  1. I'm not sure what all of your post means to be honest. But I understand you can't buy the LET in your local newsagents. Help is at hand though - do you have the internet ??? The LET gets delivered to the internet every day sometime after lunch. People post links to it on here, roughly ... every day. It's just like being in Blackburn, especially if you print it out.
  2. I think the Indie may be struggling to afford anything better Jim. Your post kind of explains why he's coming out with so much rubbish about Rovers - he's probably upset Sir Alex and Keegan the Clown and is picking up what he can without spending too much on petrol.
  3. Only if you scan in your bus pass, Senior Citizens RailCard and pension book and display them as pictures in your signature
  4. The ship's been supping South Australian wine all night by the sounds of things and is heading towards the harbour wall, not altogether in a straight line. You want to be careful out there, the area is well known for causing involuntary bouts of questionable posting on here and on msn.
  5. Standing order now set up. It's so easy !
  6. ok ... £120 per month. I've never directly contributed money to the site and there must be many more like me who derive a benefit (eg get annoyed when it's gone off line - or even just use the forum to give an opinion) who haven't coughed up either. Guilt trip time for all of us. The site has moved from pillar to post in its quest to remain "free to air" and relies entirely upon a group of individuals who give up hours and hours of their time and more to the point their expertise. When that expertise is used in their day jobs it's charged at hourly rates probably way beyond the above figure needed to run this site for a month. I'm clearly going to project one message - let's pay for what we use. If it costs £120 / month that's (rounded up) £1500 a year. Let's pretend that the figure of 2500 users is rubbish - it clearly is - let's pretend that there are only 500 users. 3 quid a year from 1/5th of all users ?? ?? ?? OK it won't happen. Let's pretend there are only 100 users - those that actually write the stuff that the other 2400 like to read - note to myself and the other 99 - we can keep it going for the same as a single bus fare from Blackburn Station to Ewood once a month, just about. £1.10 x 100 x 12 = £1320.00 - very nearly there. FINALLY AND MOST IMPORTANTLY there's enough expertise and savvy and experience from the regular readership of this site to be able to move it away from personal donations and towards a more commercial financial footing. That absolutely rules out the likes of rivals and footymad and all the others which this site consistently betters. I have absolutely no link with the people who run this site other than through meeting in concourses and pubs at games, so whatever I say is my opinion and only my opinion. I'd like to think that there are people out there who can help this site meet its costs without begging from members or bowing to commercial pressures. PM me (cos I haven't cleared this post with the mods) with any ideas or suggestions ... more importantly - analyse your use of the entire world wide web ... and score this site against the rest of the internet. Is this site important ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
  7. Jordan, they got it from Alan "Maradona" Nixon in the People as discussed widely elsewhere. Souness (direct quote) on BBC this morning says he's happy with his squad and is concentrating on preparing them for the season. I reckon Cole will be going to Germany.
  8. It doesn't matter how it's dressed up - it still all boils down to supply and demand. Wolves had sold out their season tickets for this coming season before they knew what division they'd be playing in, never mind when Sky might put them on ppv. Why? Because more people want to go than can get in, so the people who are already in won't let their seats go, and those that do are instantly replaced. Any other excuse at Rovers is just that - it's an excuse that says "we all know we can get in to any game we want" dressed up in 15 different ways, from blaming Sky, to blaming Duff, to blaming Saunders, to blaming the pies, and from now on I should think Maradona's gonna cop a load as well.
  9. Oh look it's in the Independent. That's the rag Alan Nixon writes for in his spare time, when he's not inventing for the red top mob. He can't have too much spare time, spouting the sort of manure he excretes must be pretty much a full time commitment.
  10. Yeah Cascarino's is the best football book I've ever read, maybe slightly biased because I worked in Nancy (Fr) and lived down the road from his flat so empathised with much of what he wrote about the place! He ended up with freedom of the city though, not sure why I didn't ... The worst football book I've read is the Shearer effort when he talks about creasoting the garden fence. It's in large print, primary school language ... I started reading it (thankfully borrowed not bought) on a flight to Hong Kong as it taxied at Heathrow, by the time we flew over Amsterdam I'd finished the flippin thing.
  11. Sh!t, who we playing?? I used to read loads (TV hadn't reached North Lancs in the mid-80s, well not our house anyway) but these days only when travelling or on holiday. Recent splurge on holiday in May concentrated around football - The Football Factory and England Away (John King), Niall Quinn's autobiography, When The Kids are United (Tony Hill) and something else which has returned to the person I borrowed it from and can't even remember what it was. Quinny's book was first class.
  12. The SSN reporter had to practically suck the word "upset" out of Flitcroft's mouth. And as Percy said he's only not "really" spoken to Souness about it. So he has a bit then. As for negative spin let them get on with it. The vibe at Brockhall is anything but negative. New faces, new captain, all the important elements solidly behind Souness. Look at Matteo's highly positive quotes about Souness in todays LET, add them to Dickov's, Ferguson's ... Any lingering bad taste exists from the likes of Yorke and Todd and Cole. Two will not feature, with luck they can depart. Cole is due a significant bonus pay out if he reaches the end of his contract ie next summer, so he'll toe the line. Flitty can choose to plot his own course, but he'll soon realise he's part of the past not the future.
  13. Would you make your mind up ? Since coming back from your self-imposed exile you've been saying bring in the kids, and continually slating our "star" players such as Cole and Yorke. Can't argue with that. But now you're saying we need a "big signing" - like who, with what, and where from ? ANd whay the change ?
