Stuart Hall (5 Live's commentator) said that Youri had a very quiet game apart from setting up the second goal, any truth in that? -

Knowing us we'll either lose, or play a blinder, and lose. -
On the basis of the ringing endorsments for Mike England, I will vote for him (when the time comes) even though I've never seen him play. I've never seen George Best play (well, not live or for more than a few minutes worth of video) but I appreciate he was a great player. Colin Hendry was, however, a great favourite of mine - he looked like some Scottish tribal warrior and his physical presence and shear power were mightly impressive. He also made Mark Crossley look a right pillock with a header that Crossley managed to spoon over the line, so he can't be bad! Hopefully the greatest ever Rovers XI will be a 4-4-2 and then both can be a part of it

To be fair to M-K, I do remember having to defend Shearer's England selection to a number of people. Can't we just leave it that they're both fantastic players in their own rights, but with different attributes? Shearer, in my opinion, is the most natural goalscorer I've ever seen play - completely instinctive - while Rooney is an exciting, developing prospect more in the Henry mould.

[Archived] Charlton Athletic 1 0 Rovers
Tango replied to den's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
My predictions this season have been utterly hopeless so I'm not gonna bother (predicted Everton and Bolton to go down for example and find them now in 3rd and 4th ). Previously I have predicted Leeds to win the league - the year they went bankrupt and nearly got relegated, Arsenal to have a poor season due to lack of squad depth - the year they go unbeaten, and Blackburn to make Europe - the year we end up 15th and surviving only by the skin of our teeth. So I'm going for a Charlton victory. 5-0, something like that. -
I see a convincing victory on the horizon; a youthful Rovers team, buoyed by their first victory and inspired by new manager Mark Hughes trounce Bournemouth 6-0. Goals coming from Jansen, Stead, Ferguson (2 - 1 a penalty), Amoruso and Bothroyd.

My favourite song at the moment has to be Embrace's - Gravity. It's just simply stunning, breath-taking, awe-inspiring... Ok I've gone a bit over the top there but it really is a great song. You can listen to it on their website by clicking here and then clicking 01. Gravity [Hi] Enjoy.

Nice to see Souness hasn't changed a bit Howaythetoon Link Scroll down and read the guy's rating for Souness - in particular the bit about substitutions and players' positions -
[Archived] Mark Hughes - Good Choice ?
Tango replied to Ste B's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
He was my first choice (although I think the only comment I made on the new manager thread was to advocate Joe Royle ) as he's a battler, a grafter and above all commands respect. Just the kind of person we need in charge at the present time. Bring on Pompey! -
Another game.... I like it! Liverpudlian Brewer exiled in Dubai.

Then again, when Newell was manager of Hartlepool he blew a 14 point lead in the Third Division and they finished up runners-up; hence his contract wasn't renewed.

That's where you're wrong grizfoot! My uncle's, neighbour's, local fishmonger's, daughter's, hairdresser's, niece's Welsh pen-pal living in Oslo had that information hours ago. Was hoping the information wouldn't make it into the media and that I could make a packet on Betfair but now Ossydave's gone and blown it.

At least we'd be able to exterminate the opposition with him in charge... *Tumbleweed rolls into view*

I think Mark Bowen was forced to quit Birmingham City in order to coach for Wales when he had hoped to do both. I'll see if I can find a source to back that up. My Dad's, mate's, vet's, teaslady's hamster should be able to tell me. EDIT: Here you go.

I thought Advocaat was massively successful when he first joined Rangers, but then Martin O'Neil went to Celtic and he quickly lost his stranglehold on the Scottish Prem. I could be wrong though.
