Personally, and I guess I'll get slated for this from some, I'd go for Joe Royle. He certainly has Premiership experience, has done a good job at Ipswich with minimal resources and has brought on the talents of young players like Bowditch, Bent and Westlake. I could see him doing a good job for us as he has with Ipswich (they lie 3rd in The Championship at the moment). However, if I remember correctly, at the time he was appointed at Ipswich he said it'd be his last managerial move, so maybe he's off limits. Just a thought.

Shocked. Stunned. Incredulous. But most of all, gutted. I can't blame Souness for taking the Newcastle job as it's a brilliant opportunity, I'm just very sad to see him leave as he is a manager who I have true respect for; dragging us up by the bootlaces from the First Division back to our rightful place in the Premiership, to cup success and Europe. After the likes of Kidd and Hodgson I didn't expect to see us achieve anything like that. He had a passion for the game which always made me proud to have him as our manager. He got us playing good football; signed big-name players, the likes of Cole, Yorke (well, he was at the time) and Ferguson. Brought through talented youngsters; Stead, Douglas, Duff and Dunn and, in my opinion, made us a sort of 'family club' - if that means anything! His spats with referee's were legendary, coupled with his post-match interviews and he was certainly the best-dressed manager in the Premiership. Souness had a bad time of it last year with bewildering tactics and under-performing players and in my heart-of-hearts I thought he'd probably taken us as far as he could. I'd like to take this opportunity to say that Souness was a splendid manager for the club and reinstalled in me the belief that Blackburn Rovers FC could compete with the 'big guns' once again. He deserves our gratitude and I wish him all the best at Newcastle (so long as they don't beat us on Saturday).

It's probably just Jan, Jim Mk2 and rover6 placing huge bets out of desparation in the hope Newcastle will take note of the odds...

The fact that these players cost £17mil. (Duff), £12.25mil. (Ronaldo), £12mil. (Robben) makes them seem a luxury to me.

Just watched the highlights on Match Of The Day... Once again, robbed. Blatant handball and the extra minute. Although, saying that, Johansson handled in the area - it would have been a very harsh penalty, but arguably a penalty none-the-less. Amoruso's red card looked fairly legit; can't complain there really. Friedel looked superb; couldn't say much for the other players as all the clips were Manchester United dominated... We can take heart from the point and, with Newcastle leaking goals without a solid defence, we can hopefully take something from there too. I can get to sleep reasonably happy tonight.

I don't really know what to predict as I don't have a clue what team we'll put out! Assuming Pedersen signs, I'd like to see him start against Utd (what better way to see if he can cut it in the Premiership?) with a team of: Friedel-Neill-Amoruso-Short-Gray-Emerton-Thompson-Ferguson-Pedersen-Stead-Dickov (maybe swapping Emerton and Tommo with Tugay replacing the Aussie). I'm going to be optimistic and predict 2-0 to Rovers. Lady Luck finally smiles on us; Dickov scores a penalty and Amoruso wraps things up with a late header.

Man United couldn't live with them, Everton got taken apart, Middlesbrough spent money on established, quality internationals and were trounced. I didn't expect us to do any better to be honest, but at least we gave as good as we got in the first half (why do we only seem to play well in different halves?). Arsenal are just different class to anyone else we'll face in the Premiership with a wealth of quality at their disposal and a freshly-made unbeaten record. Again, Souness' tactic seems to have been to stifle Arsenal with defenders/defensive midfielders and it worked fine till we went behind then we just fell apart, as so many clubs have when facing them. I keep supporting Souness, but I'm also getting fed up of having Gresko and Matteo in midfield. Maybe against Man Utd we'll see a 'proper' team We need some points, and soon!

Would those be the games that saved us from relegation? It was trying to play nice, fancy football that cost us dear last season - partly because, although it created chances, the strikers didn't put enough away till Stead came along and partly because the defence couldn't defend for toffee. Souness has made some hard decisions with regards tactics, dropping flair in favour of grit when it was he who encouraged us to play that very way. I'm not particularly optimistic that this season being much better than last, particularly with the proceeding 3 games, all I'm saying is; it's a new season - give him more than 2 games.
