. Disappointing but we can live without. - No Commanding CB - could be a big issue if we get an injury to Lenihan or Mulgrew. Also we need to be preparing for Mulgrew to leave in the summer. - We actually had plans and targets for a transfer window and it hasn't worked - We moved for a lot of players in the last few days of the window and got nobody - thus getting everyone hopes up and not delivering - We play the poor card but now teams know we've got up to £million to spend Have I missed anything?
  18. But it’s not the last minute though is it? In effect if we structure deals correctly we’ve got until 31st
  19. I agree about building a team on loans, Plenty of time to agree loan deals with permanent fee in place. We definitely need another striker. But it looks it will either have to be a loan with an option to buy or just a straight loan option. Can we survive with what we've got for the next 7-10 days? Yes we can. We aren't short of players that can play out wide atm, Bennett, Palmer, Rothwell, Conway, Armstrong, Samuel. Obviously we'd like another option (personally would like an out and out winger). Still think we will end up with Chapman as well on loan. I'm surprised by people reaction on here a bit. I'm not sure what people expected? I wouldn't be criticising Mowbray or anyone else at the club until we've concluded our business which won't be until 31st August
  20. With Three weeks of the window left, I feel this is a massive overreaction.
  21. Any team that loses their top 2 attacking players are going to be in trouble. Palmer is back up for Dack as a 10 and can push for a start out wide so we are stronger there. Rothwell or Davenport could force their way in over the next few months in CM. Anyways we aren't risking getting by until January with what we have. The loan window doesn't shut until the end of the month and we'll just pick someone up there on a loan to buy or just a loan. I'd rather we not spend money for the sake of it.
  22. Jesus, overreact much? We've still got till the end of the window to get loans in. Even if we're stuck with what we've got till January its not a total disaster, cheer up!