  14. The Sky News item is very ... well, very Sky News. It comes in at a ridiculous angle and sticks to that angle - that there's dressing room unrest at Blackburn. Transcript from start: It cuts to Flitty being interviewed but his first words as broadcast show that they weren't the first words on this subject Flitty also says he'll just knuckle down and get on with his football. The reporter carries on to claim that this is not the "ideal start" 2 days into pre-season and that it has "overshadowed the arrival of the new faces". More lazy journalism. Whatever, I'd agree that it would have made sense to tell Flitcroft of the change - maybe his mobile was switched off. On the other hand, looking to the future, it makes even more sense to ensure that the whole squad arrives on the first day of pre-season knowing that there's a new skipper. It's a clear statement that last season is history, from day one of this pre-season there's a new focus.
  15. Can you remind us of the negative statements ? I'm struggling to remember Souness and/or Williams admitting to the assembled journalists that we were out to lose a few cup games. And lack of finance is only a factor because as you and Scotty and FLB and UT Cobley point out, there's no-one in the queue to replace the skint people. If Rovers relocated to Chalfont-St-Latimer there'd be thousands lining up for JW Central season tickets. So finance remains a secondary factor behind the one and only primary factor - supply and demand.
  16. He meant fewer of us. Otherwise that bit isn't under any dispute. What is worth nipping in the bud is the idea that selling certain players or the style of play or comments about cup ambitions are primary factors in influencing season ticket sales. They may be secondary factors, but all the evidence from all over the country is that football crowds are growing. Rovers are bucking that trend because supply outstrips demand. Leeds have sold the family silver, the family, and the rights to adopt the tea lady's kids. They'll still have a bigger average crowd than us next season.
  17. Last Friday I had a meeting in Liverpool (which is rare) and had some free time after it finished. I was driving back up the A59 to the motorway and suddenly saw a sign which sparked a thought and next thing I'd turned right towards Anfield. I'd only ever seen the Hillsborough Memorial on Rovers away match days, always hundreds of people around. On the spur of the moment I wanted to go and reflect there on my own. I parked at the "front" of the ground near the shop and walked round the side to Anfield Road where we go in to the away end. I thought there'd be no one around, but there was a car parked next to the memorial. Looked like a family, or at least a mum with teenaged children. They were either on the way to or back from a funeral, judging by the way they were dressed. Across the street, pacing around, was this guy who had clearly got out of the car to let his emotions go. I was quite choked and walked on, waited 10 minutes and went back to the memorial. A few scarves, flowers, a message from some PSV fans, the eternal flame and all the names. Now for all the people who say "let it go" I'd just say this - football is emotional, injustice is emotional, needless loss of life is more emotional and the memory of loved ones is quite something else. I get fed up of reading comments relating this to Liverpool stereotypes. What happened in Sheffield could have happened to any of us. It could have been any football supporters of any team in this country. If a few folk have found the way to keep up the battle in memory of the people they lost by reminding fellow football fans in forums such as this one then I think it deserves more than a shallow "move on". I'll stop there, because there are some contributions to this thread which don't merit any further comment.
  18. No, yes and no. Because anyone can see that Rovers can never ever be a viable or successful business - the numbers don't add up and will never add up. The trustees are supposed to be ensuring that all of Jack Walkers businesses - the whole portfolio - are properly run. Witness the growth of flybe. Well run, expanding, great prospects. The commitment to Rovers goes no further than ensuring the safe survival of the football club. I should imagine that John Williams had quite a hard time persuading the trustees to part with the money which boosted income by the equivalent of 3,000 on the average gate last year. I should imagine that this year his job will be even harder, the trustees can turn round and say "We gave you x million last season. What's your case for this season - you're losing paying customers, income and turnover are down and the league finish was down. Why should we pour in more money?" And indeed, why should they ?
  19. I've got another picture of her, getting changed in a Dublin phone box cos she'd put her top on inside out. Publishable on receipt of bribery
  20. Been on the sherbets by any chance? We'll wait and see who's wrong then. Actually no. And you didn't find any quotes.
  21. Sounds as though the club are hoping there will be official contact soon. Every time Souness is quoted regarding the strikers he praises Dickov to the heavens and pointedly avoids making any reference to Cole. I'm afraid I can only see one outcome. Show us the quotes. Oh you can't - it's another bee in the Revidge bonnet. There was the one LET article the day we signed Dickov and suddenly you've turned it into a vendetta by the entire management structure at Rovers against Andy Cole. Which would be completely understandable given the Lazy One's pick-and-choose attitude as to when he wants to perform rather than moan at his colleagues or test the hips with his hands, or jet off to Dubai on the back of a stupid red card, but it's not happening so don't invent things to suit your increasingly ridiculous agenda.
  22. Why do you read the tabloids ?
  23. Got a stag weekend in Nottingham that w/e ... ... but consulting the Ryanair website, 10pm on Saturday night from Nottingham East Midlands to Dublin is £3.99, and the coming back on Monday lunchtime is £3.99 ... 28 quid return all in with tax ... ... oh dear it would be rude not to ... I'll have been on the stag do Fri night and most of Saturday ... ... it'll be ok to leave on Sat, won't it ??
  24. Flippin eck Bob !!! Do you have Saturday's lottery numbers ??! From the LET today ...
  25. Absolute classic. You having chips and gravy with yours ??
